Romney/Ryan haul: $3.5 million in 24 hours
posted at 12:31 pm on August 12, 2012 by Ed Morrissey
How did America react to Mitt Romney’s selection of Paul Ryan as his running mate? According to the one measure that literally counts … pretty spectacularly. The online fundraising for the 24-hour period following Ryan’s addition to the ticket came to $3.5 million, according to the Twitter feed of campaign spokesperson Andrea Saul:
$3.5 million raised online in 24 hrs of @mittromney‘s pick of @paulryanvp #RomneyRyan2012
— Andrea Saul (@andreamsaul) August 12, 2012
Bear in mind that this is online only. That’s roughly equivalent to the pace one would see from a month in which the combined Romney/RNC effort raised $105 million, with big-ticket fundraisers included. It’s not quite as dramatic as the amount of money pulled in after the Supreme Court’s decision on ObamaCare ($4.6 million), but it’s close.
I contacted a source close to the campaign, and got the details:
- Donors: over 41,000
- Average donation: $85
- Website visits: 700,000
The campaign saw an interesting phenomenon after the Ryan announcement. Over 30% of the visits came from mobile devices, something the source tells me the campaign has never seen before in this cycle. It shows that the selection of Ryan may have some significant upside among younger voters who may relate more to Ryan than to Obama, Joe Biden, and the administration that has cratered job prospects for this demographic over the last three years.
The campaign has a new web video out today featuring the newest team member and his introductory speech:
Looks like the subtext of this campaign will be: Real Hope from Real Change. If the fundraising numbers give any indication, it looks as though America’s ready to reward seriousness.

Perhaps some will recall that many of us commented on the astonishing hubris of this administration and of the progressives in congress. I believe the signs of clear aggression and the employment of intimidation tactics is a direct result of a combination of that extreme hubris and open disdain for the rule of law and any who dared disagree with the policies of this administration.

The GOP not only still cares about jobs and deficits, it cares about the immigration bill still making its way through congress…and some of our congress members are working to see that the rule of law is not eroded any further.
The scandalous events of the last few days are not the distraction from all else that some seem to believe them to be. What people choose to comment about on these forums has little to do with the continuing work in congress.

thatsafactjack on May 14, 2013 at 2:14 PM
By the way, I predicted this defense was coming, just yesterday. Said that so many scandals appearing at once could actually be a problem for the GOP, as the left would paint them as merely scrambling to find something to pin on the White House. And I said the left would then blame the economy on GOP focusing on these “unimportant things”.
Of course, our economy wouldn’t suck right now if the left hadn’t wasted the first two years of Obama’s first term in trying to get Obamacare passed, and had instead of passing a jobs-killing-budget-destroying-nightmare, actually spent some time themselves on jobs and the economy.
Chris of Rights on May 14, 2013 at 2:14 PM

As Obama loves to say, “Let’s be clear” – SEBELIUS BROKE THE LAW!
…actually, she broke SEVERAL laws. There is a law that states the Federal Government can NOT spend money it does not collect in Tax Revenue – Sebelius collected money from ‘donors’ & ‘officially’ spent that money. As mentioned, by doing this Sebilius BROKE THE LAW. Also, it can be argued that she used her position of power to ‘extort’ money from these ‘donors’!
Politicians and government employees at almost all levels of the federal government – all the way to the President of the United States – have gone completely OUT OF CONTROL!
Fast & Furious, Benghazi, IRS, Sebelius, AP Wire Tapping…this President & his administration has led the charge in the on-slaught against the Constitution & the Rule Of Law, replacing them with ‘the Chicago Way’ & ‘Whatever it takes to push my agenda’! Obama is now under seige by a growingly P.O.ed & ‘newly awakened’ media over 3..4..new scandals. President Obama has grown & nurtured this corrupt culture of politics, especially through his refusal to hold anyone accountable at any time for anything.
More than alost anything right now Sebelius needs to be CHARGED WITH CRIMES, the very crimes she HAS violated, and she NEEDS – for this nation’s sake – to GO TO JAIL! Sending a sitting member of Cogress to JAIL for a CRIME would put the brakes on in politics in Washington. It would send a desperately needed signal to our politicians that YOU ARE NOT ABOVE THE LAW and a message to Americans losing faith in their government more and more by the day that the Constitution & Rule of Law in this country DOES STILL MATTER! For the survival of this nation, in order to change the course of massive moral, ethical, & integrity decline in this nation, Sebelius MUST GO TO JAIL for breaking the law….
And then she should only be the 1st!
The illusion of ‘checks & balances’ in our government has been shattered – the nation needs an agency with the power to ‘police’ our Washington leaders/politicians that exists & consists outside of Washington! ‘Policing themselves’ is nothing more than the ‘inmates in charge of the prison’. We need an independent, bi-partisan agency that will not be swayed by party, will not be able to be intimidated, & who have the authority & power to step in & enforce the laws!

The fact is that many parents who did attend Ivy League schools are appalled at the decline in those schools and have determined to help their offspring choose better schools. Further, the UC system, still ranked among the top 10 in the world, and several other ‘state’ school systems, stack up very well academically with ANY Ivy League school. The prestige associated with attending one of the Ivy League schools deteriorated as their curriculum declined and wandered off into the boutique degrees, rather than sticking to core degrees and course requirements. Seems radicalism and Marxist theory don’t get a grad very far in the real world.
