Breitbart.com: Huntsman to speak at Democratic convention?

posted at 7:30 pm on August 10, 2012 by Allahpundit

Huntsman’s daughter has already issued a firm denial but Mike Flynn says he has very credible sources telling him it’s happening. And let’s face it: If it’s not happening, it probably should. It feels right, doesn’t it? Imagine him at the podium, blasting away at the “backwardness” of conservatives, a teary John Weaver watching rapt from the crowd, fist pumping in the air after every broadside aimed at the “yahoos.”

We already know Democrats are eager to have “sensible” Republicans at the convention. C’mon, Ax. Make it happen.

I have to admit, the Huntsman candidacy for President never made much sense to me. When it began I thought: wait, this guy served in the Obama Administration and now wants to run against him? And I didn’t really get any further than that. Maybe, though, it was simply Himalayan-sized political ambition. According to very credible sources, Huntsman has accepted a speaking slot at the Democrat convention in Charlotte next month.

So, first the guy stabs the GOP in the back to work for Obama. Then, he stabs Obama in the back to run against him. And now Huntsman’s political circle-of-life is complete; once again, apparently, stabbing the GOP in the back to campaign for Obama…

If the information is accurate, it does provide a telling context for Jon Huntsman Sr.’s out-of-the-blue attack today on Mitt Romney’s taxes and rumors that he is the “source” for Harry Reid’s wild allegation over those taxes.

Here’s the out-of-the-blue attack that Flynn mentions. Huntsman Sr denies being the source of Reid’s tax evasion smear but does call on Romney, in surprisingly strong terms, to start disclosing his tax returns. Hmmmm. Even so, I can think of two reasons why Junior wouldn’t show up at the Democratic convention to carry water for The One. First, he’s already endorsed Romney (tepidly, but still) and had plenty of criticism for Obama on the trail in New Hampshire. Even if he’s willing to repudiate that now, the RNC would have such fun during the Dems’ convention running soundbites of Huntsman praising Romney and dumping on O that it’s probably not worth it for Axelrod to have him speak even if he’s willing.

Second, what does Huntsman gain by speaking at the Democratic convention? He’s not going to be appointed to any new positions by Obama after campaigning against him this past year. If he’s looking to return to a position of power, he’s better off swallowing his pride and making nice with Romney and the GOP. Don’t forget either that he comes from one of the reddest states in America. When (if?) Hatch finally retires in six years, he’ll be well positioned via his name recognition and financial advantage to succeed him. Even if he doesn’t end up running as a Republican in order to avoid a tea-party challenge in the primary, I would think that he’s better off not stabbing the state’s ruling party in the back by appearing at the convention on behalf of a president who’s going to lose 65 percent of the state vote. In fact, the only reason for him to do this that makes sense to me is that he’s already planning an independent run for president in 2016 and is eager to show a national audience his willingness to cross the aisle and work with the other team. But he can’t possibly be planning another run for president. Can he?

At least he’s finally being honest about who and what he really is…I wish more on the left would come out of the closet and just admit they are Marxist loving Communists, instead of pretending they love America.

Strike Hornet on August 10, 2012 at 7:39 PM

And let’s face it: If it’s not happening, it probably should. It feels right, doesn’t it?

Yeah, it does and it comes as no real surprise.

So, first the guy stabs the GOP in the back to work for Obama. Then, he stabs Obama in the back to run against him. And now Huntsman’s political circle-of-life is complete; once again, apparently, stabbing the GOP in the back to campaign for Obama…

This assumes his run for the presidency wasn’t also part of his service to the Democrats.

Second, what does Huntsman gain by speaking at the Democratic convention?

What did he stand to gain from his presidential candidacy? It makes more sense that he was there to drain votes from Romney than anything else.

Huntsman speaking at the DNC sounds absolutely appropriate to me.

What is inappropriate is his insistence that he’s a Republican and his continued membership in the GOP.

He should just get it over with and register as a Democrat. He’s of no value to the GOP and hasn’t been for some time.

thatsafactjack on August 10, 2012 at 7:42 PM

IF this is true, he is scum. He may be able to run as a Dem for Senator from Utah, but the Democratic Party elsewhere is going to have no use for someone who isn’t a true leftist. Besides, who could trust him?

This guy was never ever serious about winning the GOP nomination. It is all about personal ambition for him. Maybe he thinks he has a shot at the 2016 DNC nomination. Which is funny because his dad is very close to Glenn Beck for some reason. I don’t understand the family dynamics here.

Never trust a guy named Putzman who speaks Chinese. I always took that as axiomatic from the first time I heard it as a child at my sainted mother’s knee.

Mason on August 10, 2012 at 7:51 PM

The only possibility, is the obvious ones; each father is trying to leverage the future for their kid(s).

Sr knows Jr is cooked with the Repub base, and it’s partly his fault by backing Beck. Romney and Huntsman used to get along, but it appears they’ve had a falling out, so Sr is trying to apply pressure to Romney to save Jr’s future.

As for Jr, his girls are cute but as annoying, spoiled and near-talentless as the Kardashians. The main one, Abby, is the social climber PITA of the three. She’s dying to be famous, but you have to be single and dating first if you want to be a young celeb. You can’t live this conservative lifestyle/liberal social policy advocate and not be seen as untrustworthy by each side.

So Jr takes come-hithers from the Dems, as Abby’s BS media grin blinds viewers of ProgTV, and somehow, someway, they expect to find a support system.

Go ask Frum how big that Island is.

Ahnuld won’t now that his political career is over, and O is on the downside. He’d never hitch himself to someone so toxic.

Thing about Ahnuld, is Maria and RFK Jr were the ones who coaxed him left after the ballot failure. They convinced him he wasn’t moderate enough. When his governorship went up in smoke, he blamed them. The kid-affair was her excuse to end it, but they were done with or without it.

Plus, he wouldn’t show now that Eastwood has back Romney. Clint is his second father.

MustLoveBlogs on August 10, 2012 at 8:02 PM

IF this is true, the tack the Democrats mean to pursue is obvious.

“OH! The modern GOP is SO EXTREME! They’re obstructionists and all they care about is ‘taking the country back to the 1950′s’, the conservative movement has hijacked the Republican party… or.. alternately… the TEA Party has hijacked the Republican party.” After all, that’s what Team Obama and Obama himself have been saying for weeks. Its what Huntsman said during his laughably dismal run for the nomination.

We all know that ‘right wing extremist’ just falls readily tripping from the tongues of progressives. Its an image the Democrats will be trying to cultivate in the coming weeks.

Despite that… and Hunstman… I think they’re in for a shock. I have the feeling this election is going to be much more about “The Silent Majority”. Its Democrats worst nightmare… and completely in the nature of this center-right nation.

Huntsman’s daughter has already issued a firm denial

Abby Huntsman teases party switch

Could Abby Huntsman, daughter of onetime Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman, be joining the other side?

On Current TV Tuesday, Huntsman fielded an invitation from “The War Room” host Jennifer Granholm “to join the Democratic Party.”

“I will join you there,” Huntsman replied. “I will join you.”

(In an email to the Daily Caller, Huntsman said it was simply “banter,” but admitted that she feels “without a home this election cycle.”)

Huntsman revealed how her father was treated by the GOP for his centrist campaign, telling a story about how “he was supposed to speak at a fundraiser in Florida and the RNC contacted him and said, because you were speaking out for the need for a third voice, you’re no longer invited to represent us at the fundraiser. So he’s actually been disinvited to a lot of events.”

If Huntsman were to ditch the Republican Party, it wouldn’t exactly be a surprise. She called the Republican Party “one of non-inclusion,” said the presumptive nominee Mitt Romney “will say whatever we want to hear” and is slated to join the progressive website The Huffington Post for its upcoming online video venture.

Flora Duh on August 10, 2012 at 8:07 PM

The university is also in discussions with Schwarzenegger to house his personal collection at the institute. His official papers as governor are stored with the State Archive.
