Breitbart.com: Huntsman to speak at Democratic convention?

posted at 7:30 pm on August 10, 2012 by Allahpundit

Huntsman’s daughter has already issued a firm denial but Mike Flynn says he has very credible sources telling him it’s happening. And let’s face it: If it’s not happening, it probably should. It feels right, doesn’t it? Imagine him at the podium, blasting away at the “backwardness” of conservatives, a teary John Weaver watching rapt from the crowd, fist pumping in the air after every broadside aimed at the “yahoos.”

We already know Democrats are eager to have “sensible” Republicans at the convention. C’mon, Ax. Make it happen.

I have to admit, the Huntsman candidacy for President never made much sense to me. When it began I thought: wait, this guy served in the Obama Administration and now wants to run against him? And I didn’t really get any further than that. Maybe, though, it was simply Himalayan-sized political ambition. According to very credible sources, Huntsman has accepted a speaking slot at the Democrat convention in Charlotte next month.

So, first the guy stabs the GOP in the back to work for Obama. Then, he stabs Obama in the back to run against him. And now Huntsman’s political circle-of-life is complete; once again, apparently, stabbing the GOP in the back to campaign for Obama…

If the information is accurate, it does provide a telling context for Jon Huntsman Sr.’s out-of-the-blue attack today on Mitt Romney’s taxes and rumors that he is the “source” for Harry Reid’s wild allegation over those taxes.

Here’s the out-of-the-blue attack that Flynn mentions. Huntsman Sr denies being the source of Reid’s tax evasion smear but does call on Romney, in surprisingly strong terms, to start disclosing his tax returns. Hmmmm. Even so, I can think of two reasons why Junior wouldn’t show up at the Democratic convention to carry water for The One. First, he’s already endorsed Romney (tepidly, but still) and had plenty of criticism for Obama on the trail in New Hampshire. Even if he’s willing to repudiate that now, the RNC would have such fun during the Dems’ convention running soundbites of Huntsman praising Romney and dumping on O that it’s probably not worth it for Axelrod to have him speak even if he’s willing.

Second, what does Huntsman gain by speaking at the Democratic convention? He’s not going to be appointed to any new positions by Obama after campaigning against him this past year. If he’s looking to return to a position of power, he’s better off swallowing his pride and making nice with Romney and the GOP. Don’t forget either that he comes from one of the reddest states in America. When (if?) Hatch finally retires in six years, he’ll be well positioned via his name recognition and financial advantage to succeed him. Even if he doesn’t end up running as a Republican in order to avoid a tea-party challenge in the primary, I would think that he’s better off not stabbing the state’s ruling party in the back by appearing at the convention on behalf of a president who’s going to lose 65 percent of the state vote. In fact, the only reason for him to do this that makes sense to me is that he’s already planning an independent run for president in 2016 and is eager to show a national audience his willingness to cross the aisle and work with the other team. But he can’t possibly be planning another run for president. Can he?

Dude. Huntsman ran to the right of Romney in the primary. What’s he going to argue? That Obama is more conservative than Romney? Romney’s no conservative, ’tis true, but that’s a bridge too far.

Howard Huntsman, owns a chain of motels, built a big plane out of plywood many years ago.

slickwillie2001 on August 10, 2012 at 8:22 PM

Silly. That’s Tom Bodet.

Howard Huntsman played Johnny Fever on WKRP In Cincinnatti.

If true – so not surprised.

Huntsman is, what is known in the Mormon community, a dark cloud from the West. He is a pompous git that only excels in circles where there is no threat he can get beat up. Like chili potlucks and the Obama administration.

nitzsche on August 10, 2012 at 8:37 PM

i’ll be interested to see how glenn beck responds on monday when he returns from vacation. he has praised huntsman, sr. more than anyone living… even comparing his character to george washington (say what you want about beck and his antics, that’s the highest praise you can get from him).

here’s what i’m hoping… mitt romney made so much money during his time at bain that he was able to give more to charity than he earned on his investments since he left. meaning he didn’t have any tax liabilities. the romney camp has known this since the beginning and is milking it for all it’s worth.

huntsman, sr. has given more than a billion dollars to charity in the past decade and if romney has followed his lead, maybe huntsman wants to show how generous mormons really are. the beck, huntsman, romney mormon coalition join forces to bring down obama. yes, this is all wishful thinking… but a guy can still dream, can’t he?

Second, what does Huntsman gain by speaking at the Democratic convention?

What did he stand to gain from his presidential candidacy? It makes more sense that he was there to drain votes from Romney than anything else.

sharrukin on August 10, 2012 at 7:40 PM

Yes indeed.

He worked for Obama once. He is very liberal. Why would it really surprise any one if he did this? His political career looks bad in Utah. Utah is embracing the Tea Party quite a bit which makes any attempt at office there difficult for him. He got no where running for President. This could up his marketability on the TV circuit. Plus it is possible that Obama might have something for him in China which he loves more than America.

Nothing shocks me anymore. Kung Pao can join Arlen Specter in the Hall of Shame. They care only for themselves, so no surprise.

Philly on August 10, 2012 at 8:41 PM

Come on – we knew it all along – the entire ‘HUNTSMAN 2012′ campaign was an obama machination – Huntsman was obama’s hand-chosen GOP ringer. Huntsman was never a real candidate and this is why he never tried to distance from his time as an obama employee, or substantively distinguish himself from obama on any issue. Once an obama operative, ALWAYS an obama operative (obama actually thought that he could hand Huntsman the GOP nomination). This comes as no surprise.

Who is huntsman again?

Conservative4ev on August 10, 2012 at 8:47 PM

Once Huntsman called Obama a “remarkable leader” he was doomed as a Republican. He and Colin Powell need to come out of the closet and switch parties so they can freely kiss Obama’s butt.

If Huntsman speaks at the Dem convention then he is just as disgusting as Charlie Crist. That’s pretty disgusting.

That did not doom Romney.

Romneys Spokesman said.

Obama is doing a great job. I do not want to talk about him.

This did no harm to Romney. In fact it got no traction in any of the press what so ever. 2:00 AM on a Wednesday morning. The local Hawaiian Press covered it but that was it. When Mitt won the Hawaiian Primary.

Smoooches to the white haired one.

Some reports spoke of a “Republican woman” for the Dem show. One of the Maine Hag Sisters? (probably Snowe? Or Coleen Powell?)

Huntsman to speak at Democratic convention?

Well, if so, he deserves Time Magazine’s Politician of the Year, with full oak cluster.

Give Artur Davis a platform at the Republican National Convention. That would counter him and give Romney a little boost in the black vote.

djaymick on August 10, 2012 at 10:05 PM

Little Jonny Huntsman Jr. is a scumbag — and has always been a scumbag — whether he speaks at the DNC or not. His entire family are poser scumbags. They’ve all always been Democrats despite their claims otherwise. That isn’t already apparent to just about everyone in the entire country? Huh.

So, he might as well go there and speak. Then he and his attention whore(s) of a daughter(s) can hold hands and lead the entire 2/3 empty Bank of America stadium in a chorus of ‘We Are Fam-ily’ after they both officially announce their transition to the Defeatocrats.

Big whoop.

In Arizona they call Mormons like Huntsman and Reid, “Jack Mormons” similar to Mo Udall in the eighties. Born Mormon but a little sketchy about Mormon beliefs.

Funny haven’t seen little jon much but even as we speak he’s just been on the local news talking about global warming! So maybe that’s what he is going to bring to the dem convention. He looked like he’s spent all his time on a tanning bed. Same arrogant look! Oh yes, just like 0b0z0.

You’re getting sad and pathetic, Steve. I copy and pasted that quote into google and it came up with one single search result. It was your comment in this thread.

In May 2009, President Barack Obama nominated Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. to be the United States Ambassador to China.

That Huntsman may speak for the Dim’s…….no surprise here.

RealMc on August 11, 2012 at 9:15 AM

This man is such a sore loser, which is sad because he was one of the few fiscal conservatives running on the Republican side, openly supporting the Ryan plan when the other candidates were too afraid to support the plan of somebody who they feared would enter the race for President and become their rival.

Does Jon Huntsman really think that the Democrats sren’t going to use him up and then never mention him again once they’ve gotten some use out of him. He’s burning bridges, and the Democrats will make use of it for short-term gain.

mintycrys on August 11, 2012 at 9:27 AM

That crossing the aisle plan only worked for McLame just not well enough. Jon seems to be one of those metro sexuals who can’t find a real position to stand on. Hope he does go to speak for the Won. He’ll look like one loser introducing the next loser. Just like the old C&W song says, rich boys think they got what it takes.

Kissmygrits on August 11, 2012 at 10:21 AM

As I said all along Huntsman was nothing more then an Obama plant in the Republican party. This just proves me right. What Republican would call this socialist a great President. I think both he and McCain should actually go under their true party banner Democrat.

pwb on August 11, 2012 at 10:35 AM

Typical RINO, Huntsman didn’t stab anybody in the back except the idiots that believe Rino’s are Republicans.

Huntsman is already a laughing stock. He makes Romney look like a straight arrow. Why not, after all politics and politicians are all about individual egos and the desire for power. Obviously Huntsman has an ego, and desires power . . . so take what ever route necessary to acheive the goal and feed the ego. This is what has gotten this country into the situation we are in.
