The Romney campaign has really taken “lying” to a “new level,” or something

posted at 12:01 pm on August 9, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

On MSNBC last night, Ed Schultz and E.J. Dionne argued that the Romney campaign’s argument against President Obama’s welfare adjustments plays into “old racial politics about poverty” and relies upon a level of blatant deception hitherto unknown in presidential campaigns. And, before you ask, why yes — this is coming just after Team Obama basically insinuated that Mitt Romney’s factory closures are at fault for workers’ and their families’ premature deaths.

“And finally, have we every seen a campaign lie this much?”

“You know, I was thinking about that, Ed, and I’ve covered a lot of campaigns and a lot of pretty vicious campaigns. But it does seem, I mean the way Romney kind of takes Obama’s statements and clips out the heart of them and strings together sentences…”

“They’ve taken it to a new level?”

“Yeah, I think this, I think really, this is a new level, and I’m not given to saying stuff like that.”

Uh huh. Speaking of taking liberties with your opponents reform plans, what was it the Obama campaign was saying about Mitt Romney’s tax proposals the other day? From the WSJ:

The charge is that even though Mr. Romney is proposing to cut tax rates for everybody across the board, Mr. Romney will finance this by imposing a tax increase on the middle class. His evidence is a single study by the Tax Policy Center, a liberal think tank that has long opposed cutting income tax rates.

The political left always says Daddy Warbucks gets all the tax-cut money. So this is hardly news, except that the media are treating this joint Brookings Institution and Urban Institute analysis as if it’s nonpartisan gospel. In fact, it’s a highly ideological tract based on false assumptions, incomplete data and dishonest analysis. In other words, it is custom made for the Obama campaign. …

So on four separate occasions what TPC says is “mathematically impossible”—cutting tax rates and making the tax system more progressive—actually happened. Hats off to the scholars at TPC: Their study manages to claim that what happens in real life can’t happen in theory.

The TPC analysis also fails to acknowledge how highly dependent the current tax system is on the very rich. As the Tax Foundation explains in a recent report based on CBO data: “The top 20 percent of households pay 94 percent of federal income taxes. The bottom 40 percent have a negative income tax rate, and the middle quintile pays close to zero.”

This reality is treated as a state secret in Washington because it refutes Mr. Obama’s campaign theme that the rich are undertaxed. The same crowd that has been howling that the rich don’t pay their fair share of taxes now touts a study concluding that cutting taxes will only benefit the rich. Well, which is it?

A whole “new level” of lying, indeed.

Someone help me out here, please.

I have completely missed the counterargument to the liberals’ claim that Republican objections to welfare waivers are ridiculous. Schultz and Dionne (and others) have argued that the waivers are only intended to give states some flexibility in implementing work programs and that Republican governors, including Romney, have requested such waivers. Their argument sounds convincing, but considering the source…

Can someone please counter that argument, or link me to a good counterargument?

Degenerate perverts like verbaluce are very, VERY unhappy people.

They see everyone else earning money, providing a decent life for their families, and having things that they don’t, and it drives them absolutely insane with jealousy.

Their answer? Those people must have their wealth taken from them and given to us because they don’t deserve it.

That’s the Obama Party’s entire mantra. That’s the Obama Party’s entire existence — playing on the envy, jealousy, and hate of people like verbaluce who refuse to take responsibility for their own circumstances and choices and want to live at other peoples’ expense.

And that is the way the worthless Obama is. Obama is the ultimate welfare queen, born from two welfare cases, abandoned by two welfare cases to others, pampered, spoiled, cosseted, and raised in a liberal bubble in which no decision or action ever had consequence because of his skin color.

Obama (after his rally with that Flucked gal with her phony tears, poor undersexed victim, that she is) might as well just really show his compassion for women BY HANDING OUT FREE BIRTH CONTROL PILLS at his rallies!!!

…Or maybe Obama could put bowls of Condoms out with the ring outlined as a big “O”.

Here’s what the package could look like “O” and a big “12″ next to it on the package. Think of the women he could help? Think of the women he would save from being “punished” with a baby.

Then maybe they could send some to the ____________ Dionne and Edster Schultzin _____________.

You’re absolutely right.

But degenerate perverts like verbaluce and the rest of the Obama crowd skipped baking, consumer economics, math, and other life skills classes so they could go choom with weed and in a van they bought using their indulgent guardians’ money.

Their idea of working is having to throw a tantrum to get someone else’s money. And they are used to screaming “I hate you!” or “You’re so mean and unfair!” and reducing their guardians to quivering blobs of money-spewing Jello.

When one deals with Obamabots, one should realize that they view decent people as saps, the hard-working as fools, and those with morals as easy marks.

northdallasthirty on August 9, 2012 at 1:49 PM

Exactly right.

There are three economic classes in the democrat party:

1. The Parasites class: They can only survive by living at the Producers expense. This class makes up approximately 40% of the democrat party.

2. The Semi-Parasite Envy class: That is where people like “verbaluce” belong. As you said above they are jealous of other people making more money than them so they get all angry and demand higher taxes on the producers. This class although not 100% depending on the tax payers money for survival they still receive substantial amount of money from the tax payers through a lot of social programs and in fact they pay little to no taxes. This class makes up approximately 55% of the democrat party.

3. The liberal elite class: Made up of limousine liberals, liberal politicians, media, and people in the academia (mostly in meaningless arts and humanities majors). This class is the ruling class of the democrat party and it is the class that agitates the two lower classes against the producers through class warfare for the only purpose that the two lower classes vote for them and in return they give them welfare checks and other tax payers funded programs. This class is known with their utter hypocrisy on every level as they do not do at all what they preach in particular when it comes to economic issues. This class makes up approximately 5% of the democrat party.

Thanks, that’s a good start. Obama supporters clearly overstated their argument in this regard. As I look for strong counterarguments, though, what I find are mostly differing opinions, such as this one:

Peter Suderman|Aug. 8, 2012 3:36 pm
Is the Obama administration “gutting” welfare reform by getting rid of its work requirements, as the Romney campaign claims in a recent ad? Not quite — or at least not yet. But the administration is asserting legally dubious authority to waive work requirements that have been crucial to the success of the reformed welfare system.
http://reason.com/blog/2012/08/08/do-new-hhs-work-requirement-waivers-gut

I do think “legally dubious” is an understatement, and Obama is clearly making an end run around Congress and around the Constitution. But I have yet to find a silver bullet to shoot down the argument that the waivers do not gut welfare.

First, when has Barack Obama EVER supported anything that made a welfare program less accessible to its target community? Our “community organizer in chief” has always agitated for more programs, expanded programs, more money …. he is the Food Stamp President, after all.

Second, if the effect of Obama’s action was to increase the work requirement & thereby make benefits less accessible, all the usual suspects would be screaming bloody murder at the heartlessness of it all.

Third, if Obama actually wanted to increase the work requirement, does anyone really believe he wouldn’t be able to get Republicans to sign on? Such legislation fits the Republican narrative AND would reduce government spending – he’d have no problem getting a bill which accomplished that result through the House of Representatives.
