Bill Burton: You’re darned right that I stand by that sleazy Super PAC ad

posted at 9:25 pm on August 8, 2012 by Allahpundit

Via Greg Hengler. I know the clip’s long but (a) the first 3:45 is just background stuff, so feel free to skip it, and (b) the rest of it represents quite possibly the most sustained bout of skepticism on cable TV towards an Obama mouthpiece that Team Hopenchange has had to endure in four years. If you can’t watch it all, just watch Burton for two or three minutes starting at 4:15. Like I said yesterday, the amazing thing about this ad isn’t that it’s so sleazy; we may yet see sleazier before November. The amazing thing is that the spot is completely devoid of any actual point or argument. The closest it comes is suggesting that layoffs are always unconscionable because people depend on the insurance they get from their jobs. But Burton can’t argue that; Obama has enough problems with business that he can’t afford to flirt with “only monsters lay people off” demagoguery. So he’s left here arguing … nothing. Really. Watch him and see if you can find a discernible point beyond the slackjawed obviousness that bad things can happen to people when they’re out of work. Thanks to the disapproving stares he gets from Blitzer and company, he ends up bending over backward to say that they’re not blaming Romney for the death of Soptic’s wife — which is sort of like Romney running an ad about unemployment and then saying Obama bears no responsibility for the economy. If the other guy’s not to blame, why does the ad exist in the first place?

Look out for Wolf’s lecture at 12:25. Remember when this was going to be a campaign about competing visions for America?

The American Cancer Society is condemning this ad as shameful and condemns Obama for being heartless.

This ad is meant to offset any future ads done by Romney or pro Romney superPACs linking the Obama administration with Fast & Furious and the death of Brian Terry. The media will say “Hey Romney is accusing Obama of being responsible for someone’s death just like the ad that accused Romney of being responsible for the death of a steel worker’s wife. Of course there is a real connection with the Obama administration and the death of Brian Terry, but that wont’ stop the media from making a false equivalency.

Urban Dictionary entries for Harry Reid:

1. “Harry Reid”

A sexual position where you climb on top and then do absolutely nothing.

Named for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV). Under his lack of leadership, the Senate failed to pass a budget in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. He also blocked votes on numerous jobs bills passed by the House of Representatives.

“I spent so long trying to talk her into bed that when I finally got on, I pulled a ‘Harry Reid’ and fell asleep.”

3. “Harry Reid”

An unofficial rap sheet of alleged pederasty and sexual abuse of minors by anonymous sources that may not exist.

Named for Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) after an explosion of reports surfaced online and on the airwaves, that the Senator is a serial pederast. The outlets reporting the allegations all protected the anonymity of their sources, and no one knows if the allegations are true, but they’re out there. A spokesperson for Reid declined to deny them.

“Jerry’s not someone we want to hire. He’s got a Harry Reid a mile long. The allegations are out there, so the burden of proof is on him to refute them.”

“Becky, I think you should stop seeing Connor. He’s never going to get a clean slate with that Harry Reid of his no matter what the DNA tests say about the santorum found in the victim’s underwear.”

“HR sent us the Harry Reid on Tom. I don’t see any proof, but where there’s pederasty smoke, there’s usually pederasty fire.”

This ad in no way blames Mitt Romney for this man’s wife’s death. It is simply a sad story in an ad that addresses Mitt Romney’s business experience. Some people might suggest that an ad that doesn’t address Romney’s experience at all, but just addresses our convoluted blame game for this woman’s death to Bain Capital, which Mitt Romney was the CEO of…but they’re just obviously lying.

Mitt Romney strangled this woman with her bare hands. Did I say that? No, I didn’t. You thought I did. I’m laughing at how mistaken you are.

Uppereastside on August 8, 2012 at 10:06 PM

If you respected your mother’s “right to choose” as being killing her baby, then you wouldn’t be alive right now.

It always amuses me that the ppl screaming “right to choose” are the ones who profit from and are helped by abortion — namely lazy white liberal males who don’t want to wear a condom and want to dump off the responsibility of promiscuity onto the woman.

Barack Obama killed my puppy!

When I lived in N.Y. back in 1983 I was was walking my puppy, Wilbur, up the 109th Street when suddenly Barry Soetoro jumped out of the bushes and snatched poor Wilbur. I started to run after him, but Barry was too fast.

I knew it was Barry because he was the kid always doing coke on the street corner as I was walking my dog each evening. The next time I saw Barry I yelled at him, “Where the hell is my dog?@@@@!!!!”

Barry yelled back, “It was delicious, and you don’t own that dog!” I never saw Wilbur again.

Obama has enough problems with business that he can’t afford to flirt with “only monsters lay people off” demagoguery.

It was certainly already implied though, no? Any business owner who has been in the unfortunate position of having to fire or reduce their workforce was (by extension through this attack on Mitt) also being accused of being responsible for the loss of any health insurance and any potential negative consequence of that.

Business owners are being kicked in the a$$ again…not as overtly as “you didn’t build that”….but I don’t think it went unnoticed either.

UES and his ilk live in the world of the abstract, a faculty lounge, if you will, where Reality is but a concept, something to be discussed and disguised and dissed, as they clink their little girly cocktail glasses together. Thus enmeshed, any attempt to reason or argue with them is futile at best, at worst playing into the Big Silly, their natural habitat.

I ran into this segment while channel surfing during Olmpic commercials. Could not help but rubberneck at the train wreck this Burton fellow was having.
Blitzer and the Blondes simply would not let him off the hook. The ladies, in particular, were brutal. Both facial expressions and body language said NFW are you being honest, you sleazy a$$.
Best part was Burton saying CNN was misinterpreting the ad’s message. The ladies do not take kindly to that.

It is rare to see liberals getting the eye roll on CNN. And credit where credit is due, they didn’t let him get away with describing that hit piece as a completely different ad than what was actually aired.

Burton’s description would have been a perfectly legitimate (if negative) ad about the effect of closed plants on individuals and communities with an attempt to tie it all on free-market capitalism. What we got was a disgruntled union member who describes nearly a decade of activity as if it were less than six months. Romney and Bain take controlling interest in the mill (1993) and start working to shut it down (which somehow took until 2002) and a little while later (four years) his wife died of cancer because of Mitt Romney.

Nevermind that Romney had moved on from an operational role in Bain in 1999. Nevermind that by the time Soptic’s wife died Romney had done the Olympics organizing and was nearing the end of his time as Governor. Nevermind the woman was NEVER on Bain-provided health insurance. For some reason since this guy lost his health insurance four years before this woman had health problems, Mitt Romney is a killer. It is the height of irresponsibility and I suspect that the furor will result in the White House saying something today after two days of claiming they have not even seen the propaganda.

Among the many, many, many stupid things you have said, this ranks right up there.

So stupid.

Yes, abortion is the most important thing in the world. Doesn’t it bother you that the #1 thing to your world view is killing fetuses? That is the centerpiece of leftist ideology? That you consider the ability to kill a fetus at whim one of the most sacred things humans can aspire to?

You are truly demented.
