CNN: Wife of steelworker in new Obama Super PAC ad still had job and health insurance after he lost his

posted at 9:20 pm on August 7, 2012 by Allahpundit

I wonder if Bill Burton and crew knew about this and greenlit the smear anyway or if they didn’t care enough to even find out. Why would they? The point of calling Romney a murderer is to keep him on the defensive; the more ridiculous the charge is, the more media/online oxygen it sucks up and the less air there is for Mitt’s own attacks on O to breathe. They tried a straightforward offensive against Romney’s complex private equity record a few months ago but the results were inconclusive. Now they’re trying again with a bolder, simpler narrative: Romney’s layoffs literally killed people. If you’re a low-information voter who pays attention to this stuff in bits and pieces, a story you’re half-listening to about a rich guy and a steelworker and a plant closing and a young wife tragically dying from cancer sounds really bad, even if it’s a gross smear. In fact, the grosser the smear, the more compelling the half-listened-to story seems. Right, Harry?

Question: Knowing what we know now about the timeline of all this, what’s left of the accusation in the original smear ad? What is it, precisely, that Bain is being faulted for doing or not doing? They shouldn’t have closed down the plant because … it was unfair to expect the workers who were laid off to ever find new jobs with insurance? It was negligent not to predict that some workers’ wives might get laid off too and wouldn’t find a new job for years before they became ill? There appears to be no actual policy or business critique here. It’s just a string of events spread over five whole years, with certain key data omitted, and you’re supposed to infer causation without really being told why or how. This is what the Unicorn Prince has come to after promising four years ago to heal America or whatever. Perfect.

Well in MO, looks like Akin is going to win. Not familiar with the Counties & reporting of such.

U.S. Senate – GOP Primary

Name Party Votes Vote %
Akin, Todd GOP 168,406 36%
Brunner, John GOP 138,773 30%
Steelman, Sarah GOP 135,647 29%

I won’t give that, not even by a hair.

Liberals and some other Christians will debate me on this but, if a person wants to remain in darkness, then leave him to it. If such have been offered the Word, and reject it, then let them die in ignorance if they so choose, one of their own making.

Uppereastside on August 7, 2012 at 11:02 PM

Hey, CNN invented “we distort you’re deceived”.

1. Falsely accused the US of nerve gassing civilians in Laos

2. Failed to report Saddam Hussein’s human rights abuses against his own people in Iraq for 10 years, just so they could keep their precious Baghdad office open.

3. Had their CEO Quit in disgrace after falsely accusing US troops of murdering journalists in Iraq.

4. Had one of their Prime Time Stars show footage provided by the enemy showing what Iraqi snipers saw thru their scopes just before they took out their American military targets.

5. Had one of their Not Prime Time Stars describe the victims of Hurricane Katrina as “So poor, and So Black”.

You must be so proud of them.

Now, when you can give us comparable examples of Faux News journalistic malpractice, we’ll stop laughing in your direction.

We’ll have to hold all new House & Senate members accountable. I don’t know what Akin’s record is. Brunner hasn’t had any elective office behind him and a U.S. Senate seat is a step too high for anyone. Speaks of arragance to me.

I favored Steelman after researching her record and liked that she had such a broad area of experience. She seemed to have difficulty in explaining various topics, but that didn’t seem to have any adverse effect on her past experience.

I think a lot of the hatred toward Palin, from the ones that express it here and those from the Administration/Networks etc is due to the Christian factor. It’s always been so from the beginning of time, i.e. Cain & Able.

I know the Scripture you refer to. We must remember that in witnessing, we can go no further than what will be received. However, what is given is seed and someone else may come along to water. And those that we may think rejected what we may have sown, may become converted by another. I’ve seen that happen. And once that’s experienced, truly one will see that God indeed works in mysterious ways:-) Of course prayer prior to witnessing is needed as well. Like Scripture says, one will sow and another will water, but it is God that gives the increase.

Their idea, in their own heads, is that they can somehow persuade to their view. Any weakness on the Conservative side they will count as a victory, if they can fake it.

Otherwise, their purpose is to needle and browbeat. The liberal red herring is a case in point from another thread. The fish head kept hanging on to one self-decided point like a leech, trying to make that the only focus despite all else.

A typical liberal tactic. If the thread is about Obama, liberals who troll here will mention Nixon and hang on to every detail of Nixon. They won’t go beyond that.

Liberals like red herring want to frustrate us so long that, even when we have to go make supper, they claim our leaving is a ‘win’ to them because we didn’t continue the fight until hell freezes over.

I just made popcorn and UpperEastSide can’t be bothered to respond.

What about libfreeordie? At least a simple,”Oops, I didn’t know that’s what swiftboating meant” post would be nice.

Oh well …

VibrioCocci on August 8, 2012 at 1:26 AM

Otherwise, their purpose is to needle and browbeat. The liberal red herring is a case in point from another thread. The fish head kept hanging on to one self-decided point like a leech, trying to make that the only focus despite all else.
Liam on August 8, 2012 at 12:50 AM

I recall from many threads even from earlier this year of this type of behavior that you describe here. Also, many of those are no longer commenting. Guess their job was done and moved on.

Oh, that other thread I asked about. I read half of the first page and noted what you referred to:-)

Thot your definition of Liberal from the Liberal Dictionary was spot on!!

Not much more me to say, except that the trolls here are but themselves.

They gave us the firepower to use against them, of their own words and actions.

I don’t find that sad. I find it disgusting, the pattern common and typical of little minds with mouths that talk too big and all to often.

The answer to that ad would have been to remind the world that this president stood on the Illinois Senate floor demanding fully born, 100% alive, 100% separated from their “mother’s” bodies, fully human, babies be slaughtered by starvation in the case of failed abortions.

He’s cool alright. Some, who haven’t tossed their moral sense in the massive dung heap of modern Godlessness, would more accurately call it cold-hearted.

One still can’t be certain where Mr. Etch-a-sketch will be on these issues. He’s nearly as fast Obama in reassessing his positions of fundamental issue effecting the traditional family–the core stabilizing unit of our once great society.

Hey he’s keeping his promise to heal America AP, he’s just doing it surgically, amputate all that is good, and rebuild a Marxist utopia on its ashes. It’s their tried and true process.

Don L on August 8, 2012 at 5:13 AM

Lol. So CNN is now trying to capture some of the tea party viewership from “we distort you’re deceived”. Wonderful ad by the way.

Uppereastside on August 7, 2012 at 11:02 PM

I don’t believe that Priorities USA has much of a Tea Party audience. but it’s nice of you to tell us how much you like being lied to.

Fuquay Steve on August 8, 2012 at 6:35 AM

CNN has, for years, leaned left

Leaned? Talk about understatement.

Don L on August 8, 2012 at 6:54 AM

Question: Knowing what we know now about the timeline of all this, what’s left of the accusation in the original smear ad?

Just how big a douchebag is Soptic? Whatever Burton’s minions knew about the timeline, Soptic knew the truth and he had no problems getting in front of that camera and essentially say that Mitt Romney killed his wife even though he had been gone from Bain for years by the time she died and now we know that the statement by Soptic that his losing his job left the family without health insurance was a lie. Again, what kind of a human being does something like this? Disgusting.

Happy Nomad on August 8, 2012 at 6:56 AM

Marxist garbage believes in plants that never close, no matter how much or little the demand for the product. I wonder why the beliefs of Democrats once again cross paths with the beliefs of Marxists?

DevilsPrinciple on August 8, 2012 at 7:05 AM

Where are our vanted super PACs? So far they’re good at raising money but not so hot on attacking Obama’s lies. The ads I’ve seen to date are vanilla, wholly forgettable. The time is way over due to zero in on these lies, this one specifically, and push back hard.

Obama is actually swiftboating Romney insofar as nobody is refuting the attacks. They may be lies but they still need to be answered or we lose. Kerry had no good rebuttal so he ignored the charges. That was his excuse. What’s ours? –other than a queasiness about fighting fire with fire.

Scorched earth policy.

Grace_is_sufficient on August 8, 2012 at 7:44 AM

By this ad’s logic Obama is a mass murderer due to millions of unemployed persons losing their insurance and many died because of it on his watch! Furthermore he brags of personally approving and ordering his drone kill list!He has actually killed an American citizen without a trial! If he wants to play this game let’s take it right back at him! He randomly murders innocents with his drone attacks because he won’t take prisoner and interrogate them for intelligence Yeah..this is it ..Obama is a MASS MURDERER!

Marco on August 8, 2012 at 7:51 AM

Marco on August 8, 2012 at 7:51 AM

But the private sector is doing fine. Filled with successful businesses that were created by government infrastructure projects despite the ingratitude of the “owners” who think they actually did it on their own.

Seriously, it will be interesting if Jay Carney addresses this propaganda piece at today’s briefing. He was asked about it yesterday and claimed ignorance (not too hard to be a credible excuse) but sorta half promised a follow-up today after having a chance to see it. My guess is that he will completely ignore this ad or make some comment about it being the PAC’s work and there is a huge wall between the President and such organizations. Your typical leftie BS.

Happy Nomad on August 8, 2012 at 7:57 AM

Calling them out on their lies does not bother them.

Leftists believe that the means justifies the ends in all cases. Thus, they have no problem, in fact relish, lying to everyone.

they lie constantly about what their own beliefs and goals are, what policies they want to institute and what their opponents believe.

so, why should lying about these types of facts be any different?

the left, democrats, and most of the media could care less that they are caught in a lie. And, of course, if this were the GOP doing it – it would be the biggest travesty in 100 years and would be all news/all the time.

Because if you don’t care about honesty or morality or ethics – then hypocrisy doesn’t bother you.

We’ve seen it time and time again. Where are all the war protesters? The left decrying the imperial presidency? the left against signing memos? the left against using drones? the left wanting the closing of Guantanamo? The left against the Patriot Act? The left against rendition?

Where was the left against money in politics when Obama was raising monumental levels of money in 2008 or this election?

The left does not have principles. they only have tactics. they will only care about being caught in this lie if it backfires on them, which it won’t b/c the news will poo-poo it and the vast majority of voters will never even learn it was a massive lie.

We need to wake up and realize that we are not competing in a marketplace of ideas with the left. they never put their plans and ideas out there honestly for people to see and certainly don’t try to win on what they really believe.

They don’t treat elections as debates over ideas. They treat elections as battles to be won at all costs to gain power. To them it doesn’t matter how they win, as long as they win. We need to wake up to that and play by their rules.

Where is Romney? I’m hearing about all of these attack ads against him but no rebuttal whatsoever from him or his campaign. He’d better start fighting back or these Chicago thugs are going to bury him. Are we going to have to witness another McCain campaign?

Certif on August 8, 2012 at 9:16 AM

I’m almost 53 and I’ve followed politics closely since high school.

This is the most disgusting and sleezy ad I’ve ever seen in those decades of watching.

Not only should Obama and his crew be ashamed of themselves (fat chance on that), this husband should also be ashamed of himself for using his dead wife and giving an untrue impression of the facts surrounding her death.

May God have mercy on these people.

Uppereastside on August 7, 2012 at 11:02 PM

No. CNN is finally showing some sense. Ever hear the story of the boy who cried”wolf”? Obama’s administration has lied so many times, so blatantly, that no body believes them any more. And if CNN wants to maintain at least the illusion of integrity, they have to start acknowledging this. Sadly, there are those who have sold their soul and will follow him into Hell no matter how many times he lies to keep hold of his political power.

Hope you like it hot.

dominigan on August 8, 2012 at 9:29 AM

Don’t expect the low intelligence voters to see this ad or the follow up by CNN. We had a glimpse of them on BOR last night. They were interviewed by Jesse Watters at Harvard Square of all places. I’m not even sure they live on our planet. They are what we are up against.

Kissmygrits on August 8, 2012 at 9:37 AM

The real headline should read: CNN Accidentally Commits Random Act of Journalism! Needs to be careful not to let that happen again!

College Prof on August 8, 2012 at 9:49 AM

When will we see Romney come out with an ad on this?!

It’s long overdue.

On Tuesday, President Barack Obama’s senior adviser Valerie Jarrett dodged questions about the Department of Treasury’s decision-making behind terminating 20,000 non-union Delphi salaried retirees’ pensions during the 2009 auto bailout.

Jarrett also refused to answer why she has Secret Service agents assigned to her personally to protect her.

Emails first published on Tuesday show senior White House and Treasury officials were behind the termination of pensions for 20,000 non-union Delphi salaried retirees.

Those emails show that the Treasury Department, led by Secretary Timothy Geithner, was the driving force behind terminating those pensions — a move made in 2009 while the Obama administration implemented its auto bailout plan.

The emails contradict sworn testimony in which several Obama administration figures have consistently said that the decision to terminate the pensions came from the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC). The PBGC is a federal agency that handles private sector pension benefits issues. Its charter calls for independent representation of pension beneficiaries’ interests.

Twenty-nine U.S.C. §1342 maintains that the PBGC is the only government entity that is legally empowered to initiate termination of a pension or make any official movements toward doing so.
