Awesome new scoop on Romney — his high school report card

posted at 6:24 pm on August 2, 2012 by Dustin Siggins

See Update.

Really. Boston.com dug it up, and Mediaite spells it out:

Romney took English 3, Elementary Algebra, Biology, French 1, and Art 3. He is credited in his art class for having a “real ability in painting,” but admitted that Romney is “not as industrious or as responsible as he might be.”

The rest of the report card contains similar comments about Romney’s potential to do better in class, and under additional comments, the following is written about Romney’s overall performance.

“Mitt is doing well. He is a more responsible citizen this year.”

Wow. Just devastating. So while he was allegedly cutting a classmate’s hair because he thought the guy was gay, Mitt was becoming “a more responsible citizen.” Looks like somebodyhad the teacher fooled…

But seriously, his high school report card? Someone at The Boston Globe was paid to research this, and then New England’s biggest newspaper actually wasted online space to publish it? Can we see even half that much effort over Obama’s college records, since they were only 28 years ago instead of over 45 years ago? Personally, I don’t care about the President’s college records, but if we’re supposed to be in an uproar about Romney’s taxes, and care how he did in freakin’ art class, perhaps those could also be found?

I’ve left a message with the editor of Boston.com asking why the decision was made to research this particular bit of so-called news. If he gets back to me I will add an update.

Update, 8/6/12(Ed): Boston Globe editor Martin Baron e-mailed us today to clarify that Romney’s report card has been available on line since 2007, when the Globe produced it for a profile of Romney during that campaign, and was not republished in this cycle:

This report card has been available ever since the Boston Globe published a 7-part biographical series about Romney, which later evolved into a book, “The Real Romney,” published this year. The series was published in 2007 as Romney entered the Republican presidential primaries during the last election cycle and well before anyone knew that Barack Obama would be the Democratic nominee. The Globe researched and published this biography in 2007 because Romney had been governor of our state, and we were well situated to tell the story of his life and career.

As with any biography, it focused on the totality of his life. Romney and some members of his family collaborated to some extent with that series, and a rich trove of material was available elsewhere, including the publicly available archives of his father, former Michigan Gov. George Romney.

One of the stories focused on Romney’s teen years, although it did not dwell on his grades. The report card was posted online in 2007 as a tiny part of an accompanying multimedia presentation. We have never embarked on an investigation of his high school grades, then or since.

Mediaite, which was the source of the story, corrected their article well after Dustin wrote this post.  We are happy to correct the record, and thank Mr. Baron for his gracious note.

Rush had an unidentified caller from Harvard today… claimed obamao had the worst grades in the history of the school and his professors were/are covering for him….. if only we could get dingy Harry to bring that up on the senate floor….. ROFLMAO!!!!!! Rush is magnificent!

ultracon on August 2, 2012 at 7:09 PM

Actually, didn’t Rush just say he had someone call him and told him that? I listened to that segment of the show and as I recall he just said it. I never heard the actual caller, if there was one. Would the Rush show transcript show that?

And I think he was being sarcastic to make a point.

I want the Romney family home movies. There is something on that film to sink his campaign, I’ll bet.

I followed the link to the Pew poll from RealClearPolitics, and the PDF file said the sample was 22% R, 33% D, 38% I, with 14% Lean Republican and 15% Lean Democrat. The sample would therefore be D+11 without Leaners, or D+12 (36/48) with Leaners.

Then again, 22 + 33 + 38 = 93%. Who are the other 7% in the sample? Democrats who don’t identify themselves as either Democrats or Independents? That would give a D+19 bias…

In other news, a Pew poll showed that voters overwhelmingly prefer Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House. No one was called east of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Registered voters: 1956

Affirmative Action! Even the student body itself at Harvard around those few years were protesting for more AA, even though the effect of that would be to water down their own education.

A more interesting question is how a poorly-performing student from Occidental managed to get a transfer to Columbia. Apparently those few years there was a terrible shortage of affordable apartments and other housing for Columbia students and they were actually having a hard time filling their rosters. The SAT average for students admitted to Columbia in the year that little Bammie transfered was very low.

There are also articles out there about two-schools within a school at Columbia, like Columbia College and Columbia University, and little Bammie was at the lesser of the two.

He is credited in his art class for having a “real ability in painting,”

Must be in his DNA.

George Romney (26 December 1734 – 15 November 1802) was an English portrait painter.

He was the most fashionable artist of his day, painting many leading society figures – including his artistic muse, Emma Hamilton, mistress of Lord Nelson.[1][2]

George Romney is a kinsman of American businessmen and politicians George W. Romney (1907–1995) and Mitt Romney (born 1947).[6]

By the way, if you follow the link, you’ll see an actual image of the report card, which labels Romney as “Form III.”

Assuming Cranbrook used the standard English system for designating secondary school years (as some other US independent schools did at the time), “Form III” refers to Freshman year.

That’s right folks, the Globe got the big scoop of Romney’s freshman year report card! Because there’s no better predictor of presidential success than a candidate’s freshman art grade. Except middle school music, maybe…

It was revealed that it was the first year in their existence that the university had more out-of-state students in attendance. Just think, they expended time, effort, manpower and page space to find and publish Romney’s high school report card.

Yet we have no information about any of Obama’s grades, how he got into Occidental, Columbia or Harvard. No former co-workers, no former classmates. Nothing. The media can’t be bothered to expend any energy on that. Just like that infamous clip Rush plays with two alleged top-level journalists commiserating about how they didn’t know the universe of Obama’s thinking, what books he had read or been influenced by. Did the Boston Globe tell us HOW they acquired the report card? Why are Republican report cards—high school and college—public information? Isn’t someone breaking the law by releasing these things? Why can’t we find even one record associated with Obama’s schooling or even his public record as a Senator in Illinois?

And the birth certificate deal? Why did Obama spend literally millions denying access and then suddenly (thanks to Donald Trump) produce it 4 years later? When Obama flummoxed Hillary Clinton on this (and it WAS Hillary who first questioned and then took Obama to court), I knew it was a losing issue. Big lies do work. It’s all been spun so masterfully and the investigators so thoroughly demonized, it’s a dead end. BUT, the whole thing doesn’t add up: millions to keep it hidden and 4 years to have it make a sudden appearance? Doesn’t add up. Like all his Senate records disappearing.

Mitt could always argue that he “inherited” his current prejudice from George.

However, when George Romney made his campaign globe trot, he did not criticize any government while he was abroad, and kept his diplomatic options open to all concerned rather than expressing bias or making statements regarding his foreign policy while abroad. Mitt in London said he’d wait until he got stateside, but he just couldn’t help himself once in Jerusalem.

“I have come here to listen, to look, and to learn,” from Palestinian refugees who repeated their desire to go home.

“If Mitt Romney hopes to be viewed as a fair broker of peace between Israelis and Palestinians—a role he must play if he wants to establish a two-state solution—virtually ignoring Palestinians isn’t a strong first step.”

One thing’s apparent: Mitt Romney is Netanyahu’s VP.

“Mitt Romney’s suggestion that Palestinians’ economic troubles can be attributed to an inferior culture and his decision to cancel a pre-scheduled meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas offended many in the region and opened the Republican presidential hopeful to charges of diplomatic incompetence.” Igor Volsky, July 31, ’12

The message that economically successful countries are culturally superior explains empire morality, subjecting others to slavery and tribute in order for the dominator to gain wealth (as old as “civilization”). Where your treasure is, your heart will be also.

Carnegie’s “Gospel of Wealth” investing in the improvement of others to benefit society at large out of one’s abundance would be a more popular message across the board than this self indulging in false humility called Prosperity Theology which is used by elitists for self promotion. Consider the lack of humanity exercised by the government of Great Britain when England exported the entire potato crop from the starving Irish population, forcing their starvation, excusing their self indulgence in taking what they wanted regardless of consequences to those taken from, by saying it was God’s Will that the Irish starve. The same vain mentality prompted Winston Churchill to starve the population under his governance in India, since they didn’t properly appreciate being abused by the British Empire colonialism, deserving forced (not voluntary) starvation in prison for having peacefully protested British occupation.

For idiots, Jesus was no Marxist, and did not accept the role of financial arbiter, his disciples remained working fishermen and Jesus never ordered “redistribution of wealth”. His message was simple; from your abundance, feed and cloth those less fortunate. Be willing to give the shirt off your back before responding in anger to insult or abuse. Be filled always with Charity: the Love of God, neighbor and self practicing the Golden Rule. And beware the clutches of greed, as no one can serve both God and Money.

So calling the wealthiest nations the most culturally superior is vanity since too big to fail predictably meets a bitter end, after long ignoring the suffering of the downtrodden.

Luke 12:13-21

[13] Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”

[14] Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?” [15] Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

[16] And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. [17] He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’

[18] “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. [19] And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.” ‘

[20] “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

[21] “This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God.”

The liberal rags are removing all doubt there is a distinct correlation between total incompetence and being completely petty. The Washington Post has flushed decades of their claim to journalistic integrity by their immature and juvenille attempts to belittle Romney from school yard pranks from over 50 years ago. Sad that once proud newspapers turn to the trash heaps of the future by exposing what they have always been.
