Video: Long lines on Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day

posted at 3:56 pm on August 1, 2012 by Allahpundit

An A/V follow-up on Rob’s post to give you a sense of how things are going. There’s no hard sales data yet, just anecdotal accounts of big crowds, but the photos are impressive. Twitchy has a nice gallery; this one, from Fox Atlanta, is local but also solid. And as for the lone CFA in the Chicago, Legal Insurrection’s got that covered. A reminder to Rahm and that dumb alderman who wanted Chick-fil-A banned from his ward: Gay-marriage opponents turn out. If you’re going to take them on and risk galvanizing them, at least avoid doing it via tactics that are obviously unconstitutional and therefore destined to fail. Good lord.

There are lots of videos of crowds at CFA franchises on YouTube today but the quickie clip below is the best I’ve seen at capturing the volume. If you’ve got a better one, e-mail it to us and I’ll update. One footnote on the timeline here: Huckabee’s initial Facebook post on July 22 calling for Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day didn’t mention any threats by government officials to ban the company from their districts. Unless I’ve missed something, the only pol to that point who had warned the company was Mumbles in Boston; the Chicago alderman’s ultimatums didn’t make a splash nationally until two days later. This didn’t start out as a protest of government overreach, in other words, but I think it’s become one in part, in addition to the basic statement being made in support of traditional values. I wonder how much extra money Rahm made for the Cathy family today.

The company itself has apparently had enough of being a cultural lightning rod, doing nothing whatsoever to promote Huckabee’s idea. Exit quotation from a Chick-fil-A customer: “He (Dan Cathy) said the exact same thing that President Obama said. And he gets negativity, and Obama gets positivity.” Yes, because Obama’s a cynical, self-interested liar and literally everyone knows it.

Update: Good question from John McCormack: “Just to be clear: Obama’s former chief of staff wants to trample on the rights of religious business owners, and Obama said nothing, right?”

And lo, the Lord beheld two men doing unspeakable things.
And the Lord saideth, “C’mon, now that’s just disgusting.”
But they ignored the Lord.
And the Lord said, “From this day forth, you shall ban yourselves from Chick-fil-A,” “never to eat of the delicious chicken sandwiches with that pickle slice that really makes the sandwich.” And it was made so.
And then the Lord, being merciful and kind, invented men’s synchronized diving, so that they might occupy themselves with something other than you know what. And it was ridiculous, but less disgusting.

ROFL! ROFL! Oh my Lord… we conservatives have so much more fun than those sad and hateful liberals.

Even Sunset & Highland in Hollyweird did pretty good trade today – employees said 5x 6x or so…

Ah, found out Michelle Malkin was on this subject about Miller Brewing Company back in 2007.

From Michelle’s article…While apologizing for any offense, Miller seemed to argue yesterday that it should be free to market to audiences whose practices are found offensive by many Americans.

We have NO chick fil a’s to support in our blue state. However, if there had been one … I would have been there 3 times today and I would have made sure that my friends and family would have been there, even if I had to reimburse them for their purchases.

Good job Patriots & Conservatives!

Not to mention, Christ never once mentioned homosexuality. Not once.

JetBoy on August 1, 2012 at 4:26 PM

He never mentioned pedophilia either.

Just voting for Romney is not enough.

Is there anyone on this board that voted for Obama in 2008?

I thought not…

Just a final bit of humor for my last post. This day reminded me of this quote:

What’s the matter Colonel Sanders….chicken?

Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed by God because of sexual promiscuity…not because a few guys were hooking up with each other for a little zoom-zoom. Go back and read the passage instead of blindly pulling it out of the holster to shoot without aiming.

JetBoy on August 1, 2012 at 5:14 PM

Riiight. That’s why one of the cities was called Sodom. The Lord destroying it had nothing to do with the activity associated with that name. /sarc

dukecitygirl on August 1, 2012 at 11:55 PM

The only real pronouncement Jesus made on human sexuality concerns the union of male and female as the expression of the order created by God (with an explicit quotation from Genesis 1:27 and 2:24) in a discussion on marriage: “Have you not read that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female … and the two shall become one?” (Mt 19:4-5; Mk 10:6-7)

homosexuality had already been condemned by Jewish tradition, to which all the early Christian writers are basically indebted, and that similarly in the Greek world it was censured by the predominant Stoic philosophy as contrary to nature.

This issue is a goldmine for Republicans. We are mistaken if we think the thing to do is shrink away from the gay issue. In particular, ROMNEY can exploit this by being firm and strong, NOT LACKADAISICAL about it.
I was reading this freerepublic post on people reporting their Chick-fil-A experiences, and a person reported huge lines at a Massachusetts store, and it sort of reminded me of all the excitement before the Scott Brown victory.
The key for Romney to keep in mind: in Massachusetts, and everywhere, especially swing states, there are a ton of Democratic leaning voters who will likely be motivated to vote for Romney because of the gay issue. So, don’t run away from the gay issue, or these people are likely to go ahead and vote for Obama. Stand up and help lead the charge like Huckabee!

anotherJoe on August 2, 2012 at 6:18 AM

I’m still reading the freerepublic post where people reported their experiences at Chick-fil-A yesterday. I highly recommend reading it, or even doing a blog post here on it summarizing some of the comments (and photos!), like this one:

Reporting from Fort Worth,Texas! Lines coming out the door and cars around the block in the drive thru! The place was packed! People leaving with huge bags of food and gallons of tea! Still it was efficient and organized given the huge numbers of people and vehicles. Food is good.

The sleeping giant has awoken! I saw people of all racial and ethnic stripes too! There were Mercedes and beat up pick up trucks in line…no great class divide here.

anotherJoe on August 2, 2012 at 6:39 AM

Not to mention, Christ never once mentioned homosexuality. Not once.
JetBoy on August 1, 2012 at 4:26 PM

That’s not really true. In both Matthew and Mark, Christ condemns “pornea”. Pornea is a greek work meaning any kind of unlawful, unnatural or immoral sexual behavior. In ancient Israel it would certainly have included homosexual behavior.

tommyboy on August 2, 2012 at 7:53 AM

Now, would it seem plausible for those that oppose gay marriage to boycott the Miller Brewing Company for their open support of such crude behavior on public streets? To show how these boycotts and intolerance of of others can get out of hand, I propose that the month of August be declared “Miller Beer Off Limits” and watch the backlash from the intolerant liberals.

metroryder on August 1, 2012 at 10:20 PM

To be honest, I’ve been boycotting Miller for 30 years — because their beer sucks

I hit Chick-fil-A three times yesterday: breakfast, lunch and dinner. I was late to lunch (about 2:15 or so) and the place was full. I asked if it was always like this after 2pm, and the girl behind the counter said, “No! I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s been like this all day! They called me in to work early. Is today like National Chick-fil-A Day or something?” I chuckled, but didn’t let her in on it. :)

I went with my son for dinner. We almost couldn’t find a parking spot. (Somebody pulled out as we came along, so it worked out.) It was standing room only inside. People were taking pictures and videos with their phones. A lot of folks were wearing church t-shirts. And, still, it only took a few minutes for our order to get fulfilled. Oh, and the employees were still as pleasant as they always are. (They did look a little bushed, though!)

Evidently, the kiss-in has moved to Friday (probably to avoid the crowds). I plan on making sure I eat Chick-fil-A again on Friday. Maybe I’ll buy an extra sandwich or nuggets to share. Might be fun. ;)

Do you realize how many times the Bible has been “edited” by mortal men to mirror their own personal beliefs and then written to say that GOD himself said these things? It is the most heavily-edited and out-of-context book around.

inthemiddle on August 1, 2012 at 4:42 PM

Actually, itm, the Bible has the most rigorous sourcing of any ancient text we know. It is the most consistent and has the most attribution of any other text out there. There are some variances between texts, yes. But they are few and far between, and never remake the actual message of the text as a whole.

Are you saying the Bible is literally the same as when it was written? Because there are words in it that DIDN’T EXIST a 100 years ago even. Please think for yourself. God gives us free will – even to change his words to justify homophobia.

inthemiddle on August 1, 2012 at 4:52 PM

It just about is the same, itm. Ancient Hebrew and Greek texts are pretty much the same as the ones written in the intertestamental period, which are pretty much the same as the ones from the times of the Early Church Fathers. (I’m talking Old Testament, here. New Testament was obviously new.) And, no, there aren’t any words in it that didn’t exist 100 years ago. Pretty much everything in it existed as much as 4,000 years ago. (Or, about 2,000 years ago for the newer parts.) What might not have existed 100 years ago is an English word that is used to translate the Hebrew and Greek. Fair enough – when you learn enough Hebrew and Greek to translate it yourself, come back to me and we’ll talk.

I was delighted to drive an hour yesterday to eat at the nearest ChickFilA for the first time ever. I was surprised that it was so tasty (spicy chicken sandwich). I will be back. I’m sure many other first timers will be as well.

I can’t imagine any advertising or offer by the company, no matter how much they spent on it, that would have produced this result. Businesses need to take this into consideration before they simply cave into left wing demands, assuming that such actions will build their customer base.

DaMav on August 2, 2012 at 11:05 AM

Let’s call it: Occupy Chick-Fil-A!

rgeaste on August 2, 2012 at 11:18 AM

Waited an hour, had a great chicken club (on whole wheat), worth it. Best part, the intolerent left got the chicken club too, they just don’t know it yet. Driving the tolerent away with bully tactics, reading the tea laves wrong.

Too bad Christians can’t practice their religion like the Muslims can in this country.

Can you imagine making Gitmo prisoners eat pork?
Not pray 5X a day, and there’d be an outcry all the way to Mecca and back.

Muslim terrorists who have killed innocents are granted more religious rights than we law abiding Christian Americans.

“We’re sick of this sh** and not going to take it anymore!”
