Report: GOP investigation finds five top ATF officials responsible for Fast & Furious

posted at 10:01 pm on July 30, 2012 by Allahpundit

Fearless prediction: Whatever happens on election day, we’re going to have ourselves a new Attorney General next year. Obama wouldn’t dump him before for fear of looking weak by caving to GOP pressure, but if he wins in November, he’ll have a perfect excuse. Just normal administration turnover; all presidents do it. No need to read anything into it just because this particular turnover involved a guy who oversaw guns being walked to Mexican drug lords.

Note well: This is only the first of three reports to come.

Republican congressional investigators have concluded that five senior ATF officials — from the special agent-in-charge of the Phoenix field office to the top man in the bureau’s Washington headquarters — are collectively responsible for the failed Fast and Furious gun-tracking operation that was “marred by missteps, poor judgments and inherently reckless strategy.”

The investigators, in a final report likely to be released later this week, also unearthed new evidence that agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Phoenix initially sought to hide from the Mexican government the crucial information that two Fast and Furious firearms were recovered after the brother of a Mexican state attorney general was killed there

Two more final reports, they said, will deal with “the devastating failure of supervision and leadership” at the Department of Justice and an “unprecedented obstruction of the [congressional] investigation by the highest levels of the Justice Department, including the attorney general himself.”

Follow the link for more, including the names of the five DOJ/ATF officials who are most culpable. Holder isn’t one of them but, per the excerpt, he’s set for a starring role in one of the next two reports to come about DOJ obstruction. The point of this leak, I assume, is to give Obama one last chance to drop his executive privilege claim over the DOJ documents that Issa wants to see. (The LAT quotes the report as saying it’s based on “the best information available as of now.”) If he does that, then the report will be held back while GOP investigators go through the new evidence. If he doesn’t do it, then the GOP can argue that there must be nothing in those e-mails that exculpates any of the five guys they’ve named. Your move, champ.

As Operations go, it was a pretty sloppy one from start to finish.

The ironic part, if you can call it that, is that the weapons that they so causally go South of the Border, they are doing their darnedest to deny legal US Gun Owners to have.

LOL. You STILL don’t understand the Dog-Eater, at all. He’s not looking for any excuse to dump Holder and he doesn’t care what you or anyone thinks about it. If he wins in November, the Indonesian Imbecile is more likely to declare Holder AG for life than your silly fantasy.

Why won’t you people ever learn? It’s not like the Third World Retard keeps any of this stuff secret … WTFFFF?

That’s a brief rant from Alan Keyes on the eve of the 2009 inauguration of the man who calls himself Obama. He understood then what only a handful of people in the public sphere now understand about the situation we’re in. While the nation was swooning and even Conservatives were heralding Obama as a man of promise, there was Keyes predicting exactly what we were about to go through. Since then, many have woken up, but there’s just too many people still deluding themselves about who he is.

I don’t think this country is ready to dump Obama- or even deserves to be spared the consequences for what it’s done. America is going to have to pay for the choice it made. She’ll be led by the hand to her destruction just like a bride to the altar.

Alan Keyes is a man of true integrity and courage. He did his best to warn the elitists and punditry and he did his best to force the serious eligibility issue in court. But, this nation just wouldn’t allow any sanity to prevail. It preferred living in a schizophrenic dream world.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair on July 31, 2012 at 4:39 AM

but if he wins in November…

If he wins very little will matter. Game over, man. Game over. And in any case, now that we know he wasn’t able to make the simplest decision – like capping Osama — on his own, you get the feeling that this will depend on Holder. If Hpward Sprague wants to stay AG for the big dinners and all the free stuff, he’ll stay AG.

Most of this information was available and the dots were exceedingly simple to connect.

If Obama wins re-election:

Aside from the facts that

A Obama has never admitted a mistake.
B Obama and Holder are as tight as ticks.
C Holder probably consulted Obama and got approval before Fast & Furious.
D Obama could care less that the Fast and Furious boondoggle cost lives.

Obama will look upon an election victory as a confirmation of his policies and all the appointments has has made. HOLDER STAYS AND THE USA GOES!

Fearless prediction: Whatever happens on election day, we’re going to have ourselves a new Attorney General next year

wrong. if we wins, which he wont, he needs holder there to keep the bodies burried. if there is GOP senate and house, they wont be able to continue investigating, obama needs holder there to stonewall and go back to: “this whole thing has been settled, the questions have been answered, the documents given, and i need to get back to work (bankrupting) for the american people”

If GW Bush and Don Rumsfeld were held to be totally responsible by the Left for the actions of a US Army Reserve MP Brigade 6200 miles away, and at least six layers of command…with calls for impeachment at a minimum and many calling for the incarceration and execution of both for war crimes….

Can they at least be consistent here?

Obama and Holder are 100% responsible for all the actions of ATF/DoJ and “Fast and Furious. 100% responsible.

As I learned at the 7th Army NCO Academy back in the day…a leader can delegate authority but a leader can never delegate responsibility.

Obama and Holder are thus, under US jurisprudence, accessory to all crimes committed by ATF, or any other DoJ entity.

coldwarrior on July 31, 2012 at 7:39 AM

I think I disagree with your prediction that Holder will be gone in November. I could be wrong of course, but removing Holder would suggest that Obama has some sort of moral compass, a character that distinguishes right from wrong, and I don’t see that in him. Another president (of either party) would have removed Holder when he tried to stop the investigation of the new black panther intimidation at the polling place on election night. He would have removed him when he said American’s are cowards. I believe Obama has an agenda, and Holder plays a role.

We are after all speaking about the president who signed an executive order last week launching “The African American Education Initiative”. He has made a choice on the Americans he wishes to govern. They are democrat of any color, African Americans, the pro abortion crowd, occupy wallstreet, and he has a soft place in his heart for anyone that is not Jewish or Christian. As I approach my next birthday which brings me closer to 60, I can assure you I have never seen anything like this mess my entire adult life. I have not witnessed it from either party as blatant as the situation we find ourselves in.

With age as my experience, there should be no possible way Obama wins re-election against anyone. Should he pull it off, we are in worse shape in this country that we even imagined. It would suggest that all of the liberal policies and take over of the schools years ago have finally payed off for the democrat party. It would suggest that the electorate has finally turned. That alone can put the republican party out of commission for many many years, and we go the way of Europe, a once free people that allowed a socialist government to reign with no real way to get it back. I am not ready to believe that yet, but election night will tell us where we stand. We have a long fight ahead, regardless.

This report is just a cheap and irresponsible trick by the Romney campaign to deflect from the far more serious charge that he’s a rich man who submits his dog to the degradation of having to ride on the roof of the car.

Is their nothing those republicans won’t do to gain power over we little people?

Don L on July 31, 2012 at 8:32 AM

And so I was reading last night. Over on Ace, he’s got a nice post on how the DEA is sorta trying to have it’s own Fast and Furious or something? Anyone else see this? What the heck is going on in our government agencies?

http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/Owner-wants-DEA-to-pay-for-truck-damage-from-sting-3743683.php

So the DEA secretly hires a trucking company’s driver as a spy to haul pot down into southern Texas … all without the owner’s permission or knowledge. The driver gets killed while hauling pot and the truck is shot up, cops are shooting each other because it’s all a big fiasco and the DEA just exits without paying any damages to the trucks owner? Now the owner (he only had 2 trucks for his business) his forced into bankruptcy and he and his family live in fear of drug lords.

This is insane! We don’t have law enforcement anymore at the Federal level.

You know… we’ve found out about Fast and Furious and all.. but I bet we only know 10% of all the crap they are doing! God help us if this monster gets another term!

JellyToast on July 31, 2012 at 8:42 AM

There is also the State Dept. sending FA weapons and grenades to their favored cartel in Mexico, Operation Castaway and various gunwalking incidents inside the US to get arms into the hands of gang members… all brought to you courtesy of DoJ, ATF, State, and DHS. When AFT goes and flagrantly breaks the IMEX laws put in to enforce treaty obligations that we have with other countries, I don’t want to hear about past indiscretions from one, two or more generations ago: those fish have been fried, buried and are now fertilizer. You don’t get to bemoan and berate about the past and sit on your butt in the present – since that is how the bemoaning goes that we got such past problems, it is best not to do the exact, same thing in the present.

Obama’s problem with Holder is that a pardon removes any 5th Amendment reasons for Holder NOT to go through Congressional inquiry… and since programs started under him will have ongoing ramifications for decades, Holder can’t demur from doing so and faces no criminal liability those actions. Taking the 5th also means that there is MORE than just whatever a pardon got him that is an ongoing illegality. Do note that the impeachment power is not limited by time, and can be used on officeholders who have already left office to remove immunity from them: after the Nixon pardon there was serious talk about continuing on with his impeachment to remove the pardon. So even leaving office with a pardon before the next Congress is sworn in doesn’t get Holder out of this.

If Obama wins, well, I’m not expecting this Nation to actually be anything like it has been the last few years.

If he loses the Nation is on the path to start removing most of the 20th century governmental overburden in a decade or two.

Neither of these will be easy going, but ONE of them will be civil and done via legal means and methods… note which side of legality Holder is on and that will tell you what happens on that other path. In the end it doesn’t matter how many rounds of ammo DHS has, how much riot gear or any other thing as a government willing to assault its people is due for a change. Our choice is to take the civil means and exercise the rights of man as individual that has government that does not put his liberty at peril. Make sure all who can see this threat are registered to vote. And introduce them to self-defense as our leading gun salesman and marketer in the Oval Office should have one, last clear view of a population very well armed and extremely polite and civil. This is something they fear: civilians creating civil society and safeguarding it. It doesn’t start at the top, but at the bottom with you.

Yeah… next time you are stopped for speeding, just trying moaning about how some other guy got away with it a few years ago. See how that works out. If you get caught not paying taxes (unless you are a Dem politician) try moaning to the IRS that Democrat politicians don’t pay their taxes either and see how that works out for you.

This administrator is lawless. The more lawless they become, the more they tighten screws on the rest of us.

If Romney doesn’t win and Obama gets his next life term.. he is not going to get rid of anyone. And if he did for some reason.. they will only be replaced with someone far more worse.

JellyToast on July 31, 2012 at 9:40 AM

So we’re supposed to believe that 5 people in the ATF, without the knowledge of the DOJ or the White House, decided to run hundreds of weapons across an international border and into a sovereign nation?

Seriously?

They were just doing this of their own accord to….what? Bolster arguments being made by Obama et al that American guns were being used to commit crimes south of the border?

At the very least, the Obama administration needs to be held accountable for an agency that, according to them, has run amok and flooded Mexico with guns and caused the deaths of some two hundred plus people.

These people need to be hauled into court and charged for their complicity in the murder of Brian Terry and his family needs to file a civil suit against them. Perhaps then we might hear from them about who really came up with this operation and who authorised it.

Jay Mac on July 31, 2012 at 9:54 AM

DEA now comandeering Trucks without owners knowledge or permission for undercover operations…I guess since the business owner didn’t build his business he’s outta luck?

“The truck, it turned out, had been everywhere but in the repair shop.

Commandeered by one of his drivers, who was secretly working with federal agents, the truck had been hauling marijuana from the border as part of an undercover operation. And without Patty’s knowledge, the Drug Enforcement Administration was paying his driver, Lawrence Chapa, to use the truck to bust traffickers…”

Much of S. America, “commie goverments”. Vote slaves. Wage Slaves.
Kick backs from drug dealers. Border Patrol, CIA, ATF, DEA taking bribes. Justice Dept. run by a commie hate all whites nut job with a law degree. Example of how sick it is being followed by local Tea Part group in New Mexico.

http://www.lunatpp.org/

Reese family gun store that got charged in and with reg: to said gun running.

Of some note is the under oath evidence by S/A Eddie Pacheco,,,

Questioned by Reese atty. Mr. Gorence,, When asked if there was another way to check if some one was crossing the border…like walking over. Under oath..”When pedestrians come across the border they don’t always swipe the (passport or drives license or other ID) that they are just waved through.”

So, why even pretend there is a border, these commie Democrats do intend to destroy the U.S.A. and U.S. with it.

This is a great link for sure CNN, ABC, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, LA Times , New York Times, etal or even FoxNews are not going to let the American people know just how low the U.S. Goverment is at this time.

If we do not want to lose our Freedom, Liberity, and Nation we will have to take the country back from these two parties D/R who are not doing the job required.

Ask Questions to yourselves.
Once you question what they have told U.S..
It only demands many more and much better answers.

On Brian Terrys death.

What was he doing there?
Who else was there?
Why were all of those exact people there that night at that time?
How many were paid informants for a U.S. Goverment agency?
What was the reason for all of them to be there?
Where is all the evidence of the crime?
One , two, or more fast and furiouns linked guns and where are the guns now?

You know facts.

We seem to have a fact free Goverment at this time.

Not acceptable.

I still think it goes higher. Executive Privilege wasn’t used for just Holder.

gophergirl on July 30, 2012 at 10:44 PM

As I understand it, Executive Privilege only applies to the president and consultations with his advisers. It does not extend to department heads and their papers or communications.
The ONLY way that lil barry can claim EP is if he is saying that he was completely knowledgeable about F&F from start to finish.

Solaratov on July 31, 2012 at 4:56 PM

But, I do have faith in one part of our government, our military, and it will be up to its leaders to refuse to follow any such extra-Constitutional orders, indeed it is their duty to do so.

TXUS on July 30, 2012 at 11:00 PM

Perhaps the general officer corps of thirty years ago — but, from what I’ve seen of today’s military leaders, I’d say that it’s doubtful that the general officer corps would even disagree very much with what obama tries to do; much less, refuse illegal orders or try to depose the little dictator wannabe. At the most, a few might resign “in protest”.

Solaratov on July 31, 2012 at 5:49 PM

Which is the very reason that the “trucons” give for voting third-party of not voting — or even voting for lil barry. America deserves to be punished for not supporting the “real” conservatives running.
I suppose that they’re also the same people planning on blood in the streets to free us at some later date.

Brian Terry was in the field with standing order to use ‘non-lethal’ force against the group they were there to apprehend that night. This edict was handed down by DHS Director Janet Napolitano. Terry and the other CBP officers were armed with bean bag launchers and their .40 S&W Glock’s in their holsters.
The bean bag launchers were no match against the 7.62×39 AK-47′s.
Terry was shot at close range in the chest. He bled out long before his ‘Golden Hour’ was up.
Jaime Zapata and Victor Avila were with ICE and DEA working in conjunction with Mexican authorities. Zapata was killed and Avila was seriously wounded by Mexican cartel hit men in a gun fight. The cartel men had AK’s (from F&F) and the two agents from the United States had handguns. Would King Putt call that fair?
Fast & Furious has lead to the deaths of over THREE HUNDRED Mexican citizens.
Tell me, can Executive Privilege be used to thwart justice?

Missilengr on July 31, 2012 at 6:56 PM

ATF, the section of your benevolent Government Justice Department that brought you “Ruby Ridge”, (sniper at 300 ft, killing a mother holding her child because he felt a threat). “Waco Tx”, gassing women and children with a chemical agent that cannot even be used in warfare because it is so insidiously painful, this is not the gas that all military trainees go through, (been exposed to it in special Army training) that taking your own life is a viable alternative. “Fast and Furious” 100′s murdered and 100′s more maimed for life. What else have they been in on over the years? Not one serious prosecution or disciplinary action in all that time. I sincerely believe that no ATF agent can be totally clear of some degree of tainting from this.

Now what gets me is that the information they have could still be of value and can be used. They know where, when and to whom the guns used in the murders and shooting were sold to. How many of these people have subsequently been picked up and informed that they are an accessory to murder and will be getting the needle unless they cooperate.

Answer: Not One.
Question: WHY?
