Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on July 29, 2012 by Allahpundit

Tough call this morning. Do we watch Dick Cheney on ABC talking about the election, national security, and just maybe the Chick-fil-A kerfuffle (he’s pro-SSM, remember) or Antonin Scalia on Fox talking about gun control jurisprudence and SCOTUS fallout from the ObamaCare decision?

If neither piques your interest, you’ve got Penn State-palooza on CBS. (“Meet the Press” is off because of the Olympics.) The line-up via WaPo:

CBS’ Face the Nation: Penn State President Rodney Erickson; former Justice Sandra Day O’Connor; DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL); Buzz Bissinger, author; Sara Ganim, Patriot-News; Bill Rhoden, New York Times; James Brown, CBS; Jim Rome, CBS; Jan Crawford, CBS

ABC’s This Week: Robert Gibbs, Obama campaign senior adviser; Kevin Madden, Romney campaign senior adviser; former Vice President Dick Cheney; George Will, ABC; Donna Brazile, Democratic strategist; David Chalian, Yahoo! News; Dana Loesch, Breitbart.com; Ruth Marcus, Washington Post

Fox News Sunday: Antonin Scalia, U.S. Supreme Court Justice; Chip Saltsman, former Mike Huckabee campaign manager; Liz Marlantes, Christian Science Monitor; Kimberley Strassel, Wall Street Journal; Juan Williams, Fox News

CNN’s State of the Union with Candy Crowley: Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH); Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL); Ken Goldstein, Kantar Media/CMAG; Ron Brownstein, National Journal; Michael Scherer, Time

What I do in trying to decide on a Sunday morning talk show is look at the guests on all the programs, figure which one probably passes gas the most, and whichever program he’s on I watch. With Scalia on Fox and Cheney on “This Week” it’s a tough call today.

Romney voices aggressive stance toward Iran

JERUSALEM (AP) — Mitt Romney would respect an Israeli decision to make a unilateral military strike against Iran aimed at preventing Tehran from obtaining nuclear capability, a top foreign policy adviser said Sunday as he outlined the aggressive posture the Republican presidential candidate will take toward Iran in a speech in Israel later in the day.

Romney has said he has a “zero tolerance” policy toward Iran obtaining the capability to build a nuclear weapon.

“If Israel has to take action on its own, in order to stop Iran from developing the capability, the governor would respect that decision,” foreign policy adviser Dan Senor told reporters ahead of the speech, planned for late Sunday near Jerusalem’s Old City.

Senor said Romney is careful to note the governor believes preventing nuclear “capability” — not just a nuclear weapon — is critical.

He later clarified his comments in a written statement, saying: “Gov. Romney believes we should employ any and all measures to dissuade the Iranian regime from its nuclear course, and it is his fervent hope that diplomatic and economic measures will do so. In the final analysis, of course, no option should be excluded.”

Tough to choose between Scalia and Cheney. Both make thoughtful well considered remarks that prompt evaluation. I doubt Scalia will actually give us the inside dope on the health care decision; which is what most people want to hear. I doubt Cheney will critcize Chik-Fil-A. This is a religious freedom and freedom of speech issue and he will have no problem sticking up for that.

Some are now claiming Romney wants to go to a hot war but hot war is actually the result of longer term foreign policy failure. People who believe that if we ignore the world, the world will ignore us are overly optimistic. A stitch in time can really save nine. In this case, dealing with Iran before it has a weaponized nuclear threat may forestall a lot worse confrontation down the road. Had Obama proactively supported the 2009 Iranian uprising following the stolen presidential election there, this whole “Iranian Nuke Threat” problem could have been mooted by now. Had Bush supported the coup against Chavez early in his presidency, we might not be seeing Latin America moving to communism now.

Report: US presents Israel with Iran strike plan

JERUSALEM (AP) — An Israeli newspaper reported Sunday that the Obama administration’s top security official has briefed Israel on U.S. plans for a possible attack on Iran, seeking to reassure it that Washington is prepared to act militarily should diplomacy and sanctions fail to pressure Tehran to abandon its nuclear enrichment program.

[snip]

It cited an unidentified senior American official as the source of its report, which came out as presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney was telling Israel he would back an Israeli military strike against Iran. Source

There is not one single true assertion in any of this..it is all one big fat lie.

For one thing, we can thank Clinton for a lot of that…after all, he was the guy who made the regime change in Iraq our national policy..he was also the guy who said no thanks to Sudan when they offered to hand over Bin Laden and he was also the guy who helped create the meltdown by signing the repeal of Glass-Steagall.

As for Obama, I have never called him jug ears, but I do hold him responsible for his own policies, something you apparently are unable to do.

Unfortunately I don’t deserve to lose and that is an unpleasant bi-product of their stupidity.

When signing documents that requires her legal signature, she uses the name “Deborah Schultz,” which is why her unreported high-dollar home in NH was able to fly under the radar for so long.

Maureen Dowd~ This Mitt Romney person certainly is awkward

AP, I’ve asked this question before. Why does not HA make its own comment section for articles like this. Typically, the NYT comments section is closed after they have their fan base fill it with anti-American platitudes.

Maureen Dowd is a fraud of the first order and her content of third grade subjects for the the intellectually challenged Leftinistas, let alone her poor concept execution skills,is third rate at best.

I’d like to see threads ripping frauds like Dowd a new one.

What say you,AP ?

Bmore on July 29, 2012 at 11:46 AM

There is not one single true assertion in any of this..it is all one big fat lie.

For one thing, we can thank Clinton for a lot of that…after all, he was the guy who made the regime change in Iraq our national policy..he was also the guy who said no thanks to Sudan when they offered to hand over Bin Laden and he was also the guy who helped create the meltdown by signing the repeal of Glass-Steagall.

As for Obama, I have never called him jug ears, but I do hold him responsible for his own policies, something you apparently are unable to do.

Terrye on July 29, 2012 at 10:56 AM

Nobody stopped Bush/Cheney from reinstate Glass-steagall.

But maybe “deficits don’t matter” Cheney was against that.

They were doing a lot of damage on top of that.

the_nile on July 29, 2012 at 11:46 AM

Sorry, Dick, but wasn’t you who said we needed amnesty because illegals were doing jobs Americans refused to do?

I thought that was McCain.

Sorry, Dick, but Sarah Palin has done more to wrench conservatism from the morbid grip of RINOism than any figure in our time. You are your establishment friends simply can’t stand a dynamic female reformist.

rrpjr on July 29, 2012 at 11:37 AM

Quite agree. Conservative women have for too many years had to be the Conservative torch bearers. Whether you’ve agreed with everything they stand for on every issue or note, Conservative women leaders seemed to be the few willing to take heat for principles. We can look to Walker and a lot of governors acting like Conservative heroes now, but the women never skipped a beat.

hawkdriver on July 29, 2012 at 11:47 AM

What kind of people will want to commit to public service for our country?

Cindy Munford on July 29, 2012 at 11:36 AM

I was thinking about that earlier when I heard what VP Cheney said.

I wouldn’t blame Sarah Palin if she told the entire GOP party to go eff themselves, then went back to Alaska to live in obscurity with her family for the rest of her life.

But then she’d be demonized for abandoning “the conservative cause.”

Of course she’s not going to do it because she’s a true patriot. Plus she’s not going to give her haters the satisfaction of thinking they ran her out of town, so to speak.

Here we go. I am in DC for the week…belly of the beast:

CBS: Awesome–eight libs and a Dem.

ABC: D, R, R, R, D, D, R, D

Fox: R, R, D, R, D

CNN: R, D, D, D and I do not know this Kantar fellow.

Not bad without NBC.

Jaibones on July 29, 2012 at 11:16 AM

For the record, NBC had all liberal Democrats this morning, just with sports in between.
