Romney calls Brian Williams a boring white guy

posted at 11:21 am on July 27, 2012 by Mary Katharine Ham

All right, I criticized Romney last night for his Olympics answer, but he deserves kudos for this moment.

Add a bit of this lighter touch to his slight Olympics critique (which wasn’t inaccurate, just clumsy), and he would have been totally fine.

Enjoy!

This segment actually aired the day before the one that got Mittens in trouble with the Brits. So Williams may have already known he was going to drop a bomb on Romney the next day when the next segment aired.

Williams is probably thinking: “laugh it up fuzzball”

It was really a great moment because if a “boring white guy” isn’t good enough for the VP slot, what in the hell is one doing reading us the nightly news from a major national network? In fact, isn’t NBC pretty much lily white?

I do read the comments, and I will continue to say he made a mistake when I think he made a mistake and commend him when he deserves it. His Olympics statement was goofy and clumsy, and he could have made the exact same point about security without being goofy and clumsy and enduring an international dust-up. Too bad he didn’t.

What?? A Republican candidate had the temerity to excercise a little verbal ju-jitsu on a Highly Respected news reader? What?!

I’m sure Williams was totally gobsmacked to find that, unlike 4 years ago, the Republican presidential candidate actually has some stones, and will call him on his calculated, biased “gotcha” questions. More, please.

Nobody cares. Americans certainly aren’t going to care about Romney’s comments concerning the Olympics. I wonder exactly where international Olympic relations rates in people’s importance of political issues. That might be the one thing that even Goreball Warming beats.

Actually, Williams set himself up, trying to get Romney into one of those Sarah Palin situations with Williams saying Romney’s VP list was looking for boring white guys, and Romney’s mastery of repartee showed he has a sense of humor, will not be boxed into one of those do you still beat your wife interviews, and he did it all quite respectfully…a lot more than the MSM has shown him.

Well seeing as Brian just found out about Fast and Furious just a few weeks ago, I would say he was way over his head on this interview…I just wish Mitt would stand up, walk around Brian, look perplexed, and than ask Brian…”Where is the string that the Obama campaign pulls?”

Every one of those questions is straight out of the campaign book…and mirror that with the interviews when Obama went over to Europe before his election, not one serious probing question.

Sorry, but I like Brian Williams, even if he is a Democrat. The short clip was a nice little humorous moment and not much more than that. I didn’t see any “gotcha” attempt in any of this.

Oh, and I’ve voted straight Republican ever since my first vote in 1964 for Barry Goldwater.
