Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:01 am on July 26, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Barack Obama has mostly avoided talking about the economy on the campaign trail, even though it’s by far and away the most important issue for voters in every poll taken this cycle. When he does talk about the economy, Obama usually fumbles the ball. First he told the White House press corps that “the private sector is doing fine” when it obviously is not, and then last week he told small business owners that “you didn’t build that — someone else made that happen” while arguing to hike their taxes.

This week is no exception.  As Obama returned once again to the economy to undo some of the damage with his “you didn’t build that” remark, he did a victory dance of sorts in Oakland:

“We tried that and it didn’t work,” Obama said of Mitt Romney’s proposed tax cuts and spending cuts, which he dismissed as a Bush-style “top down” economic policy. “Just like we’ve tried their plan, we tried our plan — and it worked,” he added later in the speech. “That’s the difference. That’s the choice in this election. That’s why I’m running for a second term.”

It worked? His plan promised that unemployment wouldn’t go above 8%.  It hasn’t gone below 8% since he put it in place.  His plan promised that the plan would increase GDP by 3.7% by the end of 2010.  We’re heading toward a GDP in the 1s, or possibly lower.  Obama’s plan promised to find 1.529 million jobs for women.  Instead, we’ve added only 2.412 million jobs since the start of the recovery in June 2009, and jobs for women over 16 years of age have only gone up 617,000.

I guess that’s Mission Accomplished in the era of Hope and Change, eh?

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Obama is so used to saying anything and having it accepted without question that he will pretty much say anything.

no, I am a freelance consultant and very much against certain types of gov workers parasitism. I just put the issue of corruption above most issues. this free markets vs socialist seems just a distraction for the same players to keep robbing us while little changes on the direction of the country.

Just “certain types”? Well, which types are offensive to you…and which are not? And, why?

You know, I would probably pay a bit more attention to your hysteria (as might others) if you ever did anything other than try your damnedest to tie the “libor scandal” to Romney. As it stands, you show yourself to be nothing but a partisan hack, desperately looking for a brush with which to smear your political enemies.

Lighten up, Francis.

Why isn’t that story going anywhere? I haven’t seen it outside of HA posters’ links. That should be the lead.

Seems that many folks like it when Obama calls them by their first name?

He cited Caldwell as saying “How could we do this or make this request with elections coming?” and then said the lieutenant general added, “He calls me Bill”

Zero is correct – his plan is working. To destroy the American economy turn America socialist. He just needs four more years to finalize it.

the ones that are offensive to me are the ones that produce little and spend most of their time in unions complaining and trying to get more $.

he, that is a an excellent description of HA, dkos, and many other political blogs out there. yes, my implication of romney was intentional to get attention of the political hacks that post in this blog.
I do have an axe to grind against big banks(romney and obama care little because i judged them as the same long time ago) and I would like to share my frustration with big bank corruption here in HA they block the story. very frustrating…

Ed, are you sure he didn’t say corpse? The media are the vultures who currently protect the carcass.

If he loses, they’ll be the first to eat him.

While you have a point, and many of us share your frustration with the banks, the gov’t, the politicians all milking the system, you, us, getting bailed out and rich, 3 items to consider:

1. Stay on topic. The Obamateurism feature is extraordinary in exposing the ridiculously obtuse Obama.

2. If you have such a peeve, write to tips@hotair.com or write to ed directly at ed@hotair.com

3. Leave us alone with your inane rants on the same, with no different results – we can’t make the threads you’re looking for.

Someone edited that video, right? I mean, there’s got to be an evil laugh right after “…and it worked.”

i will stop it, be back on this topic on appropriate threads if they ever come up. my sadness is that hot air was such a good site to make people angry about politics and I get the feeling that its guiding peoples anger to secondary issues while very important ones get neglected for very petty partisan reasons.

On item 1. you prove to be an undiscerning gnat. It is an incredible feature to point out what no other media will, that the CiC is a fantastic obtuse marionette.

Bushisms abounded. There were books on them. Look around. You are no more objective than you pretend to be. Plus, HA is not a leftist blog.

Schadenfreude on July 26, 2012 at 1:04 PM

nathor, to be sure, we love to smear our enemies, with their own caca. Obama provides plenty every time he opens his mouth. His brain is that of an underdeveloped narcissistic spoiled teenager. No more, no less.

translation: they built ” bush is an idiot” narrative and so we also have to do a negative narrative of obama also. after all, we are not a leftist blog.
ok, understood.

there are very good attack lines on obama, but these rants look more like hatred with very little political value.
