Palin, DeMint to rally for Ted Cruz in Houston on Friday

posted at 7:57 pm on July 25, 2012 by Allahpundit

In case you need more proof that Cruz has a very real chance of pulling this upset, he’s now got tea-party icons ready to spend political capital — in person — on pushing him over the top.

Sarah Palin is getting back on the campaign trail. She’ll hit the road this Friday at an evening rally for Ted Cruz, Texas candidate for the U.S. Senate, at the Woodlands, north of Houston, his campaign and a Palin friend confirmed for ABC News…

And it’s not just Palin. South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint will also be on hand for the 6 p.m. rally. Glenn Beck will be featured at another rally Thursday at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas and Rick Santorum will be campaigning with Cruz over the weekend, although the details are still being worked out…

The former Alaska governor has a stellar GOP primary endorsement record so far this cycle. She backed Orrin Hatch in his Senate primary in Utah, Richard Mourdock in his primary against Dick Lugar in Indiana, and helped Deb Fischer with her surprise victory in Nebraska. She still has not formally endorsed Mitt Romney nor joined him on the campaign trail.

Even in Texas, tea partiers are outnumbered by non-tea partiers — but not by much. According to PPP’s poll taken two weeks ago, fully 40 percent of the electorate identifies as TP and Cruz utterly crushes Dewhurst among them, 71/26. Dewhurst, meanwhile, leads 57/34 among the 50 percent of Texas Republicans who say they’re non-TPers. Inviting Palin and DeMint is thus a no-brainer: Not only is it a way to widen Cruz’s already gigantic lead among TPers, it’s a fire alarm for those who haven’t paid much attention to the race yet (are there any conservatives in Texas who haven’t?) to let them know they need to turn out next Tuesday. Not good enough? All right: The Tea Party Express is hosting a “radiothon” on Cruz’s behalf tonight at 9 p.m. with the entire Senate tea-party caucus as guests. National conservative all-stars are now all-in for the upstart. Except for, er, Huck.

As further reading, here’s National Journal with four signs that “Cruz-mentum” is taking hold in Texas. And if you’re still inclined to doubt, here’s how desperate a pro-Dewhurst group is to take him down before the polls open next week. Wow.

Why do we care what the ex-mayor of Wasilla, ex-part-time governor of Alaska have to do with the Texas senate race? Demint and Cruz are good guys, why do they need a second tier ex-politician to speak for them?

The artificial minimizing of Palin’s influence is just dumb. It doesn’t matter if she has no accomplishments whatever. It doesn’t matter if she was found drunk in the Caribbean with AP on vacation one year and just started showing up at rallies. She packs rallies, not empties them, and she’s massively influential. It gets tiresome reading about how little influence she has, or why she shouldn’t have any.

No one is required to like Palin. I don’t know why it’s so important for some people to keep other people from listening to Palin.

It’s not really a venue, it’s a largish open space park that we have here on Town Square. Probably the best they could do on short notice, though the stadium over behind Sams is currently empty, not sure if that can seat more people than can squeeze in to TS, but I think it could, though it’s not cheap, either. Plus, you can sit across the Waterway or even behind the park and be able to hear, assuming they let people on the northern side of the Waterway. They might not for security purposes.

No problem. At all. I have used it many ways and heard it used many ways.

Affectionate, as I sometimes call my wife and she does so herself, playfully. Her father is ethnic Russian, but her mother and that side of the family are some of the best yiddish speakers I know, and I know a good number. Her father actually speaks some, too :-)

So, no, despite some of the above ridiculous protestations, SHIKSA is the proper spelling and playful use in this thread.

Anyway, have to run out for a bit…

I’ve been to ‘Chicago-by-the-Sea’ once.

annoyinglittletwerp on July 25, 2012 at 10:55 PM

Now that’s downright mean.

-San Jacinto monument and the hallowed ground it commemorates

-Battleship Texas

-NASA

-The Astrodome, venue for the best Texxas Jam ever.

-Astro World

And Galveston is only fifty miles further down the road.

…you could top it off by living in Max Water’s or Hank Waxman’s or Nanny Pelosi’s district!

KOOLAID2 on July 25, 2012 at 10:44 PM

Fortunately, I live in Mary Bono Mack’s. She’s not terribly conservative, but she’s a Republican you can vote for without needing to decontaminate afterward.

J.E. Dyer on July 25, 2012 at 11:01 PM

I think Greg Abbott as his eye on that?

workingclass artist on July 25, 2012 at 10:55 PM

I think you could be correct. He’s stayed well out of this brouhaha.

Twerp, I’ll keep my humidity, I missed it last summer when there was zero rain. Sounds crazy, I know, but I have dry skin that drove me nuts when I lived in OK for college.

J.E. Dyer on July 25, 2012 at 11:01 PM

You do have that going for you.

I live in Eddie Bernice Johnson’s district. The only thing that keeps her from being goofier than Sheila Jackson Lee, is that EBJ cannot think well enough to spout off very often.

I’ve been to Galveston. The Gulf water was sooo warm-and of course I was calling out to the sharks.
Houston was like 100 in the shade+ humidity and the mall I was hanging out @ while my husband was in his meeting(The Galleria)was infested by muzzies.

I’ve always felt that Houston, and her surrounding areas, I grew up in the Cy Fair ISD, is a great place to live, but not always an obviously great destination. Unlike, my opinion, San Antonio or New Orleans, which are the opposite.

Please don’t forget Houston Grand Opera, a fine institution, or The Menil Collection, best little museum around.

Reagan converted people, Palin alienates people.

Tater Salad on July 25, 2012 at 10:16 PM

If Reagan had to deal with the current media things would have been very different. Ted Turner started CNN during the Iranian hostage debacle and when Reagan was elected he had a 24 hr platform to bash Reagan and Republicans in general. The media alienates viewers to Palin and had Reagan had to deal with the same crap who knows what would have happened.

It was still mean to call Houston another Chicago. I’ve been to both places and other than the U-505 and whatever they call the Sears building now, Chicago ain’t got much.

Houston does try and it used to be a “wide open” city before all the yankees invaded.

Tater Salad get his/her/its information from ABC News. Don’t try to confuse him/her/it with the facts.

I can really pick winnahs. LoL
*It’s the Willis Tower now-though locals refuse to call it that. The locals also refer to ‘Fields’-not ‘Macys’.

Opera? c’mon this is me giving praise to that other big Texas city at the other end of I-45. And museums? If it ain’t a machine museum, Mrs cozmo has to drag cozmo in. Unless it has dinosaurs.

Take the praise and be happy.

Heck, San Antonio is the opposite of New Orleans.

Now then, if you want a southern Chicago, New Orleans is what you would pick.

bw222 on July 25, 2012 at 11:15 PM

Before the yankees took over, you wouldn’t notice the illegals there.

I really liked Houston when it didn’t have zoning or strict building codes like other Texas cities had. Another thing that went away when the yankees captured Houston. Sam weeps for his namesake.

But it still beats Chicago!

That has some fine things to see as well. IIRC, the paddlewheel on the lake burned, but if the timing is right the bats leaving the Congress street bridge is cool and Camp Maybry is pretty neat. Unless you meet up with a nasty guard who doesn’t want you taking pictures of the artillery and planes on sticks by the running track.

Plenty of caves around there too.

Austin is a lovely city. Mt. Bonnell, Zilker Park, Barton Springs, The Oasis on Travis, our pretty pink capitol, etc., etc. There’s also some really great restaurants.

Cozmo, I’m an HGO fan, it’s one of the few things that will get me to drive all the way into the Houston.

While you are in Luckenbach, pick me up a T-shirt. Mine is wearing out.

Be sure to go to the Congress Street Bridge at dusk if you like bats – did not know it had been renamed for Ma Richards. Largest urban bat population in the world, not a huge bat fan myself but it’s a very interesting experience to watch & experience them when they come out at night. Mexican Free Bats, I believe.
