Mexican president to US: You know, you guys should really review your gun laws

posted at 2:01 pm on July 22, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Coming from the president of a country that’s seen at least 55,000 drug-and-gang-related deaths during his tenure, the blithe audacity is enough to make your head spin.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon condemned U.S. gun laws as “mistaken” and urged Washington to review them after a shooter killed 12 people and injured more than 50 others at a U.S. movie theater on Friday.

But Mexico’s president, who has repeatedly called on Washington to tighten gun controls to stop weapons flowing from the United States into the hands of Mexican drug cartels, said U.S. weapons policy needed a rethink after the killings.

“Because of the Aurora, Colorado tragedy, the American Congress must review its mistaken legislation on guns. It’s doing damage to us all,” Calderon said.

Calderon has been a constant critic of the United States’ gun laws, and is constantly blaming us for systemic drug violence in Mexico, but it seems to me that the Mexican president consistently demonstrates an attitude toward the United States that is nothing short of insolent.

Where does he get off? For years, Calderon’s been backhandedly criticizing us for our attempts to stop illegal immigration and secure our border — he wants a porous border so that people can move north and send U.S. dollars south, but if any weapons make it across this porous border into the hands of Mexican drug cartels, its the fault of the Second Amendment? He effectively denies law-abiding Mexican citizens the right to carry arms, but somehow the country is flooded with criminals running amok with them? He wants to sue American gun manufacturers, but is oddly quiet when the Obama administration willfully puts weapons in the hands of Mexican cartels?

No, just no. His own leadership and policies have consistently failed to address the issue, and now we’re reduced to hearing sneering little remarks about how the world’s problems are somehow our fault.

El Presidente Calderon, with all due respect. STFD and STFU. Get your own house in order before you even think of trying to tell us how to get ours in order.

God, I love the smell of burning PC! It’s like bacon!

Aardvark on July 22, 2012 at 3:21 PM

STFU Calderon. You people have at the LEAST 3 times the gun-crime than the USA does and some of the worst gun crime statistics in the world, yet you critique the USA? If you were half as smart as you think you are, you would ARM your citizenry so your people can fight back against the drug cartels. But you are too drunk with power against your citizens to ALLOW them to protect themselves against you and your corrupt government.

“Because of the Aurora, Colorado tragedy, the American Congress must review its mistaken legislation on guns. It’s doing damage to us all,” Calderon said.

I believe that would be CTMDUMF. I’ll let you run Google Translate to figure the actual words out :-)

Steve Eggleston on July 22, 2012 at 3:21 PM

The simplest explanation for that is that he knew about it, despite their official protestation that they didn’t.

Dusty on July 22, 2012 at 2:58 PM

You are probably right. So its all a dog and pony show…as usual.

sharrukin on July 22, 2012 at 3:22 PM

If Congress wants to do something about guns being run into Mexico, they would impeach Eric Holder.

Steve Eggleston on July 22, 2012 at 3:23 PM

I wonder if the Dems gave him another standing ovation after hearing this…

H.E. Pennypacker on July 22, 2012 at 3:27 PM

OH yeah. Because all those gun laws stop the cartels in mexico from owning guns and killing thousands of their own people. He’s got a lot of balls.

Screw the mexicans. I no longer have any respect for any of them, hardworking and well meaning or not. I just can’t muster an ounce of respect for a people that vote themselves into slavery over and over again, then trample OUR laws and sovereignty while demanding we respect theirs.

Blow me.

Wolfmoon on July 22, 2012 at 3:27 PM

So they simultaneously blame US consumption of drugs for their drug-producing problem and blame the production and sale of guns in the US for their gun consumption problem.

Either way, we’re to blame. Must be nice to never be responsible for anything.

29Victor on July 22, 2012 at 3:30 PM

This is why I no longer go to Mexico or feel for the Mexican citizens. The cowards that they are run to the US instead of fixing Mexico. Mr. Calderon you can’t even govern Mexico. I suggest that you concentrate on fixing your own country that is bleeding and blooding its citizens.

Viva Mexico! IF, you have the cajones.

fewenuff on July 22, 2012 at 3:31 PM

“Because of the Aurora, Colorado tragedy, the American Congress must review its mistaken legislation on guns. It’s doing damage to us all,” Calderon said.

.
.
Agreed.

Let’s rescind ALL gun-control legislation enacted since 1960.

.
(Didn’t someone else already suggest that on a previous, recent thread ?)

PappyD61 on July 22, 2012 at 3:42 PM

Yeah, and Mexico, you should look at your own immigration laws before getting mad at the US for ours, which we don’t much enforce anyway.

emerson7 on July 22, 2012 at 3:47 PM

Someone should take Calderon to Juarez and then ask him how that gun-control thing’s working for his country.

Adios, Felipe. Don’t let the Los Pinos door hit your sorry butt on the way out.

TMOverbeck on July 22, 2012 at 3:53 PM

I can see why he doesn’t care about 300 dead Mexicans. There’s 55,000 all together.

Slade73 on July 22, 2012 at 3:58 PM

This makes one wonder if perhaps Operation Fast and Furious was done not only with the full knowledge of Holder and Obama, but also with the complicity of Calderon, all for the purpose of overturning the 2nd amendment.

Ordinary American on July 22, 2012 at 3:59 PM

With Mexico’s law of NO GUNS for its citizenry at all—ONLY 56,000 of their citizens have been murdered in the past 5 years. Compared to murders in the U.S.—Mexico’s murder rate is WORST than the U.S. murder rate plus ALL the U.S. soldier-deaths in two wars–Iraq and Afghanistan!!!!!!!!!

In other words, GUN LAWS AND GUN CONTROL DO NOT STOP MURDERS, NOR DO THEY BRING THE YEARLY MURDER RATES “DOWN!”

DixT on July 22, 2012 at 4:02 PM

so sad those people died, now enough of this Batman hoopla and let’s talk about Gun Control.

Slade73 on July 22, 2012 at 4:05 PM

Every other nation on the earth has a suggestion on how to improve American but oddly none have ever come close to achieving our greatness, when we need help all we need is to follow our own advise, just not the advise of the American moonbat society who so kindly put us in this deep dark hole, we’re still digging.

Speakup on July 22, 2012 at 4:05 PM

I have no respect for this a$$hat. My heart goes out to those Mexican and American citizens who have been murdered, tortured and terrorized as a result of this moron’s inability to defeat narcoterrorists. You have bigger problems to deal with, Felipe, really.

Of course, we could always invade Mexico if we can figure out what to do with it. Mexican drug cartel incursions over our border happen all the time. Maybe it’s time we return the favor on a very large scale.

it seems to me that the Mexican president consistently demonstrates an attitude toward the United States that is nothing short of insolent.

And when he displayed his insolence before the U.S. Congress, they lept to their feet and applauded him for it.

He’s an arrogant POS, but at least he protects the interests of his country, which is a lot more than we can say about our president or legislators.

AZCoyote on July 22, 2012 at 4:38 PM

El Presidente, cayate la boca, por favor!! Of course, Mexico does not have a gun problem (unless you want the to count thousands of square miles of outlaw territory where Mexican police dare not go and the recent 35-40,000 drug related murders.) Such hypocrisy is mind boggling.

My Theory:

Calderon knew about Fast and Furious and kept it secret from his own people and the rest of his government. He helped Obama by coming here and making speeches about guns being bought in the US going to the drug cartels as a front for Obama/Holder’s plan all along. It was always all about justifying GUN CONTROL. You know, “under the radar” and all that. Sarah Brady knows she sold her soul to the devil for her ideology, and she’s lying NOW that Obama didn’t tell her that he was working on “gun control” but “under the radar,” like she originally stated, but has now tried to deny.

At any rate, Calderon makes these statements because he knows Obama agrees. They got rid of Calderon in Mexico; I hope we will GET RID OF OBAMA in November.

mountainaires on July 22, 2012 at 4:55 PM

Felipe Calderon doesn’t appear to have a problem with Fast and Furious. Where’s the OUTRAGE? Over 200 Mexican citizens killed with weapons supplied illegally by the US government?

Only thing Calderon is interested in is the money illegals send back to Mexico each month. The only thing that tops that source of dollars is the sale of oil.

Oh, yeah. The DOJ informed the AG of Mexico that any continued criticism of F&F “might” result in the withholding of $500,000 in drug enforcement aid.

GarandFan on July 22, 2012 at 5:00 PM

Anyone have any doubts as to how Travis, Bowie, Crockett and others from the Alamo would respond to this Mexican?

Deano1952 on July 22, 2012 at 5:02 PM

With Mexico’s law of NO GUNS for its citizenry at all—ONLY 56,000 of their citizens have been murdered in the past 5 years.

Mexicans have the right to own shotguns, and small caliber guns, and they’re free to sit at home and stare at them unloaded. But they have to get a travel permit each time one is taken somewhere or used.

allahallahoxenfree on July 22, 2012 at 5:22 PM

Who does this PENDEJO think he is. His country has some of the toughest gun laws in the world. The ONLY gun store in Mexico is in Mexico City and is run by the Fedarales. The average Mexican citizen has NO chance of owning a legal handgun or rifle. As a result, about 35,000 Mexicans have been murdered by the cartels in the last 7 years. The tally includes approximately 800 killings after torture and more than 300 decapitations. Cities like Monterrey, Juarez, Matamoros and Nuevo Laredo are war zones. The state of Durango is like Beruit. 10,000 killed this year alone. Obama is more interested in arming the cartels to change the narative about gun controlin the US than he is about dead Mexicans. Take that thought to the voting booth with you Amigos…

Kuffar on July 22, 2012 at 5:46 PM

We need gun control in movies and video games!!

Just like we eliminated cigaret smoking from movies, but not from our stores. We need to eliminate guns from movies and videos. Maybe if movies were more intellectual, like The Wizard of Oz and folks got to talking about how it applies to our federal banking system, our country would not be in such deep doo doo.

Folks should gain their acquaintance with guns thru hunting or target shooting — even if is with a automatic weapon.

Well then Presidente Calderon, you won’t have any problem with us telling you how @#$%’d up your country is then with its denial of citizens the right to protect themselves, the rampant corruption, and the encouragement you give to citizens to violate US immigration laws?

Ever heard the phrase, “Before taking the splinter out of your brother’s eye, remove the plank from your own eye first”? Yeah, didn’t think so.

AZfederalist on July 22, 2012 at 6:44 PM

Psst, el Presidente: on the chance that straw purchasers may not translate well into Mexican, the term isn’t describing the guys who supply the bedding to your principal means of transportation.

Barnestormer on July 22, 2012 at 6:55 PM

To whom it may concern down south in Mexico,

Had Spain and the Mexicans later not had guns and we Apache none Mexico would have never been.

So pure this Mexican President. He runs a country with huge natural resources, lots of cheap labor, yet 50% of his people seek to escape his gun grabing Country.

Many sell themselves to “coyote human slave traders” just to get the hell out of his “Commie One Party” country.

One of the first things that Mexican illegals do when they get into the U.S., is steal an ID and get to a gun store and buy a gun.

On the other hand the Mexican President he and his “Army” trained and set the zetas ( Former Special Forces troops) on his own people. They now are the second most powerful force in Mexico.

Seems what goes around comes around,

Mexican goverment had $2.00 per set of Apache ears bounty on us back in the 1800′s.

For you Mexican officals who read this U.S. blog, seek within for solutions.

We of the U.S. are not your problem.

What you do to our border is our problem.

Mangus Colorados family person.

We remember you still.

Hey Calderon deal with your own glass house, also Calderon maybe if your country was not the SHIT HOLE it is, maybe your citizens would not be risking life and limb to flee it. Calderon maybe you might want to stop your own citizens from chopping the heads off their fellow citizens, and maybe you might also want to think about stopping them from shooting each other in your “gun free country”. In the mean time Mr. Calderon STFU and go to HELL.
