Boehner: President Obama has “checked out”

posted at 7:21 pm on July 19, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Yes, President Obama has seemed rather preoccupied lately — and when I say lately, I mean, oh, I don’t know — maybe the past year or so.

Speaker John Boehner noted today that Republicans are “the only ones in town who’ve offered a plan to address both the threat to our security that’s posed by the defense sequester, and the threat to our economy posed by the coming tax hike.” President Obama, on the other hand, “hasn’t lifted a finger to work with the Congress on jobs or to resolve these big issues.” Boehner noted: the president “doesn’t even have time to meet with his own jobs council. He’s just out there campaigning every day and looking for somebody else to blame.”

Does anybody else find it kind of hilarious (but I mean that in my usual “I only laugh to keep from weeping” way) that President Obama is touring the country campaigning, and the biggest platform of said campaign seems to be that we need to raise taxes on people making more than $250,000 dollars? Is this really becoming the most-talked-about election-year issue? A measure that won’t even amount to a miniscule drop in the bucket of decreasing our federal deficit and will negatively impact our long-struggling economy? What is this man doing? Oh wait, I forgot, I really should be more fair — he’s also been telling crowds in Virginia, Ohio, and Florida about his plans to increase government spending, keep funding green-energy boondoggles, how Mitt Romney’s perfectly legal offshore bank account make him the most unpatriotic, deceptive rich person evah, and that enterprising American individuals should really stop being so independently-minded… so, that’s something, I guess.

Meanwhile, back in D.C., there are serious time-sensitive issues at stake. While all incumbent politicians are of course allowed to take some time to make the case for their reelection, you’re also the president of the United States — preside already.

Barring Presidential leadership soon, the Pentagon will be walloped with another deep and disproportionate funding cut—around 9% across the board, or nearly $50 billion a year for a decade. Under last year’s Budget Control Act, President Obama and Congress need to agree on new federal savings to stop these cuts from hitting on January 2.

Like an audience at a horror movie, nearly everyone paying attention is yelling “watch out!” into a political and media void. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey calls sequestration “an unacceptable risk” that will “increase the likelihood of conflict” in a world with a weaker America. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says it’s “unworkable” and “a disaster” that will “hollow out the force and inflict severe damage to our national defense.” …

Defense shouldn’t be immune from cuts, but Mr. Obama’s policy choices are turning America into an entitlement state with a shrinking military—in other words, Europe. The U.S. would be left with the smallest Navy since World War I, the smallest ground forces in 70 years, and at just over 2.5% of GDP the smallest defense budget since Pearl Harbor. …

Mr. Obama knows all this from his own Pentagon’s warnings, so why is he inviting a crack-up? The answer is that he wants to use GOP concerns about defense to bludgeon Republicans into accepting a huge tax increase. Republicans were unwise to accept the sequestration deal while leaving entitlements off the table, thus handing Mr. Obama more leverage.

OT/

Is there a personality that compliments a narcissist? I’ve noticed — sparing the book on it — that when you say to yourself, “so,” your associations change, your life changes. It’s like the world shifts around you. You don’t have to do anything, it just happens. All you did was say, from now on, “so.” This shows up in the whole “get dressed for success” thing as well, and in other places. I’m just thinking about Obama standing up, and saying ridiculous things about the level of the seas, and people teaching their children to sing songs praising his name. Obama is one thing, but is there a kind of personality that is attracted or responsive to it? Is there something to call — snark aside — a person that suddenly jumps behind a microphone and declares him a messiah?

CW on July 19, 2012 at 8:00 PM

Ordinarily I’d be right on board with that “preside already‘, but given the fact that Obama is so bent on issuing Executive Orders and bypassing congress, and thereby the American people, even when he breaks the law as he did with the gutting of welfare reform, I’m not altogether convinced that we aren’t all actually better off when he’s off selfishly looking out after his own interests rather than in Washington D.C. playing king, ruling by decree.

thatsafactjack on July 19, 2012 at 8:00 PM

The boy king hasn’t “checked out” he’s been busy walking his dog.

Throughout his presidency, Obama has spent an average of 138 minutes a week in economic meetings. For comparison, consider that dog owners spend an average of 130 minutes a week walking their dogs Source

Or preparing just the right seasoning.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Obama knows he’s got a slim chance of winning in November and he’s going to do everything he can to absolutely destroy the economy between now and next January. Boehner doesn’t think Obama looks like the other Presidents on the dollar bills. Boehner has money offshore. He mistreats his dog. He wants to make people afraid of Obama. He’ll say, “and, by the way, did you notice Obama is black”. Boehner only cares for his rich friends, and the oil companies that make you pay so much for gas. Boehner uses the roads and bridges, but he doesn’t understand the debt he owes for using them. Boehner was born into a poor family, and worked hard to get where he is now, but he doesn’t understand how much he owes to others. He’s lucky. He won life’s lottery, and now he’s criticizing Obama, mostly because Obama is black. That’s racism.

President Obama has “checked out”

Not quite, but the bags are in the elevator on the way down. All the way down.

It may be better for Barry to stay “check out” for now, otherwise, he’ll bring in the tax and spend policy Hollande just brought in.

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/french-lawmakers-abolish-tax-breaks-boost-taxes-rich-204249429.html

Lawmakers later voted to back an emergency rise in the ISF wealth tax applying to taxpayers with a net worth of more than 1.3 million euros ($1.6 million) and which is expected to bring in an extra 2.3 billion euros in revenues this year.

They also approved a tightening of the inheritance tax to reduce the exemption ceiling from 159,000 euros per child to 100,000 euros, the creation of a three percent surtax on cash dividends and the doubling of a tax rate on financial transactions to 0.2 percent.

More fiscal steps promised by Hollande, including a 75 percent tax rate on annual incomes in excess of a million euros, are expected to be introduced next year.

Note, on top of tax on income, Hollande will take 3% of asset over 1.6 million. Those assets already had been taxed once or twice.

If re-elected, you can be sure Barry will try similar grab.

Actually, given Boehner’s and McConnell’s utter lack of balls and ability to do the job they were elected to do (and paid to do), I expect Manchurian to enact a few more EOs before elections. Given complete silence from Romney on Manchurian’s EOs even if Romney wins it seems more than plausible that a number of these EOs will stand, if not all.

If our media would hold Obama accountable, he would be forced to address these things. However, they are in campaign mode for him from here till election day. They’ve been propping him up since he took office and they are stuck on stupid. We’re so screwed if Obama wins reelection. This election is the most important of our generation.

“Where are the Maldives?”

slickwillie2001 on July 19, 2012 at 8:23 PM

And so, to skip top the chase, I clicked it for a quick refresher, and then I remembered why I never click it and hate it when people link it. I saw this:

It is also the country with the lowest natural highest point in the world, at 2.4 metres (7 ft 10 in);[11] the Maldives’ forecast inundation is a great concern for the Maldivian people.

And wondered what “the Maldives’ forecast inundation” might mean, because I couldn’t remember what their deal was, hence the original surfing for refreshing information.

Then I read this:

Environmental issues [...]

According to the president of Nauru, the Maldives are ranked the third most endangered nation due to flooding from climate change.[39] In March and April 2012 the previous President of the Maldives Mohamed Nasheed stated

“If carbon emissions were to stop today, the planet would not see a difference for 60 to 70 years,” Nasheed said. “If carbon emissions continue at the rate they are climbing today, my country will be underwater in seven years.”

… and I soldiered on, in cursory fashion, now remembering what the deal was with this place, to this demilitarized zone pretending to be an encyclopedia entry:

The evidence that there is any sea rise threat to Maldives is disputed. A study by controversial Swedish sea level commentator Nils-Axel Mörner suggested that sea levels had, in fact, fallen over time.[51][52] This conclusion was later refuted.[53] The evidence that sea levels are rising has been clearly established by the use of satellite and sea level buoys. The average, as per 2012, is 3.1mm per year. See.[54]

And I have no one to blame but myself.

And you.

I’ve been waiting for Boehner to check in!! He’s the Speaker of the House for pity sake. DO SOMETHING other than whine and agree with Obama/Reid/McConnell.

I hope to see a new Speaker elected in 2013!!!

Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said “We are all just prisoners here, of our own device”
And in the master’s chambers,
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can’t kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door

I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
“Relax, ” said the night man,
“We are programmed to receive.
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave!

Latest poll inched but until we see a 5-10 point Romney lead they can stay their course. They won last time campaigning on a cloud of fluffy nothingness. This time they have high unemployment to leverage sgainst fat cats. Note all the halleluhiahs on that tape where he says “you didn’t build that”. The takers are still solidly in his corner and there’s a lot more of them now. And who here thinks the extremist cell that infiltrated the White House wouldn’t be just fine with massive automatic defense cuts?

The Democrats are a one trick pony. I wonder what would be the next thing on their tax the rich agenda if they were to get the income tax increase on those earning $250k or more.

What is their next trick…. they one have one at a time. The first trick was ObamaCare, next income tax, next….

Unfortunately their tricks are killing the country.

Obama can check out any time he wants, but he never seems to leave.

The Rogue Tomato on July 20, 2012 at 9:37 AM

What is this man doing?

Easy question. He’s continuing to do what he never stopped back in 2008: He’s campaigning.

That’s the only thing he and his minions know how to do. They are exceptional speechwriters and he’s above average at delivering them. That was enough to win last time around, back when he had no track record.

Remember what happened after the 2008 election results were in the books? Obama broke out his comical “Office of the President Elect” signage almost immediately. But everything he did from that point forward rarely deviated from how he had campaigned. After assuming office, he continued to appear in campaign style backdrops — he probably continued to use the same sets.

Which makes me wonder: Has anyone checked to see if he had the government purchase or maybe rent those sets? I wouldn’t be surprised.
