Obama spokesperson: Er, yeah, maybe jumping on that “felony” thing was a little hasty

posted at 5:21 pm on July 13, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

As I posted earlier, the hot new liberal-attack meme, Could Romney Be An Actual Felon?, is already old and busted, and now Team Obama just looks pathetically desperate. I want to be very careful about underestimating Obama’s campaign, but the fact that they so quickly and unscrupulously seized on something so wildly dubious makes me wonder whether they’ve got any new attack-ideas left in reserve for the long haul to November.

While I highly doubt that Mitt Romney will receive the straightforward apology for which he asked yesterday after Team Obama decided to run with the “felony” thing, at least one Obama campaign spokeswoman tried to create some distance from it. An actual apology would be admission of misconduct, so that’s obviously a no-go,but maybe if they just back away, real slow and quiet-like, nobody will notice:

President Obama’s campaign spokeswoman on Air Force One backed away from yesterday’s suggestion that Mitt Romney had committed “a felony” by allegedly misrepresenting his relationship with Bain Capital on documents submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

“[I]f he did violate, if he did mislead the SEC, there could be — that could raise questions, there could be legal questions that are raised about that,” Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said today.  “We’re not the ones who can answer that.”

You certainly could answer that — by oh, I don’t know, checking the facts, maybe — but if you don’t want to answer that, then don’t jump on the media bandwagon that’s insinuating it.

Obama surrogate Ed Rendell, the former Pennsylvania governor who’s been known to answer questions about Team O’s attacks on Mitt Romney just a little too truthfully for their tastes, conceded as much on MSNBC this morning. “…All this attack may be hurting the president’s brand a little bit, too. Like, I think our supporters went a little bit too far with the felony business. … I’m not sure it does us well to be saying it. It’s okay if the press says it.”

Lol, actually, no, it’s not possible. Every MSM poll out there showing Obama with a lead had to use a HUGE SAMPLING ADVANTAGE to Democrats to get there. Apparently the favorite demographic being used by pollsters such as Pew Research or Ipsos or any number of others is 24 to 26% Republicans.

Seriously? Exit polls in 2010 had us at 36% and now we are only 24%? Can you just imagine how the Left and their lackies in the media would scream if Rasmussen published a poll with 9% more Republicans than Democrats? There would be cries of FRAUD from every rooftop.

And yet Democratic leaning pollsters (read, all of them except Rasmussen) do it every day.

While I highly doubt that Mitt Romney will receive the straightforward apology for which he asked yesterday after Team Obama decided to run with the “felony” thing, at least one Obama campaign spokeswoman tried to create some distance from it.

BS! The boy king himself is doubling down with the “insinuation” that Romney did something illegal.

Obama: Romney should answer Bain questions

“My understanding is that Mr. Romney attested to the SEC, multiple times, that he was the chairman, CEO and president of Bain Capital and I think most Americans figure if you are the chairman, CEO and president of a company that you are responsible for what that company does,” Obama said.

Obama told Scott Thuman of WJLA, the ABC affiliate in the Washington, D.C. area, that Romney “absolutely” must answer questions about about his tenure at Bain and whether it continued past 1999 — when Romney has said in the past he left — to 2002, as Securities and Exchange Commission documents suggest.

“If he aspires to being president, one of the things you learn is, you are ultimately responsible for the conduct of your operations, that’s probably a question that he’s going to have to answer and I think that’s a legitimate part of the campaign,” Obama said in the interview, which was conducted earlier Friday in Virginia Beach, Va.

The Obama camp should be careful about tossing around the “felony” verbiage.

The more they do this the more pay-back they can expect.

Mitt is playing to win. Republican opponents have commented on his ruthlessness.

If the Left thinks it’s acceptable to assail him as a “felon”, something no one could – currently – do to BO, they might be surprised. For Mitt’s campaign retribution should be as easy as smacking a 4 yr old on the butt and sending him off to bed without dinner.

Hmmm, it seems to me this line of attack by Obama’s campaign is even stupider for reasons they’re not even aware of (since NOBODY gets to see Obama’s college application forms). There’s a lot of speculation about the details and what if any special treatment his application got (foreign student, affirmative action, etc…) and other questions about his SSN being a CT issue and that trip to Pakistan (which passport was used for that trip?) Now these are all ‘Donald Trump’ questions and I love that categorization, but it’ll bite both ways.

If Donald Trump actually succeeded in getting Obama to release a document, why let up? Mitt should go after him hammer and fricken tong 24/7 on the transparency issue (and use Inigo’s clip from Princess Bride please: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-b7RmmMJeo

“What kind of president would have a campaign that says something like that about the nominee of another party?” Romney said. “This is reckless and absurd on his part, and it’s something that’s beneath his dignity. I hope he recognizes that even fellow Democrats have said that.

“Look – the president needs to talk about the direction he’d take the country, and stop these kinds of ads and attacks that are so disparate from what the American people want to talk about,” Romney concluded, adding later that the president “has demeaned the leadership which he should be bringing to this country.”

I still want him to call it GUTTER POLITICS. But CBS, like ABC, went with the “Romney demands Obama’s apology” headline. This is spinning out of control for Barack.

Oooh, and on CNN Romney says:

Presented with Cutter’s felony suggestion, Romney asked if that is “really what’s expected from the campaign of the sitting president of the United States?”

“Is this the level that the Obama campaign is willing to stoop to? Is this up to the standards expected of the presidency of the United States?” he asked. “It’s disgusting, it’s demeaning it’s something which I think the president should take responsibility for and stop.”

LOL! Did lightning strike him dead? I’m not going to finish my thought on that…..

Incorporate this into their campaign somehow.

“We don’t need to lie about our opponent. We just debate the issues.”

Today: “Er, yeah, maybe jumping on that “felony” thing was a little hasty.”

Tomorrow: “We never said that.”

The Alfred E. Neuman defense.

Liam on July 13, 2012 at 6:37 PM

I want to be very careful about underestimating Obama’s campaign, but the fact that they so quickly and unscrupulously seized on something so wildly dubious makes me wonder whether they’ve got any new attack-ideas left in reserve for the long haul to November.

Dude. It was either this or try to bring back Seamus. THEY’RE DONE.
