Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:01 am on July 12, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Early in his presidency, Barack Obama had quite a few vetting blunders — appointing people who had tax problems (Tim Geithner, Tom Daschle), corruption probes (Bill Richardson), and so on. It doesn’t appear anything has improved on Team Obama. Last week, Obama had local businessman Daniel Potkanowicz introduce him at a Youngstown, Ohio rally — and the local CBS affiliate noticed something oddly familiar about him:

An Ohio man who says he once lost his job and introduced President Barack Obama at a rally on Friday had been accused of stealing trade secrets by a former boss.

Court records show that Daniel Potkanowicz and a business partner in the Youngstown area were ordered to pay $500,000 to Clearview Window & Door after a judge ruled in 2009 that they had violated trade secrets.

The man who took Potkanowicz to court couldn’t believe his eyes:

Richard Albright, owner of Clearview, couldn’t believe Potkanowicz would be allowed to introduce the president.

“I’m wondering who put him up there,” Albright told The Vindicator. “He was involved in a scandal, and he’s introducing the president.”

Well, the local station explained the rigorous selection method used:

Potkanowicz now works for Summer Garden Food Manufacturing, a company Obama toured on Friday. He says the president’s campaign selected him to speak after talking with management there.

But just remember — the rest of us have to show picture-ID to get to see Obama attack Republicans for requiring photo-ID verification at the voting booth. (via JWF and Instapundit)

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

What’s the big deal? A crooked businessman introduced a crooked Chicago politician; what could be more natural?

radjah shelduck on July 12, 2012 at 8:13 AM

Birds of a feather and all that. This is nothing new for Obama of course. It’s just business as usual and no amount of taint on anybody near the president is cause for alarm or speculation. With only 4 months remaining before the election though, I do wonder if/when something happens that escapes the suppression ability of the MSM and splats like a giant bug up against the windshield of the non-politically informed public, how they’ll react when it becomes obvious the media has been lying to them along with Obama. It looks like the trust level is already at record lows, but as we’ve seen there’s always room to dig deeper.

I don’t have any kids, but my sister does. She told me they (she and her husband) were “required” to fill out paperwork for SSNs for their kids at the hospital. Perhaps our benevolent government just wants to make sure all its citizens will be provided for?

As for this OOTD, I give it a “meh”. Not that it’s not legit, just that it’s weak for this WPOTUS.

“required” to fill out paperwork for SSNs for their kids at the hospital.

Same here in the People’s Republic of California, as long ago as 28 yrs with our first ankle-biter.

socalcon on July 12, 2012 at 8:28 AM

I think Potkanowicz got stuck with it. He was in the meeting when they asked who wanted to introduce Hopester the Changeling, but he was too far from the door and didn’t get a good start.

Same here. Had to get the paperwork rolling on their SSN while in the hospital (4 kids).

Government found out they were losing so much tax money.

If you read “Freakenomics” there is a chapter where he tells about a year when 15 million American kids suddenly came up missing. It was when the gubment started demanding SSN for your kids on the tax return paperwork. No more phantom kids.

Those phantom kids would have grown up to be democrats anyway.

“I’m wondering who put him up there,” Albright told The Vindicator. “He was involved in a scandal, and he’s introducing the president.”

In my opinion, it appears that this administration is the most scandalous administration in the history of the United States.

Questions:

How many people were assigned by the media to vet Sarah Palin the candidate?

How many people were assigned by the media to vet Barack Obama the candidate?

How many people were assigned by the media to vet Sarah Palin’s book, “Going Rogue”?

How many people were assigned by the media to vet Barack Obama/Bill Ayers’ book, “Dreams From My Father”?

If you read the book “Freakenomics” theres a chapter about when, suddenly, 15 million American kids vanished . . . just disappeared without a trace.

It was when the gubment started demanding that kids SSN be on the 1040 tax return forms when you fill them out. Realized that they were losing too much money because of the “phantom” kids.

Those phantom kids would have grown up to be democrats anyway. They are probably still on the voter rolls.

By Phil Willon, Catherine Saillant and Abby Sewell, Los Angeles Times

July 12, 2012

Facing the same financial stressors that pushed San Bernardino toward bankruptcy, cities across California are slashing day-to-day services and taking other drastic actions to skirt a similar fiscal collapse.

For some, it may not be enough.

San Bernardino on Tuesday became the third California city to seek bankruptcy protection in the last month and, while no one expects the state to be consumed by municipal insolvencies, other cities teeter on the abyss.

“Some cities may not go into a bankruptcy, but they may dissolve. They may cease to exist.”

If you know any Independents or even reasonable Democrats take stories like this and send it to them and ask them if THEY WANT MORE OF THIS?

God help us save this country.

JimK on July 12, 2012 at 8:11 AM

Exactly! Stealing half a million only makes you worthy of introducing Obama at a rally. Corzine stole a billion, and he’s raising funds for Obama. As James Cagney once said in a movie: “Never steal anything small.”

Gladtobehere on July 12, 2012 at 9:04 AM

The guy was a big bundler. You know, Obammy, only likes the ones who bring the money. How long after the visit to Summer Garden will we see them go out of business? We should start a pool.
