Hot Air VP Survey: July Edition

posted at 2:41 pm on July 11, 2012 by Patrick Ishmael

It’s getting close to that time. Questions about the survey? Send ‘em here.

Also if the survey doesn’t pop up immediately, wait about 10 seconds, and then try refreshing. Of all things, slow survey loading is a Google (!) issue. Nonetheless, apologies for any slowness you experience.

Criticizing “Dante” for being immature entirely misses the majority here who are far more so than he or she is.

Lourdes on July 11, 2012 at 5:15 PM

The difference is they do it out of humor, juvenile though it may seem. The intent is still good-natured.

He, on the other hand, consistently comes across as a jerk, and that’s his intent.

It’s like listening to a squealing fan belt.

cozmo on July 11, 2012 at 5:06 PM

Speaking of immature, that about sums it up as well as anything.

Lourdes on July 11, 2012 at 5:16 PM

Do tell. Just something else you are unable to comprehend.

Kind of like when people warned you about embracing birtherism.

Can we have another of your marathon meltdowns?

And another proof of the problem.

You’re obviously confused about the definition of “troll”, now, aren’t you? Sincerity, too, and bitterness, those are two issues you might want to explore in your analysis of those “sides” you think are operating here.j

Good luck, cozmo, I hope you come to some available senses at some time sooner than later. Have a nice day.

It’s not well intended. If you think it’s “humor” and “well intended,” then you aren’t reading the comments, truly.

Threatening people, all those ridiculous pejoratives, “warning” others and it goes downhill from there.

It’s a case of some disturbed people with access to the internet, that’s all it is.

If the criteria is “being a ‘jerk,’” here, well, “Dante” is mild by comparison with some of the rest.

Bmore on July 11, 2012 at 5:37 PM

Has anyone here declared that Jindal “is a foreigner”?

Lourdes on July 11, 2012 at 4:08 PM

No.

Dante on July 11, 2012 at 4:12 PM

I asked that question because another commenter here had earlier declared that the Constitution (Founding Fathers ‘just didn’t want foreigners’ or something) states that “no foreigners in the Presidency” (I paraphrased something by user “Bluray”)…and then there was also this:

Jindal is not a foreigner, he is eligible to be President.

Bluray on July 11, 2012 at 4:07 PM

I pointed out that the word, “foreigners” isn’t in the Constitutional reqs. for the Executive Branch. That the req.s stated there were straightforward, unambiguous, brief and clear. Nothing mentioning “foreigners”…

YET THAT’S the “cultural interpretation” being applied by some (here and elsewhere) which is a Progressive one, from people in both Parties, that, what the Founders “meant” was that they “don’t want foreigners” or that there’s some animus toward “foreigners” (in contemporary terms, “immigrants”).

They INTERPRET the Executive Branch requirements as some sort of “prejudice against immigrants” and have gone about denigrating the actual INTENT by the FOUNDERS as it’s expressed, why and how.

It’s not about “not wanting foreigners” (read, “immigrants” today) but about inherent loyalty to this nation versus mutliple nations or other nations. Being “natural born” or “born to” citizens conveys a quality that is distant from “other nations” by sheer heritage alone.

AND THIS IS PROVEN again and again by people in the US today who hold dual citizenship, are perhaps born here but to non-citizens, they then go about insisting that our nation be modified to accommodate their “foreign” understandings of what the nation is or should be and Sotomayor and Kagan, and Obama, are prime examples of this condition. Their “loyalties,” then, are questionable if only on a fine-line basis, but still not securely dedicated to the U.S.A.

I do think it takes at least two generations of US Citizenship in parentage/ancestry to raise individuals here who have no question of loyalty to elsewhere, if only by cultural affects.

And while divided loyalties may be just fine and dandy as to the general population, when it comes to the Presidency, Vice-Presidency, it’s a critical matter as to the conditions of our nation.

Obama has proven that problem to be a real one.

I guess Dante never did answer the straight up and simple question I posed. He’s bad that way. Likes to run his mouth a lot about what the rest of us need to do though so there’s that. As far as the Constitutional issue you all have been discussing. It is not settled law. There is still an open question as to the interpretation of Native/ Natural. I can’t say as to whether there are issues for Jindal in this regard. Neither can any of you.

Bmore on July 11, 2012 at 5:52 PM

But we CAN rely on the resources used by the Founders to both USE that phrase (“Natural born”) and from whence it was originally used to define what, the context from whence it originates.

It’s an unusual phrase and it isn’t a randomly (nor popularly) used phrase, even then. It was taken directly from reference material that the Founders used to write what they wrote and which inspired their idealism in their words.

Like any “mystery” or unknown issue, it can be explored and understood by following the references from whence it was abstracted.

Those references all point to “natural born” as meaning being born as a US citizen to two parents who were/are US citizens.

cozmo on July 11, 2012 at 5:54 PM

Dang it cozmo, I was trying to leave, obviously Dante isn’t gonna man up. Its the third thread I have tried to get him to commit on.

Everyone I have talked to has a different opinion. The latest understanding I have is that Jindals parents were not in fact naturalized citizens at the time of his birth. If that is the case then there is an issue. Not my area of expertise, so I can’t say, even lawyers disagree. I don’t mind hearing the arguments from either side. It cost me nothing, so there’s that. ; )

You DID have a double-digit hour… rant on HA awhile back. I commented on that thread.

And that part, what IS it about that post that some of you just can’t get over? Obviously there’s something there that’s caused some of you to obsess and harbor ongoing resentments about being confronted in your rudeness.

That some of you continue to be steamed about that shows that there’s some sort of loss you’re feeling that you just can’t get over. Maybe it was that you were confronted in being irrational and cruel that has you all continuing to obsess about “losing” your false belief in “control” or some such thing?

Let it go. You all showed yourselves and your accusations to be irrational and often quite ugly and that’s that. I stayed active as long as it took to show you all up and obviously I did or you otherwise would not still be so intent on bringing up your “suffering” about it over and over again.

I voted for Ryan.

However I’d be more than fine with Jindal.

Anyone hear who that clown was on Hannity’s radio show today right around 4pm that had the nerve to say that Jindal needs to “mature alittle more” before he could be VP??

I’m so sick of these RINO’s elitists who think they know everything!

What’s the matter with Jindal?? Not enough RINO votes??? I think the clown may have been Sununu or someone from NH… I caught the tail end of it. He said something along the lines of “our Ayotte from NH”. Yeah, we need Jindal to be more like that RINO Ayotte who supported Sotomayor and now refuses to say where she stands on the Law of the Sea treaty (anyone want to bet she supports giving away our sovereingnty??)

Yeah, but she’s mature though…. we need more wimps like Ayotte not a real conservative right???

I case you’ve forgotten, I was defending you in that thread.

annoyinglittletwerp on July 11, 2012 at 6:12 PM

Thank you. However, I’m not “attacking” YOU now nor then. I object to the ongoing pejorative of referring to others as “birthers” for a few reasons: it’s rude, it’s meaningless, it’s intent is to insult and therefore harm, it’s irresponsible speech, it’s predominantly a Leftwing insult term, devised by the Left (includes Obama) for purposes of TRYING to reduce the worth and credibility of anyone addressing, especially, Obama’s eligibility to the Presidency, now since increased in use to insult anyone who mentions the reqs. as stated by the Constitution as to anyone else.

So it’s useless, destructive speech and associates the users of it with destructive goals, antisocial views, antagonism of the Constitution, the Left in general…

I have no personal relationship here with any other user, I haven’t the foggiest notion as to who any are in reality, though I have had the worst from that “previous thread/post/comments problem” looked into a bit for the record, but otherwise, some here who maintain this clique perception or “in group versus the other people” perspective remains an intentional distance from me.

I repeat, we’re all guests on someone else’s site and resources. If you who claim some sort of superior “in group” possession of the site are, indeed, owners of it, then please advise but until or unless that’s so, all I’ve ever done is oject to foul word-actions here in my comments WHEN it’s been directed at me or otherwise unreasonably at others. And thoroughly explained why I have when I have.

So, enough. Let that “old issue” go and move on.

I think the issue is, rather, that some of you, you exemplify this, assume that because Obama “did it,” “the Left did it,” that it’s some sort of “OK now” for the rest of the nation to exploit what loopholes can be argued out.

Next time try asking a serious question and perhaps someone will have a response for you that will elevate your ongoing attempts that fail even at “snark”.

cozmo on July 11, 2012 at 6:13 PM

I realize that is another version of your sarcasm, but here goes:

if he’s “dragged out of the White House” it will be because of the corruption in the DoJ, Fast and Furious specifically, and the intelligence leaks that aren’t accidental by his Administration, and those are only two of the reasons why that’ve been identified.

However, the more efficient method to “(drag him) from the White House” will be by the November 2012 election. Which is why the GOP is focused on that.

Condoleezza Rice is pro-choice. That in and of itself would be a big problem for Romney and campaign and the GOP itself.

Romney should steer clear of the “Bush Administration” relationship/s or illustration of such as existing.

What!? I posses something that the likes of lorien 1973, sparkplug, Arnold Ziffel, Bmore and rest can only dream of.

Why would I just give that kind of power away.

cozmo on July 11, 2012 at 5:26 PM

Everyone has a price. hehe.

SparkPlug on July 11, 2012 at 6:35 PM

I narrowed down the list.

DeMint, Jim
Gingrich, Newt
Huckabee, Mike
Jindal, Bobby
Rice, Condoleezza
Rubio, Marco
West, Allen

Dr Evil on July 11, 2012 at 6:29 PM

No, no, not Huckabee.

Allen West is looking much more appealing lately. I like the idea of having a military hero in the V.Presidency, I really, really like the idea.

I also think, instead of the V.P.’y, that Gingrich would make an excellent Cabinet member to handle or manage the Dept. of Education, among other problems.

Jim DeMint is looking more appealing as a V.P., too, but I am not sure what his relationship is to Romney, and Romney’s said he’s selecting someone who maintains his views on issues (though that could include DeMint, I’m just saying).

Huckabee is a pro-amnesty person as is Gingrich. The GOP really needs to chafe these individuals out of controlling positions in the GOP and unfortunately, I think that also includes Jeb Bush’s mentee, Rubio.

Your little pale is emptym, cozmo, so sad. But maybe JoJo will return and you and she can exchange false affectionates and generally carry on with personal insults and insincerities and get *all mad* and huff-and-puff and send out all your hot-gut-gas all over the comments forevermore.

I am no fan of Paul Ryan.

Lourdes on July 11, 2012 at 6:40 PM

Um, okay…was that even in English?

cozmo on July 11, 2012 at 6:44 PM

Yes, though no offer has been put forward.

Dr Evil on July 11, 2012 at 6:29 PM

Huckabee? At least Moochelle would be happy as Huckabee could start having kids across the country weighed in schools just like he did in Arkansas.

Rice – don’t need the ties to the Bush administration.

Rubio – what’s he actually done? He’s best known for being a hispanderer.

West would be a great pick but I don’t it happens.

The real possibilities would include Ryan or Jindal. Both would be very good picks. I’m going with Ryan to keep the theme on the economy and bring in the need to reform entitlements. Plus Ryan could help us take Wisconsin and even help in Ohio as well.

LevinFan on July 11, 2012 at 7:18 PM

For the 20-somethingth time Patrick’s been running these surveys, I wrote in John Kasich’s name for VP. I’m still convinced he makes the most logical sense for the following reasons:

1. Budget experience while in US Congress
2. Media-savvy from time spent on Fox News
3. Governor of HUGELY important swing state (and Pa. native), whose policies are showing positive impact.

PatMac on July 11, 2012 at 8:05 PM

The born here part was settled when the constitution was written and clarified with the fourteenth amendment. Then argued with McCain.

cozmo on July 11, 2012 at 6:05 PM

Well at least this is somewhat of an attempt to talk about the issue. It is, of course, a completely incorrect notion.

Once again, place of birth is irrelevant for natural born status.

Considering that every one of your nutball birther conspiracy fire-can’t-melt-steel rants has been wrong, I will take your conclusion as verification.

Tell us demented dante, is Romney still constitutionally ineligible for the presidency?

cozmo on July 11, 2012 at 8:31 PM

Tell us, is Romney still constitutionally ineligible for the presidency?

cozmo on July 11, 2012 at 8:31 PM

Well that didn’t last long, but then it never does. You are unable to participate in a discussion.

I’ve never said Romney was constitutionally ineligible. As far as I know, both his parents were American citizens when he was born. If you have information that they weren’t, I’d be glad to look at it.

But that’s cute how you tried to claim I’m a 9/11 truther – which is what the “birther” smear is anyway. That you would characterize a Constitutional issue as conspiracy – or try to equate it as one – just shows the depth of your ignorance.

Dante on July 11, 2012 at 8:40 PM

Dante on July 11, 2012 at 8:40 PM

Guess what? I was wrong (way to step into that dante). I mistook you nutball birther for one of your comrade nutball birthers.

The statement stands though. You are just as wrong on every nutball conspiracy you harbor as the nutball birther who claimed Romney is ineligible because his dad was born in Mexico.

I am big enough to admit a mistake. Even after four years, you stick to your nutball birther 0bama is ineligible rant.

Except now you include Jindal and Rubio.

How ’bout McCain? Was he constitutionally eligible?

cozmo on July 11, 2012 at 8:49 PM

There’s that squealing noise again.

CurtZHP on July 11, 2012 at 8:53 PM

cozmo on July 11, 2012 at 8:49 PM

What part of parents-must-be-American-citizens-at-child’s-birth do you not understand? Obama’s father was not an American citizen. Obama himself says so. Neither Rubio’s nor Jindal’s parents were American citizens. Both Rubio and Jindal have said so. Place of birth is not what makes one natural born. Citizen, natural born citizen, and native born citizen are not interchangeable. They are all different things.

Dante on July 11, 2012 at 9:06 PM

cozmo on July 11, 2012 at 9:50 PM

On what basis do you claim it is wrong (granted, I will allow that some believe natural born to mean parents must be citizens AND place of birth must be within the country, but that’s a fairly minor quibble), and what do you think natural born citizen means and what do you use that would support your opinion?
