Video: Romney surrogate John Sununu laughs in Andrea Mitchell’s face

posted at 8:03 pm on July 10, 2012 by Allahpundit

Via Business Insider, your feelgood video of the day. Think of it as a companion piece to Gallup’s new poll showing the steep decline in respect for the media over the past 20 years. She’s out to prove that Romney’s the real offshorer-in-chief despite ample evidence to the contrary; Sununu’s having none of it, and her reaction is so feeble that he can’t help but giggle. I don’t think he’s laughing to spite her either; he’s genuinely tickled by the transparency of the game being played. You can afford to laugh, I guess, when confidence in television news stands at a robust 21 percent nationally.

Question: Does Team Mitt’s offshoring counterattack have a real chance of sticking to The One? I like it a lot — and O’s not the only prominent Democrat who’s vulnerable on this point — but I suspect that stereotypes, partisan and otherwise, will make it a bigger electoral liability for Romney than O. The caricature of offshoring involves rich corporate execs sending blue-collar jobs overseas to pad their bank accounts. It’s unfair to Romney, but he’s closer to that caricature than Obama is. Which is not to say he shouldn’t push back, though: Pointing out The One’s offshoring practices is a way to blunt and muddle the Democratic attack. Especially since some people on their own side aren’t thrilled with Obama’s record on this either.

Andie Mitchie got puked.

Truth and liberalism don’t match.

We Conservatives can handle truth and use it well. When MSM liberals are backed into a corner and facing truth, they call for a commercial break. *L*

OT: What do I need to do to stop the auto play on these D@#N commercials? Currently using Safari on an Apple. Kind of hard to check in on Hot Air at work, when the commercials start playing. Because of the work I do (video editing) my computer speakers are always “on” and pretty loud. Frustrating.

Hill60 on July 10, 2012 at 8:36 PM

Had the same problem until the other day on my Mac. The easiest fix: if you can go Firefox as your browser, do that by all means, but then get the Firefox add-on, Ad Block Plus. It kills all of that video commercials crap, and all the other ads, too, and even makes your HA pages and refreshing load instantaneously.

Wasn’t there also $5 billion to pay for developing offshore drilling in Brazil or was that just a proposal that didn’t go through?

This video is the best Romney commercial that will EVER be made. They should just run this on every station in every swing state.

bw222 on July 10, 2012 at 8:59 PM

I’m sick of this crap about “offshoring”.

Otherwise known as expansion, it’s good thing, not something to be vilified.

I had this discussion with a lib friend the other day. I asked him to consider a scenario where:
– A company wants to seek new markets and opens an office in Europe.
– Sales explode and they increase staff there to service their local customers and to market the product.
– The US factory making their product is at full capacity, adding more workers and corporate staff to support all of the new sales in Europe.

Is this scenario “moving workers offshore”?

He said yes. That the company could just as easily provide customer service and make sales by phone or through TV advertising to their European customers and every single one of the jobs created in Europe was a job taken away from a US worker.

Honestly, how do you get through to people that stupid.

Attacks on Romney for offshore assets, taxes heat up

(Reuters) – President Barack Obama’s re-election team stepped up attacks on Mitt Romney for holding offshore assets and urged him to release more tax returns, pushing hard on an issue that could be a weak point for the Republican presidential candidate.(More…)

Just like RomneyCare, outsourcing attacks are a loser for Obama.

Hence the poll averages tightening on both RCP and Pollster to under 2%, a statistical tie (not even considering all the registered voter samples and ridiculous Dem-heavy poll weightings like today’s D +9 WaPo still showing 47/47)

Romney can tie both of them to national unemployment at any moment between now and November. The same can’t be done with Bain and RomneyCare outside of deep-blue Taxachusetts.

And the fact that it was taxpayer-funded Stimulus money intended to create AMERICAN jobs, but was routed to Mexico and Europe, makes it all the sweeter.

Chuck Schick on July 10, 2012 at 9:14 PM

Honestly, how do you get through to people that stupid.

BacaDog on July 10, 2012 at 8:59 PM

You can’t.

And they’re not stupid. They are liberals, they’re minds are made up.

If you proceed from a logical standpoint, they will reject you out of hand.

But if Obama proposed the exact same thing in every detail, they would be all for it.

I truly believe, Baca, that there needs to be new classification in psychology to explain liberals. They’re not crazy or insane, they don’t fit anywhere in the human experience or in psychological science.

Liberals are a category all to themselves.

Pythagoras on July 10, 2012 at 9:18 PM

I admit I haven’t paid much attention to this but didn’t the outsourcing in question happen after Romney left Bain? Besides that was done with private investment. Obama’s was done with taxpayer money – BIG DIFFERENCE

I saw the outsourcing ad by the way – is “insourcing” even a word? When Obama is buying ads in Minnesota – things can’t be sunshine and lollipops.

gophergirl on July 10, 2012 at 8:10 PM

Andwea very quickly danced around that, she said something like -”may or may not have happened after he left Bain, but he was still getting some money from them.”

So if Governor Romney still owned some Bain stock, or perhaps had a pension that had vested, or deferred income, she considers him still responsible for anything Bain did, -a laughable standard.

By this standard little Bammie is responsible for Chevy Volt fires and Government Motors building new plants in China.

This is the game they played with Vice-President Cheney as well. He had used an IRS-approved deferred income plan that Halliburton offered, and for that reason the libbies considered him virtually still a Halliburton employee. (Not that there’s really anything wrong with Halliburton.)

There seems to be a pattern here.

First they talk about how “rich” Romney is.
Most folks don’t care.

Next, it’s Bain Capital.
Democrats galore come out of the woodwork to support venture capitilism, some as far as becoming outcasts.

Now it’s offshoring.
Strike three, Obozo has more outsourcing then Romney and many companies combined.

It’s almost a plan, Obozo condemns and as Rush would say, “open the door right in their face”.

Keep it up Dems.

Ah, Sununu!

(Disclaimer) I’ve lived in NH since the late 1960s so lived thru Sununu’s tenure as Governor here. Said record had mixed results, and even many Republicans started to loathe the guy by the time he left that job.

Souter was a mistake, but that was not all his fault, as Warren Rudman also suggested him.

But getting back to reality, the Democrats will try to go after Sununu as a mouthpiece but they have several problems.

1. He’s of Palestinian/Greek descent.

2. He was born in Habana, Cuba.

3. He and his family in recent years saved one of The Kennedy Family’s favorite ski areas from bankruptcy. That would be Waterville Valley here in New Hampshire. The still existing “Bobby’s Run” is a Double Black Diamond.

She’s not very articulate, is she? And transparent in her lame defense of the administration. “Well the point is…” “First of all…” She describes Sununu as “a surrogate, of course, for the Romney campaign.” Does she describe lefty guests as surrogates, of course, for the Obama campaign? And in the interests of journalistic accuracy, she should open her segments with, “This is Andrea Mitchell, a surroate, of course, for the Obama campaign.” In any case, good that Sununu broke slightly out of the Democrat-MSM frame to talk about the jobs overseas that taxpayer-funded grants created. And you can see the “liar” theme emerging. The Right has to take it further and link this all with the scofflaw no-budget Senate and send it all the way down the ticket in every contest.
