President Obama, the real outsourcer-in-chief

posted at 10:41 am on July 10, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

All of Team Obama’s lame attacks on Mitt Romney following the WaPo‘s equally lame outsourcing story are starting to get more than a little wearing (although, I think they meant offshoring, but what does President Obama care for precise language when there are cheap populist appeals to be made — and now we’re yet again stuck chasing the rhetoric). Why blame the businessman for making perfectly legal decisions to cut costs, which helps them provide a less expensive product and contribute to economic growth, rather than our uncompetitive tax code and atrocious regulatory situation for making it worthwhile for him to do so? It’s intellectually lazy and rests on the fallacy that keeping jobs in America, just for the sake of keeping jobs in America, is a surefire route to economic growth rather than a possible detractor.

So, while I sorely and sadly doubt it will be a website frequented your average American independent voter, I’m glad the RNC is fighting back, demonstrating how Obama sent taxpayer money overseas — after specifically promising that wouldn’t be the case — with a new dot com, ObamanomicsOutsourced.

“And I will invest $15 billion a year in renewable sources of energy to create five million new energy jobs over the next decade – jobs that pay well and can’t be outsourced; jobs building solar panels and wind turbines and a new electricity grid; jobs that will help us eliminate the oil we import from the Middle East in ten years and help save the planet in the bargain. That’s how America can lead again.”

It’s actually a pretty handy-dandy tool for tracing the many cases in which our “stimulus” dollars went overseas and the Obama administration’s many instances of cronyism — take Switzerland and South Korea, for example:

Swiss-Based Landis+Gyr Received Over $50 Million In Stimulus Contracts For Their Smart Grid Meters. Cathy Zoi, A Former Obama Energy Department Official, Held Over $250,000 Worth Of Stock In The Company As They Profited From Her Department’s Policies. Zoi Had Previously Served As An Executive Director At Landis+Gyr Before Joining The Obama Administration. …

Two Korean Manufacturers Of Electric Vehicle Batteries Were Given $300 Million To Build Plants In Michigan. Union Workers Are Now Claiming That Foreign Nationals Are Being Brought In To Fill Jobs That They Could Take. The Department Of Energy Has Admitted That 11 Of The 18 Contractors On Site Are Asian Firms.

I don’t know how useful it will actually be in flipping the script, but there’s a whole lotta’ truth in President Obama “record of failure spanning the globe.” RNC Chair Reince Priebus appeared on Fox this morning to announce this latest campaign’s debut:

You could also say that Obama has been trying to outsource our govt and sovereignty to the United Nation. Not good. And while we’re at it, lets just outsource our wealth to third world countries, just give it out, give it away.

why no mention of the brand new WaPo story in this piece:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/obamas-record-on-outsourcing-draws-criticism-from-the-left/2012/07/09/gJQAljJCZW_story.html?wprss=rss_politics

The Romney attacks were never legitimate in the first place. The RNC is now attacking Obama on this issue. And Washington Post is reporting that lefties are critical of Obama on outsourcing. I think this latest Obamaq attempt at a narrative is crumbling (if not fully backfiring) very quickly.

Am I wrong?

Priebus and all of Team Romney should memorize this, before it’s too late:

Does Romney have a chance against Obama’s cynical politics? By Michael Goodwin, Published July 09, 2012, New York Post

Romney’s big problem is that he grew up in another America. … Fate has given him a demoralized electorate that is growing distant from that old America and an opponent who spouts its verities, but actually believes in none of them.

Barack Obama believes that politics is a knife fight, and the only rule is that he must win. His conduct reflects the unholy mix of a messiah complex with the muscle of The Chicago Way. His goal, he tells us, is to “transform” America, not fix it.

This culture clash explains a presidential campaign operating in parallel universes. Romney is making a broad pitch to the nation as a whole, assuming jobs, the debt, deficit and a strong military are what people care about because they should.

Obama knows that’s no longer true for a big slice of the country. He gives lip service to those issues, but they concern him only to the extent they could be his undoing. His aim is to buy four more years by using the power of incumbency to distribute goodies that will insulate his supporters from immediate pain. In exchange, they’ll give him time to turn the nation into a European welfare state, with an imperial president uber alles…

The whole jobs thing is passé because work is optional when unemployment and disability benefits are the new welfare and an increase in food stamps is proof of “fairness.”

what does President Obama care for precise language when there are cheap populist appeals to be made to the undiscerning acolytes who worship at his feet

There, EJ. Yours was spot-on, but I think mine is spot-on-er.

After all, what percentage of Americans still uses precise words? Precise terminology might show that you know your subject well, but it also prevents you from turning a community organizer into a qualification for President, a temporary lecturer into a Constitutional scholar and the last guy off the bench for a championship team into a star.

Obama transcends specifics. He is a composite President, living a composite life with his composite wife and compositely helping America become a higher level third world country.

It’s impossible to be specific about all the good he has brought to our country.

Patience, laddie… patience.

This is the silly season. Nobody’s really paying attention until a week or so before Tampa. Romney is doing exactly what the GOP electorate hired him to do… raise money, marshal resources, build organization, and hang tight.

Hang tight, until the time for the kill. And all I require is that when the killing time comes, that it be done swiftly, righteously, and without mercy.

I’m not sure how many people will visit an ObamanomicsOutsource website–the RNC should probably give a few examples and make them into 30-second TV commercials.

Like $2 billion to drill for oil off the coast of Brazil.

Like $500 million to Fisker to make electric cars in Finland…that don’t run.

Like another $700 million to make solar panels in Mexico.

Then present another commercial about Obama’s NLRB trying to prevent Boeing from building planes and creating jobs in South Carolina.

And Obama preventing Canadians from building the Keystone XL pipeline and creating jobs in Montana, South Dakota, and Nebraska.

All of the outsourcing in the stimulus bill was Bush’s or the republicans fault. So was the billions to failed domestic green energy scams.

Spain went all in on the ‘green economy” even though studies showed that each green job created meant a loss of 2.2 real jobs. Now Spain has 25% unemployment and is about to go bankrupt.

jukin3 on July 10, 2012 at 11:46 AM

I saw this on Bloomberg this morning. Per capita GDP has dropped from $44,000 in Sept. 2007 to $41,844. Obama is redistributing our GDP to the rest of the world. File this under “jobs lost or not created”.

I’m almost sure that purchasing Russian helicopters, for use by the Afghans, is kinda/sorta like outsourcing.

After all, it ain’t American companies and Americans building those Rooskie choppers.

Uh, to hell, uh, to, uh, uh, to hell with the, uh, uh, facts.

OhEssYouCowboys on July 10, 2012 at 12:00 PM

The fact is that both parties are to blame for all the outsourcing. This isn’t a new problem, it’s been going on for many years and accelerated under Bush.

The only candidate running for President in ’12 that would enact policies that would slow down and might eventually reverse the size and scope of government, and thus the outsourcing, is Gary Johnson.

Bush-era average Employment-Population ratio:
62.7%

Current civilian noninstitutional population 16 years and over:
243,155,000

Number of employed we should have under the Bush average employment rate:
62.7% * 243,155,000 =
152,458,000

Actual number of employed in June 2012:
142,415,000

What’s the difference between the two?
10,043,000 jobs

Over 10 million more people would have had jobs under Bush’s average employment rate, but don’t have jobs because of Obama’s employment rate.

And for each person without a job, many more lives are affected.

If Obama and the Democrats raise tax rates on anybody, more jobs will be lost and revenues from taxes will actually go DOWN, not up.

To allow any part of the Bush Tax Rates to increase now under Obama would be irresponsible.

The time to vote for a “Not Romney” was the PRIMARY. And I did so. I voted for Santorum, even after he had withdrawn from the race. Why? Because I thought he was the best candidate, and I was still holding out hope for a brokered convention.

But, barring something totally unseen, Romney will be the Republican nominee. Voting 3rd party now would help Obama win, just like Clinton won twice without ever reaching 50% of the popular vote.

Romney is not my 1st choice, but I will not vote 3rd party in the general election.

FloatingRock, I realize that there is no changing your mind, but you would be wiser to bring the fight to the Republican primary, when Obama is not a factor, than to bring the fight to the general election, where your actions would have the effect of helping Obama.

Win the battle with the Republicans in the primaries. Then win the battle with the Democrats in the general.
