Team Obama: Romney beat us in June by $35 million

posted at 11:21 am on July 9, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Normally, a $71 million month would look pretty good … but not when compared to the competition this time around.  Looks like Team Obama is starting to understand how Team McCain felt four years ago.  Earlier today, the campaign sent out this e-mail to supporters:

Well, I’ve got some good news and some bad news.

Good news first: June was our best fundraising month yet. We exceeded expectations — more than 706,000 people like you stepped up and pitched in for a grand total of $71 million raised for this campaign and the Democratic Party.

Bravo. That’s seriously impressive.

Bad news? We still got beat. Handily. Romney and the RNC pulled in a whopping $106 million.

Exceeded expectations?  Well, maybe, but that depends on which expectations.  Most Democrats who recalled the massive fundraising Obama and the DNC did in 2008, when they clobbered the McCain/RNC team by nearly 3-1, to at least keep pace with the competition.  Instead, the campaign fell even further behind in the second month of the one-on-one competition than they did in the first.

In fact, as BuzzFeed notes, Team Romney doubled up the gap, going from a $17 million victory in May to a $35 million win in June.  That took place despite the high-profile efforts of Obama to raise money in big-ticket events, with lots of celebrity help.  Romney has had his big-ticket events too, but with a lower profile — and apparently a lot more success.  And this doesn’t count the outside-group fundraising, where Democrats are losing ground, too.

Yet Obama is the one who is running ads constantly. Where is Mitt’s money going? Ann need some more dressage horses?

You don’t run $100 million worth of neg ads against an incumbent in the summer before an election. It’s a waste.

The incumbent has the power of media coverage so they get to go first. Taking down an incumbent is more of a pacing thing.

By law, Mitt can only spend primary money until he officially becomes the nominee at the convention next month.

That is why Obama is outspending him 3-1.

thehill.com published a poll today…I have the feeling MSM will ignore the poll..56% of likely voters believe Mr. Obama has changed the country…for the WORSE….Only 56%? Our schools are doing a worse job than I ever thought..

– Obama
The total number of small donors in June was more than a half-million — 563,729. Impressive.
– Romney
Who wins on votes assuming the contributors vote for where their money went?
News2Use on July 9, 2012 at 11:51 AM

Don’t forget, Obama runs continuous $3 raffles to have breakfast with Joe, as eat on the bus fora short spell, dinner at a celebrity fundraiser. My guess is that a large % of Obama donors are those $3 raffle idiots.

Where is Mitt’s money going?

The Romney campaign opened four new offices in NC this past week-end. We had four…now eight. Are they doubling up anywhere else?

inform yourself on matters a little…he is not yet the official nominee until the Convention, so he can’t spend the money raised for the generals until that…besides, it would be a waste at this point, people are on vacation and not paying attention…there’s the Olympics coming too…

RoF and Crossroads have already both ordered huge swing state ad buys for those weeks. I’m expecting that is just the start.

Gingotts on July 9, 2012 at 11:39 AM

Again, if you think NBC is going to let Romney have more airtime than Obama, you are naive. Obama will be enjoying those NBC “discounts” baby!

inthemiddle on July 9, 2012 at 11:40 AM

I hope they do, oh you of the absolutely dishonest moniker, I hope they do. Because that would be a violation of Federal regulations and NBC would get raked over the coals to the tune of millions of dollars and job losses and even possible jail time for their criminal efforts. And all the publicity would destroy their name among the independent voters, further destroying Democrat opportunities far into the future, and further solidifying a Conservative governance far into the future.

I see Axelfrauds’ spin at every turn. Transparent indeed. Raise More? = Popular support. Raise Less? = It’s THE EVIL RICH. Now, Barry, Biden, Axelfraud, Robert Fibbs, and the evil team of Ideological Sociopaths are OWNING “A Depression”. They are flailing and spinning like MAD, and ONLY with the help of the treasonous propagandists like Brian Williams, Diane Sawyer, Blitzer in the MSM is this not COMPLETE AND UTTER FAILURE.

I heard that this weekend Obama was saying he will “be outspent in 2012, just like he was in 2008.”

Were Romney a brilliant strategist, he’d get the Libertarian POTUS Candidate, former New Mexico Republican Governor Johnson, on his VP ticket.

Not only would Romney not try to outperform himself by stacking his ticket with his mimic this way, getting a strictly fiscal conservative small government VP, but he would eliminate the only alternative to GOP/Democrat tickets on the 2012 General Election Ballot, securing the amalgam of all anti-Obama votes cast for his GOP ticket.

GHWBush lost re-election to Clinton, blaming Ross Perot for providing the distracting alternative on the general ballot.

Experience is a good teacher, but a fool will learn by no other.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/larrybell/2011/06/07/u-n-agreement-should-have-all-gun-owners-up-in-arms/

Have no doubt that this plan is very real, with strong Obama administration support. In January 2010 the U.S. joined 152 other countries in endorsing a U.N. Arms Treaty Resolution that will establish a 2012 conference to draft a blueprint for enactment. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has pledged to push for Senate ratification.

Former U.N. ambassador John Bolton has cautioned gun owners to take this initiative seriously, stating that the U.N. “is trying to act as though this is really just a treaty about international arms trade between nation states, but there is no doubt that the real agenda here is domestic firearms control.”

Gun Owners better make their pledges now to Romney, cause there is only one thing that stands between Americans and full blown Tyranny……..an ARMED CITIZENRY.

Remember when Obama was crowing about having a Billion-dollar campaign in 2012? Back then, the media didn’t seem to worry so much about the negative influences of a campaign having huge piles of cash.

They also don’t seem to complain about the number of Obama’s fundraising events, even though he seems to hold several every day.

LOL- You might want to give the dems some advice on how to spin the fact that they have had to scale back on their convention because no one wants to pay for it.

Also, his campaign is spending more money than it is bringing in. What a shock, since that is the same way he has been running the country.

It’s fun watching you flail around looking for a bright side to all the bad news!

..and, while you’re at it, comrade Hot Gassers, please stop by and sing the petition to fight California SB 249; a liberal San Francisco state senator who wants to thwart the so-called “bullet button” for the AR-15s we tote out here.

You guys in Montana, Wyoming, and Alabama may laugh, but if this flies, the libs in your state might just want to try it on for size.

Yes indeed. PBHO is spending money like it’s our tax dollars to slime Mitt. It hasn’t helped much, as the race is still a virtual tie. I say keep on spamming the airwaves Barack! Burn those bucks now and enjoy the flame thrower that will be coming your way after the convention.

MJBrutus on July 9, 2012 at 4:20 PM

The way I see it, Obama is winning the messaging campaign, and Romney is McCain 2.0. I knew he would never attack Obama the way he went after his fellow Republicans in their campaign. So far, that is proving to be right. Obama is pounding in the message that Mitt is wealthy, dishonest in his wealth, hangs out with wealthy people at fundraisers, vacations (how dare he)like a wealthy person, and on and on. People are hearing that over and over, and it will take hold. Mitt had better wake up and get more aggressive, but I won’t be holding my breath. It is just disappointing. We need a fighter, and yet again, we don’t have one.

Oh, would that this were true. Unfortunately, the msm will help beat this into the heads of the ill informed, Kardashian moocher-class.

Had a boss once reminds me of Bammy. He would be completely wrong normally, but would always counter with “well, that’s not how I remember it” as if that made him right. And outside perception of him was that he was quite something.
