Democratic trackers posting videos of Republican candidates’ homes online

posted at 7:10 pm on July 9, 2012 by Allahpundit

I started this story fully expecting that it would end with a caught-in-the-act ass-covering scramble by the DCCC to blame it all on “overzealous trackers” or whatever. Of course the leadership didn’t know its opponents’ homes were being filmed, they’d say. Surely a party that spent weeks demagoging Sarah Palin for using crosshairs on a campaign map wouldn’t go and post video of politicians’ homes on YouTube. They’re cynical, but they’re not that cynical.

But no. Turns out they knew, and they’re totally fine with it.

That ratcheting up of the video surveillance game is unnerving Republicans who insist that even by political standards, it’s a gross invasion of privacy. Worse, they say, it creates a safety risk for members of Congress and their families at a time when they are already on edge after a deranged gunman shot former Arizona Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords 18 months ago…

In [Reid] Ribble’s case, a clip of his northeastern Wisconsin home appeared online June 18. The soundless video — which lasts 38 seconds — is taken from a car sitting just outside the house. The shot pans across the large home, showing it from several different angles…

“House Republicans have spent this entire Congress trying to hide that they’re protecting benefits for millionaires and perks for themselves instead of protecting the middle class, but we won’t let them keep it secret any longer,” Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokesman Jesse Ferguson wrote in an email.

Democratic officials said placing the videos on the DCCC’s website and YouTube serve a useful purpose, most notably making the footage available to friendly outside groups for use in TV commercials. That way, they don’t violate laws against coordinating with those groups.

Says New York mag, “So it’s creepy and undermining-campaign-finance-laws-y. Impressive.” I’m not posting the vids but you’ll find links at the Politico piece up top if you’re curious. The one of Ribble’s place does indeed look like stalker video, something you’d shoot if you were casing a place; the home itself is nice but not especially large or impressive, which tells you how seriously you should take the “exposing Republican wealth” excuse. (If they’re intent on crude panders aimed at class resentment, they could have stuck with publicizing their opponents’ estimated net worth.) The goal in posting this, obviously, is to intimidate, notwithstanding all the precious rhetoric devoted last January to “tone” after a horrible incident that actually had nothing to do with tone. I’m tempted to accuse them of hypocrisy, but that would require believing that the “tone” nonsense was ever meant as anything more than an opportunistic political bludgeon. Oh well.

Exit question: If you’re hot for ways to attack Republicans along wealth lines, why not do what the media does and gawk at the expensive cars and fine couture at a big Romney fundraiser, none of which you’d ever find at an Obama fundraiser?

Repeating what I said earlier in the headline thread…

“The Politics of Personal Destruction” is a staple of the Democrat playbook.

Clinton claimed it was used against him, but that is a lie. He wasn’t impeached for sex, he was impeached for perjury and obstruction of justice. No one else made him lie to the court or obstruct justice. That was all his own doing.

But the Democrat machine is all about destroying people (Democrat or Republican) who don’t toe their party line.

The Romney Campaign bus was also sabotaged this weekend.

The Romney team today confirmed grass-roots reports that a campaign bus was sabotaged by an unknown vandal over the weekend.

The bus, which was being used for campaign events but not transporting Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, was parked in Richmond, Va., when the vehicle was tampered with late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

A Romney campaign official told PJM that the alternator belt was cut. Repairs were under way Monday to get the bus back on the road for a voter registration event in Springfield, Va., from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Springfield Metro Commuter Lot.

A “Moms for Mitt” mobile phone bank that had been scheduled for 11:30 a.m. this morning in Leesburg, Va., had to be canceled because of the disabled bus.

The best retaliation is a commercial painting the whole Dimocrat party with doing this evil stuff, since the DCCC chair is cool with it.

“Lacking a vision or a plan to fix our nation’s economic troubles, the Democrat party has begun dictatorship style intimidation tactics, supported by their own party leadership” (DCCC quote floating across screen), “filming and posting the homes of Republicans in a pathetic attempt at class warfare. They are so lacking in ideas, the Democrat party is supporting putting legislators and their families in harms way. Show them this doesn’t work, vote Republican.”

That the Democrats find this acceptable is reason enough to kick them out of office and wrest control of the congress from them.

That Obama finds it acceptable actually goes hand-in-hand with the Cadell Exclusive posted on Breitbart.com. Obama is UNTRUSTWORTHY and a LIAR.

These insidious CHICAGO STYLE tactics of intimidation, obfuscation, and outright lying, have to end.

That Obama and the Democrats don’t seem to realize that these tactics are morally and ethically reprehensible and untenable is frightening. It begs the question: What else are they capable of doing to achieve their goal?

Why Are GOP Lawmakers Having Homes, Families Filmed By Democrat Opponents?
**********

Some Republican members of Congress are saying that their Democratic counterparts are taking political tactics to a whole new level by taking video and photos of homes and families and posting them to the Internet. Two such congressmen are Reid Ribble (R-Wisc.) and Jim Renacci (R-Ohio), who told Megyn Kelly Monday that they expected they would be under public scrutiny due to their holding of public office. But, these latest invasions go too far.

“I think it crosses the line of just political decorum,” said Ribble. “I think it’s fair game for people to tape you when you’re in a public event … to see what you’re saying … but this type of video doesn’t really do anything for them or for the political process, and quite frankly it really disturbed my wife; she was very concerned about her personal safety.”

LOL. In the state I live in that actuallyis properly posted No Trespassing signs. If you enter a properly posted property without permission then it is assumed you are there for nefarious reasons.

It’s not “hardball”, it’s typical of a communist administration to order it’s underlings to apply pressure like that to any and all opposition.

My advice, hire a security firm to ensure they have accidents that involve cameras being stuck in the posterior. Make sure the camera is smashed with a lot of jagged edges first.

Why did anyone ever imagine that Socialism wouldn’t result in violence?

Or the one who was just suspended for his leftist, race-baiting remarks on MSDNC?

I’m pretty certain they are one in the same guy.

Wonder if they will be shooting video of this home?

Just when I think it is impossible to go any lower, democrats set a new bar.
