LePage: The IRS is like the “new Gestapo”

posted at 5:01 pm on July 8, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Even though President Obama’s recently Supreme Court-upheld health care law imposes a whole host of ‘penalties‘ that most definitively are not taxes, or something, it’s just ‘easiest‘ for the IRS to takeover the administration of said penalties. So of course, the IRS is rolling forward with plans to begin implementing the health care law, which in turn requires that they hire thousands of new employees and rewrite a bunch of rules and regulations. Oh, joy (emphasis mine):

The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold most of President Barack Obama’s health care law will come home to roost for most taxpayers in about 2 1/2 years, when they’ll have to start providing proof on their tax returns that they have health insurance. …

Under the law, the IRS will provide tax breaks and incentives to help pay for health insurance and impose penalties on some people who don’t buy coverage and on some businesses that don’t offer it to employees.

The changes will require new regulations, forms and publications, new computer programs and a big new outreach program to explain it all to taxpayers and tax professionals. Businesses that don’t claim an exemption will have to prove they offer health insurance to employees.

The health care law “includes the largest set of tax law changes in more than 20 years,” according to the Treasury inspector general who oversees the IRS. The agency will have to hire thousands of workers to manage it…

But it’s not a tax. Yeah, okay, got it.

The IRS might be getting a head start with implementing ObamaCare, but during his weekly radio address, Maine Governor Paul LePage jumped on the Republican-governor bandwagon of states refusing to even start preparing for the Medicaid expansion, etcetera, before they absolutely must.

LePage said the court decision has “made America less free.”

“We the people have been told there is no choice,” he said. “You must buy health insurance or pay the new Gestapo — the IRS.” …

The governor added that Maine will not move forward the ACA’s insurance exchanges — the marketplaces where individuals can shop for health plans from private companies — until the proposed $800 million tab to pay for them passes Congress.

“With these looming uncertainties circling around this issue, Maine cannot move forward right now with Obamacare,” LePage said. …

“Even more disheartening is that reviving the American dream just became nearly impossible to do,” he said. “We are now a nation which supports dependency rather than independence. Instead of encouraging self-reliance, we are encouraging people to rely on the government.”

I can’t support the Nazi imagery — it’s perhaps just a wee bit hyperbolic for my tastes (and that’s saying something!) — but I understand the outrage. This is shaping up to be the biggest encroachment on personal freedom in America’s history, and if the federal government can take their authority this far, we’d be fools not to question just how far the American people are going to allow the government to go before insisting that enough is enough.

g2825m, probably the holiday, I have another heading your way soon. I did not include magazines. My friend has volunteered all of his. You will hardly notice the difference between brand new, except for the dates. I did have to tell minor fibs as far as the contents of one of the three. My postal person assured me it was okay. ; )

haha Rgr…will watch for them. Thanks.

As far as the Nazi talk…I understand Erika’s point of view, however, I am sick of tired of political correct speech where we as a Americans are getting guilted into not speaking our minds these days, whether it is wrong or right, imbecilic or brilliant, we should never be guilted into thinking and speaking our mind as this is a true tactic of the left…controlling one’s speech.

LePage should invite those slugs to pound sand.

I hear from friends in ME that he’s quite popular up there.

petefrt on July 8, 2012 at 5:38 PM

I live in Maine, and he is VERY popular here. You wouldn’t know it if you read the comments sections of any of the local rags, however. The papers, TV stations and commenters are all well to the left of center.

BUT… you talk to the folks on the street and in the bars and shops and they really like him. Maine has about had it with the leftists and what they’ve done to this great state. For the first time in decades, Maine citizens gave control of BOTH houses of the legislature AND the Governorship to the GOP. Shocked an awful lot of the leftists.

Now the left is screaming because LePage has followed through with his promises to curb welfare, revamp the schools and reduce the state’s budget. There is hope here for some REAL change.

That’s why folks like lester are so vituperative and snide. They see their side continuing to lose big and react in the only manner they know: Adolescent rage and name calling.

Maybe Le Page reads Thomas Sowell, 06/12/12:

One of the reasons why both pro-Obama and anti-Obama observers may be reluctant to see him as fascist is that both tend to accept the prevailing notion that fascism is on the political right, while it is obvious that Obama is on the political left.

Back in the 1920s, however, when fascism was a new political development, it was widely — and correctly — regarded as being on the political left. Jonah Goldberg’s great book “Liberal Fascism” cites overwhelming evidence of the fascists’ consistent pursuit of the goals of the left, and of the left’s embrace of the fascists as one of their own during the 1920s.

The column is good, incisive commentary. as usual.

If the imagery shoe fits, wear it.

But the 13,000 mossbergs will not be turned on 330,000,000 people. Just the ones that matter. If 50% don’t have to pay taxes that only leaves 160,000,000. Then you have to consider that to resist, you would have t be a Company owner or Wealthy enough to be slapped with a huge fine, so we are talking only a few hundred thousand.

Most of those are not going to go rogue and star shooting back or going to prison, so we are talking about 2,000 or so. The important thing is to control that narrative. Everyone who resists will be labeled a “Tax Evader”. Who wants to to support a person like that? His home and lifestyle will be held up for criticism by the MSM and the Government as a guy who is living a “lavish” life while others are out of work.

I mean we are years down the road from Waco where 96 Americans died and they were just people who went to a church most of us don’t agree with. The weapon were perfectly legal in Texas AS LONG AS YOU PAID THE TAX ON THEM. Full auto weapons require a tax stamp of $200. Those that survived are still in prison and the evidence (the weapons were recovered) was found to be bogus.

Please remember that Janet Reno’s lieutenant, Eric Holder, is now the AG.

The real Evil is the Progressive tax code. Any answer that does not free people from the Income Tax is simply changing the deck chairs on a sinking ship. Flat Tax or Fair Tax or whatever, but the Progressive Income tax with it manipulative and evil incentives and disincentives is the real problem. Everyone should pay something, whether it is 10% or 15% and that is it.

It is the power behind the Federal Government. End it and we are free again.

I think this is one of the reasons it is important not to pass a budget. How does one withold funds from an entity that has no recorded budget, particularly when that entity is also printing the funds to keep itself in business?

DaveDief on July 8, 2012 at 7:07 PM

I think the funding was in the original bill, or, at least, the authorization for the funding. I’m not completely sure how the weasels are going about this.

Professor: Alabama immigration law like ‘anti-Jewish actions taken by Adolf Hitler & Nazi Germany’

Alabama’s anti-illegal immigration law is like “the anti-Jewish actions taken by Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany” with the “Nuremberg laws coming to mind,” a professor of history at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) wrote on his personal blog.

“The only people who can celebrate this law are the KKK and other white supremacy groups,” wrote Ronald Feinman, who is an adjunct professor of history at FAU.

Feinman added that the “hateful, nativist, despicable legislation” puts Alabama “to shame.”

The blog post was published on Feinman’s personal blog entitled “The Progressive Professor,” where he describes himself as “a liberal and a progressive.”

In other posts, Feinman accuses the FOX News Channel (FNC) of “distorting news on a regular basis” and spewing “poison and hate.”

He described former FNC host and pundit Glenn Beck as the “new menace to American freedom and stability” out simply to “enrich himself at the expense of… gullible Americans.”

A list of excerpts from Feinman’s blog, compiled by Campus Reform:

Republican Party: “The Republican Party has moved so far to the Right that the list of outrageous views and statements that can be compiled gets worse all of the time! There seems to be no limit to their nastiness, selfishness, mean spiritedness, and anarchistic statements against government.”

On Scalia: “But one must remember that Scalia is a showboat, a maniacal egotist who loves to hear the sound of his own voice, and get everyone’s attention.”

On Scalia, Thomas, and Alito: “It would seem appropriate to call them the ‘Three Horseman of the Apocalypse!’”

On Conservative Governors: These “despicable governors” have “no conscience, and do not give a damn about protecting the health of their own less fortunate citizens.”

On Sarah Palin: “This woman is a mental case who needs to be repudiated, and invited to shut her mouth once and for all, as a unnecessary pest and naysayer in her party, who is bound to do everything to destroy any Republican who runs for President, because of her maniacal belief that only she could govern, but unwilling to do the work required, and offer her candidacy to the people of her party.”

-snip-

On FOX News: “Fox News Channel is infamous for distorting news on a regular basis.”

“Fox News Polls, which tend to distort reality, but are believed by those who see that so called ‘news channel’ and the ‘poison and hate’ it disposes, as being absolute Gospel!”

Because Obama has already diverted the funding to the IRS from Obamacare’s HHS Secretary’s billion dollar “implementation fund.”

What the House ought to do is refuse to raise the debt ceiling and for the Administration to start cutting… somewhere… anywhere. Then the Republicans can explain that Obama needs these cuts are needed to pay for tax enforcement thugs.

The only way to end this is to end Obamacare.

This is shaping up to be the biggest encroachment on personal freedom in America’s history, and if the federal government can take their authority this far, we’d be fools not to question just how far the American people are going to allow the government to go before insisting that enough is enough.

A wee bit schizophrenic there, Erika, wouldn’t you say?

That’s what literally pisses me off..

I had jobs for 15 years where the employer paid 60% and I the rest.
It was one of those near Cadillac plans…90% covered on just about everything under the sun.
But now my current employer doesn’t offer insurance..
But I am also self-employed and my business makes enough to cover the $6000/year so I can claim the premiums on my taxes…meaning..
My self-employment tax is down to near nothing…

And..
I get to pay for what I need….
No Sandra Flucks in my family…

But by 2014….this is all gone…
My current employer most certainly will just pay the penalty..
And my current catastrophic plan won’t meet the government’s criteria….

I guess I will need to work harder in my business to pay an extra $4,500 per year Bronze plan.
Oh…and pay the increase in self-employment tax…

Or I can just pay the fine instead.

The Future…according to Obama..

Electrongod on July 8, 2012 at 8:24 PM

Can’t support the Nazi imagery… but it sure looks like it.

Here’s the problem with our side. The left calls Americans who just want to be American Nazis. The right can’t bring themselves to call Nazis Nazis. Who do you think is really going to win this battle? Like Thomas Sowell said… when it’s the wimps vs the barbarians, the barbarians are going to win.

It is not hyperbole to call it what it is. This is not freedom. It is pure slavery. If this is not overturned right after Romney is elected, all that we have seen thus far the last 3 years will seem like the good ol days. It does not take a psychic here. We are in big trouble. We have leaders repeatedly publicly stating they wished they could be dictators. But we don’t want to think they really really mean it. They do. And when the time comes they think they can get away with it, they will become it.

JellyToast on July 8, 2012 at 8:46 PM

This is not democracy. It’s tyranny of the weak, the lazy, the irresponsible, the promisers and the “organizers.” We keep hearing people say, “But we can’t just let people go without health care!”

Even if it costs us and extra trillion plus a year that we don’t have? We’ve built a health care establishment that we really can’t afford, largely because we’ve tried to do everything through the federal government and its inefficient, overly expensive approach to everything. The answer is always raise taxes and debt and more regulations and bureaucracy.

Now our safety nets and social programs have grown beyond our ability to sustain them, because they were based on the assumption that the workforce would continue to grow and pay into their funding faster than we would draw on them. But the truth is that government will always grow faster than our ability to keep up with it, unless we wake up and recognize the concept of limited government that was written into the Constitution. That concept has been ignored and whittled away, even by “conservatives” in Congress, the White House and worse of all, by the Supreme Court.

But waking up and opposing all this usurpation will not be enough. Libertarianism is not the answer. We created our government because we need some of it, but we set up a system to limit its powers, and that depends on our own civic and moral responsibility, our self-reliance and willingness to sacrifice for ourselves and our families and for maintaining the kinds of communities we want to raise the next generation of citizens in. That’s why we need good schools answerable to us and not to state and federal bureaucrats. We need to be concerned citizens, but not try right all wrongs, especially those created by the irresponsibility of others.

We’re now balanced between a European-style socialist system and a return to our roots. We can’t make our case in an echo chamber. We’ve got to educate the rest.

flataffect on July 8, 2012 at 8:54 PM

I can’t support the Nazi imagery — it’s perhaps just a wee bit hyperbolic for my tastes

Actually, this is exactly the way the German National Socialists started – Aktion T4 was put in place to resolve the German “health care crises”.

And let’s not cower from the truth, progressivism is merely what American National Socialism looks like.

It isn’t the same as German National Socialism, but they spring from the same perverted tree.

Romney will do NOTHING about Obamacare if he wins.

As he said, health care mandates are a good, “conservative” idea.

The central problem of our age is not the Democrats, or even the ignorant masses that vote them into office – it is the Republican Establishment – very much including Mitt Romneycare.

When the Democrats win, they advance the state. When the Romneycrats win, they advance the state. And we the people lose either way.

Thanks once again for not telling us where you come from. A+

Actually, I’m more interested in learning not about where O’bama was born, but what he was doing attending an exclusive Honolulu private prep school that has an endowment approximately equal to the private prep school Romney attended in Michigan.

That Honolulu prep school O’bama attended would be Punahou.

Until wiki magically scrubbed the reference early in 2008 (gee, I wonder why?) their entry for Punahou noted that the school in fact participated in the statewide ritual practiced in all of the schools (public and private) in the 50th State in those days, namely “Kill Haole Day”. On the last day of school, white kids were singled out and beaten up simply for the Crime of Being White.

Now why would wiki scrub that Inconvenient Truth at that very point in time? You and I both know the answer.

BTW, I confirmed that Punahou engaged in this practice with a relative of mine who taught there starting in the 1950s. He said it continued well into the 1980s, in other words long after O’bama had graduated.

And as a Haole myself growing up in Hawai’i in the early and mid 1960s, I was also subject to the same privilege of being physically assaulted solely because I was born White. By the time I moved back to the Mainland a few years later, all of those racists who attacked me had become my friends. That is something that you will never understand.

And remember, Hans, Hawai’i has been in the control of the Democrats for almost 60 years now. It’s still legendary for its (Democrat) residents being obsessed with Race.

You’re Dismissed.
