Video: “A conversation with my 12-year-old self”

posted at 7:26 pm on July 6, 2012 by Allahpundit

To cleanse the palate, have we ever featured a vid that’s gone mega-viral faster than this? It went up on YouTube literally yesterday; as I write this, it’s at 1.6 million views and the guy behind it has already been booked for the weekend edition of “Today.” It used to take three or four days, at a minimum, for someone to catapult from YouTube sensation to network TV hit. Maybe the Feiler Faster Thesis applies to viral videos too?

If this thing hits 20 million views, they ought to sign this guy and Simon Pegg for a comedy about twins separated at birth.

Okay, that was cute. And yes, they could make a movie out of it.

Meh.

They did already.

“The Kid” starred Bruce Willis.

I got the kink to this when I woke up this morning…

That’s the most words that I’ve heard a twelve-year old boy say in one day!

OldEnglish on July 6, 2012 at 7:40 PM

I’m off to make a tape of me talking to my 76 year old self, 20 years from now. “Is Barack Obama still an America-hating douchebag, regularly still winning polls for worst President ever?”

PatMac on July 6, 2012 at 7:41 PM

LOL

Midas on July 6, 2012 at 7:46 PM

Viral huh? Different strokes I guess. No accounting for taste?

Bmore on July 6, 2012 at 7:47 PM

They’re sure hammering us with 0bama ads here. All during Jeopardy, local and ABC news and now Wheel of Fortune…
No Mitt ads.

OmahaConservative on July 6, 2012 at 7:47 PM

Good grief. So, did he plan that out 20 years ago? Or was it just a lot of clever editing and good fortune that he made the video when he was 12?

Kinda creepy, if you think about it.

iurockhead on July 6, 2012 at 7:49 PM

Maybe it’s me, but that was a whole lotta nuthin.

BKeyser on July 6, 2012 at 7:49 PM

Um, is that really him from 20 years ago?

BKeyser on July 6, 2012 at 7:49 PM

It’s not you.
Actually, maybe it is. I thought it was a whole lot of BS. Is that worse than nothing?

Been seeing quite a few Romney ads here. Being in a swing state I guess that’s to be expected.

Saw it yesterday, and I got a kick out of it.

Haters gonna hate, I guess.

You either get the awesome Doctor Who joke of this or you don’t. It was hilariously funny.

Kristamatic on July 6, 2012 at 8:04 PM

I look somewhat simliar to myself back then. This guy is completely changed.

SouthernGent on July 6, 2012 at 8:04 PM

Its PerPlexing eh!!

canopfor on July 6, 2012 at 8:06 PM

Clever. Very clever. Makes you think doesn’t it?

If I could have a conversation with my 12 year old self, I’d tell me to never, ever get married without a pre-nup and never, ever trust a liberal no matter how pretty or how good in bed she is.

I’d also tell me to buy as many shares as I could afford in a company that will be called Apple, and to buy only Ford pickup trucks for my ride.

Then, I’d give myself The Lists … the people to avoid making friends or doing business with because they’ll screw me, the people who themselves need to be screwed badly at first chance, the people to help whenever I can even if they could never help me, and the people to be kinder to as they are the one’s who’ll really care about me.

…so!…from this day FORWARD…be a conservationist!…from the toilets in your house…save everything of substance from the ‘big job’….(using latex gloves please!)…AND HURL IT AT THE TV SCREEN every time his ads come on!…do it calmly…(:->)

Flora Duh on July 6, 2012 at 8:00 PM

Western IA is just three miles east of me and a big portion of them get our network television stations. It kind of surprises me that Romney isn’t running ads considering IA is a swing state. Granted, W IA is more conservative than the central or eastern part of the state…

OmahaConservative on July 6, 2012 at 8:09 PM

It’s okay but it would be better if he had ended up in prison and his wife had left and his kids hated him. LOL
And this could have been better too if as a 12 year old he had talked about his dreams and plans and what was important. The thing was cute but not great or even interesting and two minutes too long.

Deanna on July 6, 2012 at 8:09 PM

If 12 year old Jeremiah could have imagined what 32 year old Jeremiah might look like, he would’ve vowed to never touch booze.

:P

(charming video, really).

Blink and you’re dead.

29Victor on July 6, 2012 at 8:12 PM

Like I said, people, this is a riff on a Dr. Who episode, which, if you’ve seen it, makes this way funnier.

Kristamatic on July 6, 2012 at 8:14 PM

Don’t blink, don’t even look away.

Also, the Angels have the Phone box- I’ve got that on a t-shirt.

Kristamatic on July 6, 2012 at 8:15 PM

I read somewhere the validity of this is being questioned as some “aspiring screenwriter” tried the same thing before and it turned out to be a gimmick for a new TV series.

Didn’t watch the vid, but I thought the screenshot on the HA homepage was interesting: That picture of Van Gogh or whoever in the background looks a *lot* like the video guy. Maybe next he’ll do an interview with his 19th century self?

landlines on July 6, 2012 at 9:34 PM

Cat videos go viral, so this is as good or better than a cat video.

Or are you asking why certain videos go viral. Well, then, you should probably rent this.

LoganSix on July 6, 2012 at 9:45 PM

Good, but still not sure why it’s gotten so many views.

This stuff is less predictable than I thought.

This one has taken a bit longer to go viral – 3 million plus in 11 days, but I think it’s cooler in a downhome, non hipster way – a parody of I’m sexy and I know it.

Idea is interesting, but would like to see the full 12-year old’s video without the edits.

Think there was lots of snipping, cutting, pasting and editing to get the so-so results.
