Obama: The jobs report is a “step in the right direction”

posted at 12:46 pm on July 6, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Hey, remember a few years ago, back in 2009, when President Obama magnanimously promised us that — if we passed his stimulus — we would now at this very moment be sittin’ pretty with an approximate 5.6% unemployment rate? Huh. Hasn’t quite worked out according to his grandiose plans, has it?

This morning’s jobs numbers were a far cry from President Obama’s erstwhile promise; we’re still lingering around 8.2%, with economic growth just piddling along. The White House was quick to follow with a statement, kindly informing us impatient plebeians that there are “no quick fixes” to these economic doldrums. I suppose, in the long run, three and a half years really is just the blink of an eye:

While the economy is continuing to heal from the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, much more remains to be done to repair the damage from the financial crisis and deep recession that followed.  It is critical that we continue the policies that build an economy that works for the middle class and makes us stronger and more secure as we dig our way out of the deep hole that was caused by the severe recession.  There are no quick fixes to the problems we face that were more than a decade in the making. President Obama has proposals to create jobs by ending tax breaks for companies to ship jobs overseas and supporting State and local governments to prevent layoffs and rehire hundreds of thousands of teachers.

Are they seriously suggesting that ending tax breaks for companies that offshore is a solution to our current economic problems? Talk about a drop in the ocean — it really is just a very transparent move to fuel populist hatred of Mitt Romney’s wealth. The idea that the economy can’t be fixed within a four-year time frame, because the problems were ‘more than a decade in the making,’ is absolutely pathetic. On the campaign trail in Ohio this morning after the jobs announcement, Obama treated us to more of the same baloney:

President Obama said at a campaign event on Friday that the June jobs report shows the economy has taken ”a step in the right direction.” …

“That overall means that businesses have creatd 4.4 million jobs over the past 28 months,” Obama said at a rally in Poland, Ohio. “That’s a step in the right direction… But we can’t be satisfied because our goal was never to keep on working to get back to where we were in 2007.”

“We’ve got to grow the economy even faster, and we’ve got to put even more people back to work,” he said.

Okay, what jobs report is he looking at? Because I most certainly agree that we need to get the economy moving again and encourage growth — and these jobs numbers are definitely not a herald of policies effecting growth. This is the reading of the jobs report that I’m seeing:

U.S. employers added 80,000 jobs in June, barely better than the 77,000 they added in May. The monthly report from the Labor Department provided the clearest evidence yet that job growth has slowed from earlier this year. The U.S. gained just 225,000 jobs in the past three months combined, fewer than in January alone and the weakest quarter of job growth since 2010. The unemployment rate remained stuck at 8.2%. …

The report will do little to ease fears that the broader U.S. economy is losing steam. The Institute for Supply Management said this week that the manufacturing sector contracted in June for the first time since the first month of the recovery in July, 2009. Household spending fell slightly in May, the first drop in nearly a year, and consumers’ confidence in the economy has been falling.

IBD:

The economy created just 80,000 jobs in June, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. But that same month, 85,000 workers left the workforce entirely to enroll in the Social Security Disability Insurance program, according to the Social Security Administration.

The disability ranks have outpaced job growth throughout President Obama’s economic recovery. While the economy has created 2.6 million jobs since June 2009, fully 3.1 million workers signed up for disability benefits.

Why no mention of Obama’s job killing policies like ObamaCare?

I had the 4th of July with close friends, one of which is a successful pharmacy owner in Bakersfield, CA. ObamaCare wiped out $2 million of his business in the blink of an eye. One of the new regulations bans him from selling AIDS drugs as they now must only be sold by approved government outlets.

He’s laid off 2 pharmacists and looking to lay off 2 more.

During my time at Experian, Obama and the Democrats banned certain types of fees on student loan processing. We had massive layoffs in that department – right around 100 or so.

Many more regulations like these are being written at this moment, with many more to come.

Yes, after all, Obama’s race-baiting is paying off so well…

Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rate for blacks (14.4%) edged up over the month, while the rates for adult men (7.8%), adult women (7.4%), teenagers (23.7%), whites (7.4%), and Hispanics (11.0%) showed little or no change. The jobless rate for Asians was 6.3% in June, little changed from a year earlier.

Gaining 80K is better than losing 80K, but no one can be happy with where the economy is right now. Things are slow, and job growth is weak. Some of today’s sell off is due to rising Spanish yields and more worries from Europe, but most is probably due to this morning’s jobs report. Nevertheless, if things begin to grow from here the Spring downturn will eventually be remembered as just a minor slowdown and not the start of a second recession. We’re not expecting much from 2Q12 GDP, but there are indications that activity has begun to pick up again. We’ll know in a couple of months whether 3Q12 will be better …

It is worse than the “liberal” thing. Rank and file Democrats need to be aware that their party has been hijacked and its leadership is corrupt to the core.

When Obama fired the DNC staff, moved it from Washington to Chicago, and staffed it with his 2008 campaign staff, people should have realized that the party had been hijacked.

If you are an “old school” Democrat or a Democrat by family tradition, this is NOT your father’s Democratic Party. This is JFK’s worst nightmare. The communists have taken over the party. They are ACTIVELY trying to destroy our economy as a matter of policy. This tradition from Columbia University goes back the the very beginnings of Communism itself, even before the Russian Revolution.

I can not for a moment understand how a typical American citizen can align with the current Democratic Party and look themselves in the face in the mirror every morning. This has nothing to do with conservative vs. liberal politics.

OUR COUNTRY IS AT STAKE HERE.

Let’s not forget a Simple Geography Lesson.

O’bama claims to have been born in Hawai’i (where the ancients did eat dogs, BTW).

Anyone who’s lived there or has stayed in the Islands for an extended period of time knows that they have only 2 directions out there. “Mauka” and “Makai”. Those are the Hawaiian words for “mountain” and “ocean” respectively.

From O’bama’s alleged Honolulu birthplace, if one heads “Mauka” they end up going right over the cliffs along the Koolau Pali.

And if one goes “Makai”, they end up drowning.

He’s Rudderless now.

Why don’t you go to school and learn some economics instead of repeating a watered down version of that socialist crap that has failed everywhere it has ever been tried.

You want to put money in the hands of the middle class? Fine, the easiest way to do that is cut taxes. But the political left won’t go for that easier because it doesn’t allow them to control who gets the money and with them it is all about control. It is all about doling out money in exchange for votes by creating client groups. Simply leaving money in the hands of all Americans won’t do because then it is like herding cats and we can’t have a bunch of independent people making independent decisions.

And what are the middle class going to do with their money? Some of it will be given to “the billionaires” in the form of investment in hopes of participating in the success of those billionaires. How did the billionaires get to be billionaires? Most of them made it themselves. Practically ALL of them made it themselves.

I get tired of this crap about how it is somehow the role of government to manage who has what. Leave us alone and stop trying to pick our pockets “for our own good”.

OF COURSE Obama sees this jobs report as ‘a step in the right direction’. He wants more people signing up for disability, a government check, than those who are independent and employed. This is the same administration that has its agencies out trying to get people to throw FOOD STAMP PARTIES and to discourage people from having ‘mountain pride’ AKA self reliance, simply to ensure that more people are beholden to the federal government for the food on their table and the roof over their heads.

Its very difficult to coerce those who are self reliant, independent, and employed.

Its become standard and effective practice, a very effective political tool, to keep those living on entitlements and any form of government benefit in a state of constant fear every time an election season begins, reminding them that those benefits could be ended with the stroke of a pen.

The same can be said of the continual, and now decades old, manipulation of illegal aliens and the Hispanic community.

This is a form if tyranny and it relates most directly to indentured servitude and slavery.

In a civilized society these practices are despicable, reprehensible, intolerable, and untenable.

November brings us a chance to vote for real entitlement reform and lay this issue to rest by electing those who will adopt the RYAN PLAN, thus saving the safety net for those who need it and putting this nation back on track to prosperity.

November brings the chance to elect Romney who has promised to enact real immigration law reform and bring this tide of illegal immigration to a conclusion, secure the borders, provide for national security, and enforce the rule of law for ALL 50 STATES. This will end the limbo in which illegal aliens dwell. By sending illegal aliens back to their nations of origin to apply for LEGAL STATUS like all other would be immigrants to the United States we secure for them the human dignity and self respect that they deserve while simultaneously relieving United States citizens had legal immigrants of the immense and unwarranted burden on our communities and resources. This much needed reform will also end the cynical, election season driven, political bribery, extortion, and calculated manipulation to which Americans of Hispanic descent have been subjected for decades.

These issues, and the fear and desperation they engender, have been used by cynical politicians for decades to divide Americans.

A vote for Romney and the GOP in November is much more than a vote for economic prosperity, its a vote for human dignity, self respect, and a reunited American people.

You really have very little understanding of the economic impact of American families losing nearly half their net worth. Historically, the most common outcome is full-blown depression.

Until strong consumer demand returns and healthy export orders reemerges from Europe and China, the prospects for a strong reduction in the unemployment rate will remain low. No manufacturers or other industry are going to add to their workforce while demand remains weak.

According to Dept of Ed stats in 2008 there were 3,233,000 public school teachers in the US. In 2012 there are 3,358,000. An increase of 135,000. How does this translate into returning “hundreds of thousands of teachers”? Obama creates statistics out of thin air and no one in the media even looks into their accuracy. It took me two minutes to find these numbers. This is why he will win in November. Everything Obama claims is reported as news and fact. Romney can only respond with ads which of course are looked upon as biased. The entire media structure in the US now rivals Pravda and Tass from the USSR and they’re not even trying to hide it.

xkaydet65 on July 6, 2012 at 2:06 PM

This is because tons of people see jobs added and think, “Hey, that’s great!” Still weak ground to stand on, because over the fall there will be ample opportunity to educate those that aren’t plugged in on what this all really means. And what this really means will fit intuitively with whatever they observe in their own lives, and those of their friends and family.

Unfortunately conservatives are dumb enough to think starving the working and middle class is the best way to create jobs.

They are dumb enough to believe paltry middle class tax credits that is inconsequential to your overall take home pay is the best way to improve the lives of the middle class.

Instead of focusing on the billionaire who is milking the tax system in the millions, they will rather turn against their dead beat neighbor who is milking the tax system for pennies. Mind Boggling.

You mean the multi-millionaire executive of Del Monte who got his American Samoa canneries exempted from the last minimum wage increase? Oh, wait, that was Pelosi’s husband . . .

You mean the bank that gets millions of dollars for basically doing nothing during every QE purchase cycle? Oh, wait, that’s Goldmann Sach’s, whose executive spends one night a month at the white house . . .

You must be talking about the small bank in California that was otherwise ineligible for TARP that got plenty anyways? Oh, wait, that was Maxine Waters’ husband, my bad . . .

Oh, you must mean the multi millionaire that hid his money in the Dominican Republic and then got caught and thrown in jail? Oh, wait, that was Charlie Rangel and he got a slap on the wrist and is still a Congress critter . . .

Hmm, let me think. Oh, maybe you’re talking about the oil company that got $2 Billion from us to drill. . . No, wait, that company isn’t even American, is heavily owned by George Soros, and is in Brazil. Oh, and it came from the Obama administration.

See, that’s the game.

Here’s how the GOP plays it: We’ll lower taxes for corporations, so they’ll pay into our campaign coffers.

Here’s how the Dems play it: We will raise taxes on corporations, but then add thousands of exemptions for anybody that pays into our campaign coffers, so they don’t really end up paying it.

So your take your elitist snobbery some place else.

Real Americans? 7.5 Million of them have given up looking for work because it’s so bad. They know things aren’t better.

14.9% of Americans are under or unemployed. How many of them will support Obama?

And one more time, to see if you can finally understand it: Rich people didn’t exploit the middle class, they EMPLOY THEM! Have you ever been employed by a guy making 50,000 a year? No? Rich people don’t take their extra money an stick it under a mattress. Even if they spend it on lavish parties, they are supporting: 1) caterers 2) cleaning staff 3) the people who built the party spot 4) the food industry, etc.

Spending is 70% of GDP and 25% of that is done by the top 1% of earners.

And you have to get out of your colonialism mentality. Yes, billionaires in this country are second or third generation wealth, but 95% of millionaires in this country are self made, through hard work, 75, 80, 90 hours a week getting their products launched and growing. Even McDonald’s started as ONE corner restaurant. WalMart was a couple shoe stores in Texas. HP was a couple guys named Hewlett and Packard in their garage. Microsoft was three friends paying a guy in Seattle $50,000 for DOS and selling it to IBM for $3 Million. These people didn’t get rich by “stealing form the middle class” or “working their slaves.” They provide jobs to people who don’t have the brain power, or drive, or desire to do what they did.

And Obama’s philosophy, regulations, opinion of America are stopping this. Going from 49 to 50 employees is now too expensive thanks to ObamaTax. Energy exploration permits are way down. 2000+ regulations are crippling small business and growth. And fear of what’s coming next, not from Congress, but by Executive Order or regulation makes the business environment uncertain.

You, uppereastside, are the one with the “slave” mentality, thinking that because some people only make 5 figures based on what their marketable skills are, they are slaves to the people who built and run and are legally responsible for their company. I could go on about liability, and skill sets, but you’re probably tuned out since so much truth has already been written . .

And let me tell you, even if Obama did give my neighbor a 10% additional tax break for “the middle class”, it’s not him I’d be going to for a startup investment, because he’ll use it to pay off his credit card before he maxes it back out . . .

But under Obama if I go to the “evil” rich guy, he’ll tell me he has to hang on to it because of costs from regulation coming down the pipe, known or unknown.

1. The media want them to be so and will make sure of it.

2. The people lie to the pollsters like never before.

The vote won’t even be close.

You might add, bro, that the polls are skewed like crazy and harken back to the Carter-Reagan race in the 80s when Carter was leading Reagan by as much as 30 points in January and as much as 8-10 points in the final week.

Personally, there’s a lot of Bradley Effect in these likability numbers THAT WILL NOT TRANSLATE WELL IN THE VOTING BOOTH.
