Obama: The jobs report is a “step in the right direction”

posted at 12:46 pm on July 6, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Hey, remember a few years ago, back in 2009, when President Obama magnanimously promised us that — if we passed his stimulus — we would now at this very moment be sittin’ pretty with an approximate 5.6% unemployment rate? Huh. Hasn’t quite worked out according to his grandiose plans, has it?

This morning’s jobs numbers were a far cry from President Obama’s erstwhile promise; we’re still lingering around 8.2%, with economic growth just piddling along. The White House was quick to follow with a statement, kindly informing us impatient plebeians that there are “no quick fixes” to these economic doldrums. I suppose, in the long run, three and a half years really is just the blink of an eye:

While the economy is continuing to heal from the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, much more remains to be done to repair the damage from the financial crisis and deep recession that followed.  It is critical that we continue the policies that build an economy that works for the middle class and makes us stronger and more secure as we dig our way out of the deep hole that was caused by the severe recession.  There are no quick fixes to the problems we face that were more than a decade in the making. President Obama has proposals to create jobs by ending tax breaks for companies to ship jobs overseas and supporting State and local governments to prevent layoffs and rehire hundreds of thousands of teachers.

Are they seriously suggesting that ending tax breaks for companies that offshore is a solution to our current economic problems? Talk about a drop in the ocean — it really is just a very transparent move to fuel populist hatred of Mitt Romney’s wealth. The idea that the economy can’t be fixed within a four-year time frame, because the problems were ‘more than a decade in the making,’ is absolutely pathetic. On the campaign trail in Ohio this morning after the jobs announcement, Obama treated us to more of the same baloney:

President Obama said at a campaign event on Friday that the June jobs report shows the economy has taken “a step in the right direction.” …

“That overall means that businesses have creatd 4.4 million jobs over the past 28 months,” Obama said at a rally in Poland, Ohio. “That’s a step in the right direction… But we can’t be satisfied because our goal was never to keep on working to get back to where we were in 2007.”

“We’ve got to grow the economy even faster, and we’ve got to put even more people back to work,” he said.

Okay, what jobs report is he looking at? Because I most certainly agree that we need to get the economy moving again and encourage growth — and these jobs numbers are definitely not a herald of policies effecting growth. This is the reading of the jobs report that I’m seeing:

U.S. employers added 80,000 jobs in June, barely better than the 77,000 they added in May. The monthly report from the Labor Department provided the clearest evidence yet that job growth has slowed from earlier this year. The U.S. gained just 225,000 jobs in the past three months combined, fewer than in January alone and the weakest quarter of job growth since 2010. The unemployment rate remained stuck at 8.2%. …

The report will do little to ease fears that the broader U.S. economy is losing steam. The Institute for Supply Management said this week that the manufacturing sector contracted in June for the first time since the first month of the recovery in July, 2009. Household spending fell slightly in May, the first drop in nearly a year, and consumers’ confidence in the economy has been falling.

President Obama has proposals to create jobs by ending tax breaks for companies to ship jobs overseas and supporting State and local governments to prevent layoffs and rehire hundreds of thousands of teachers.

Gov. Scott Walker also had some proposals to enable local governments to prevent layoffs of teachers, and he was just re-elected last month. To take steps in the right direction, you need to be a Walker.

And there’s nothing like showing up for a “jobs rally” in a bus built in Canada!

Maybe Barry should have one of his “jobs advisers” explain the evils of ‘off-shoring”. GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt comes to mind, he’s got all that experience off-shoring GE jobs to China.

Or maybe Barry’s Hollyweed buddy who wants to open film and animation studios in China.

We can now officially call this the Barack Obama/John Roberts economy, as we can be sure that the economy would show definite signs of improvement, at least by the end of the Summer, if Roberts had joined the 4 dissenters and Obamacare got tossed.

On the other hand, if that were to happen, we’d be treated to the MSM crowing about how the economy has finally turned a corner. Maybe it’s better this way.

June jobs swoon: America’s labor market depression continues

This was not the employment report either the American worker or the Obama campaign wanted to see right now. The Labor Department said the U.S. economy created just 80,000 jobs in June, less than the 90,000 economists had been forecasting. And private-sector job growth was just 84,000, down sharply from 105,000 in May. Not doing fine.

The unemployment rate stayed at a lofty 8.2%

Archivarix on July 6, 2012 at 1:05 PM

The idea that the economy can’t be fixed within a four-year time frame, because the problems were ‘more than a decade in the making,’ is absolutely pathetic.

You really have very little understanding of the economic impact of American families losing nearly half their net worth. Historically, the most common outcome is full-blown depression.

Until strong consumer demand returns and healthy export orders reemerges from Europe and China, the prospects for a strong reduction in the unemployment rate will remain low. No manufacturers or other industry are going to add to their workforce while demand remains weak.

To a progressive everything is NOT RELATIVE… its SUBJECTIVE.

Not only does the progressive ignore reality, erroneously believing they can decide what reality IS… they simply decide that everyone else is as woefully ignorant as they are and thus they believe they can simply claim ANYTHING is what they SAY it is and the ignorant will take them at their word.

This is the world view of people who have crafted that world view, not on hard research and years of study, but on TALKING POINTS meted out to them by those whom they choose to believe.

Obama is simply following the same pattern that all progressives follow. Why actually do the work, possess the intellectual integrity, study and think for oneself, forming one’s own opinion, when there is someone professing to have the credentials to ‘prove’ that they know of whence they speak, to tell one what to think on any given issue? Surely, they believe, its smarter just to take the word of someone with whom one generally agrees on any given subject than actually go to all the trouble to study for oneself, arriving at an independent conclusion.

Obama sees himself as the person to disseminate the thoughts of those czars with which he’s surrounded himself. Does Obama believe what he says? Probably. How could such a progressive dare to question the credentials of those he has publicly deemed ‘experts’?

Thanks to the failed policies and anti-business actions of OBOZO and his dictatorial regime, the American economy is no longer on life support – it is stone cold dead. Rigor mortis has passed and the economy has now become just a decaying, stinking corpse. In spite of this, bailout bernanke, to justify his massive salary and humongous benefits, continues to provide mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to this corpse. All that is doing is creating asset and bond bubbles which help his Wall Street masters reap massive profits, but which also will inevitably collapse causing equally massive harm to the poor and middle class. Even with bailout bernanke’s desperate and potentially harmful actions, the labor force participation rate – the most significant measure of US employment – continues to decline and is now at more than a 30 YEAR LOW.

OBOZO / bailout bernanke insanity = repeating the same failed policies over and over again but expecting a different result.

You and your sister, with the “Bravo” are obtuse, unfortunately.

Today’s report is not only for June, it is for the last three months as well, and it’s a disaster.

Your reading of the last 4 years is also a disaster, no matter how much Obama and you lie.
