Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:01 am on June 21, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Yesterday morning, Barack Obama asserted that executive privilege allowed his administration to hide documents from Congress, related to an ATF operation that ended up providing the weapons that killed hundreds of people — including two American  law-enforcement officers, Border Patrol agent Brian Terry and ICE agent Jaime Zapata.  By noon, Obama went back to demanding transparency … of his critics:

The link takes readers to a blog post by Obama campaign manager Jim Messina griping about American Crossroads and demanding the disclosure of their donor lists.  It’s titled “Hell No,” which is coincidentally what Obama told Congressional investigators trying to find out why two Americans and hundreds of Mexicans got killed by weapons the ATF handed off to drug cartels.

Twitter user Shane Styles couldn’t believe the timing:

I guess this is the life of privilege, eh?  Transparency on thee while obfuscation for me.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Yeah, yesterday was very illustrative of the mentality of the boy-king Barry Hussein Soetoro I, Emperor of the World. He asserted “executive privilege” for something he claims he never knew about (and as such there should have been nothing to hide) and wants the NAMES of his enemies who (HARRUMPH!) dare to GIVE MONEY to people who will DARE (HOW DARE THEY!) use it to inform the public the truth of His Reign.

Guys, don’t underestimate the significance of what is going on right now. This is no ordinary election. Obama is no ordinary President. He has a foreign AUTHORITARIAN background. Obama doesn’t see himself as a mere President, a TEMPORARY occupant of the office, but as a king, an Emperor, a dictator, in the tradition of his background (Kenya, Indonesia) and of those he admires (Mao, Castro, Stalin).

BTW- The American Crossroads ad running against Tim Kaine here in VA is killer. It points out that Kaine essentially abandoned his responsibilities as Governor to work for Obama as head of the DNC. It’s effective because it is true and does nothing but remind the voters that the state came second to Kaine’s aspirations for high national office.

The only way you could compare Fast and Furious to Watergate is if G. Gordon Liddy had massacred hundreds of democrats in the Watergate Hotel rather than committed a 3rd rate burglary.

NO ONE DIED IN WATERGATE.

Obama and Holder were willing to (and needed to) KILL HUNDREDS in order to convince the public that the 2nd Amendment needed to go away. Not only did they commit murder they CONSPIRED TO COMMIT TREASON in violation of their oaths!

I agree with everything except the name of this scandal. It is not Watergate II. In Watergate the cover up was worse than the crime. In F&F, the crime is even more reprehensible than the cover up. This could well set a new standard for Presidential scandals and take the “gate” thing off the table for future scandals.

I agree. But then, “Watergate” is daily conversation at progressive tables. Bill Maher is still complaining about Nixon. For them, “Watergate” is the worst crtime committed in history, so at least that puts it in the right ballpark for them.

Like, “They think this is as big as Watergate? Seriously? So, what are they saying?” <– and that looks exactly like the collective LSM facial expression at the moment.

So it might not be the minimalizing thing we worry it might be.

ProfShadow on June 21, 2012 at 8:32 AM

How exactly?

Here’s the deal. The Congress will take up and pass contempt charges against Eric Holder next week on a party-line vote. It then goes to the US Attorney for DC who (as a Obama/Holder crony with questionable objectivity) will decline to prosecute. The Congress could then seek to file civil charges but that wouldn’t go anywhere before the election. In short, this will end in a stalemate.

In the meantime, this is not a character-based election. This is an economic election and that is the message and where pressure should be applied going into the November elections. Plenty of time to prosecute and punish Holder and Obama after they are out of office.

Mr. Obama, as a Christian, would do well to read the seventh chapter of Matthew and reflect upon it.

But since it is a passage from the Holy Bible and has nothing to do with Black Liberation Theology or Marxism, I’m not holding my breath.

How many people who had never heard about Fast and Furious before yesterday morning are now hitting Google to learn the facts about it?

From the comments I’m reading on local news sites, dozens. Now multiply that by a couple of million who don’t comment on the sites.

Hell, I even saw a couple of progs yesterday on Daily Kos who were asking why the boy king would invoke executive privilege if there’s nothing to cover-up.

Anyone on the left or right who thinks this won’t have a detrimental effect on the boy king’s chance for reelection is fooling themselves.

Come January, Obama will not go gentle into that good night. Will probably offer himself a Presidential Pardon, as well.

Flora Duh on June 21, 2012 at 8:57 AM

Frankly, I’m surprised at how many people, even pundits, who make the claim they knew nothing about F&F until these contempt charges emerged. I’m not that much of a wonk and I at least knew about it although I didn’t spend much time with some of the details in the process of gun walking firearms to Mexican drug cartels.

I do think that Obama made a mistake in jumping in to protect Holder unless there are documents that would be the smoking gun pointing to White House involvement long before Obama made the claim that he heard something about it from news reports (which we all know is a lie). But absent something more substantive, as far as the election goes, this is a minor ding to Obama’s character and not much else. This is an economics election.

I was listening to Caplis & Silverman out here in Denver yesterday. They had this caller who kept saying he trusted Obama and was waiting for the administration to explain everything about F & F. The two hosts kept telling this fool that everything is being hidden and no one is explaining anything, and this guy just kept saying he was waiting until “the administration” ( notice he never says Obama) told us what we need to know. And these people can actually vote!? Scary stuff.

What really brought Nixon down was the unexplainable 17 minute lapse in his secretary’s cassette tape. That created so much doubt in his claim not to be a crook, his house came tumbling down. There’s also this mentality that if a president does it, it’s not illegal. We do have a king at the top and have had one for decades.

I suspect there is a much higher correlation between the president and Congress being of the same party, or not, and the rate of claims of EP, –than there is simply for the number of claims vs the party of the president.

In other words, presidents only do this when the other party has at least one house in Congress.

This was a completely amateurish move. For some reason Obama must have thought that this would squelch the inquiry. I get that, given what an arrogant, narcissistic man he is. For a significantly less explicable reason he does not seem to have considered that this move puts him squarely in the middle of the controversy, because any claim of executive privilege necessarily runs thru the Oval Office.
