Karl Rove: Pelosi sounds like the “Mad Red Queen”

posted at 11:36 am on June 21, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Heh. Just to follow up on yesterday’s post, Karl Rove of course had a response for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s quip that “I could’ve arrested Karl Rove on any given day.” Actually, Rep. Pelosi, we live in the United States of America, and here, most of us are pretty big fans of this thing called the rule of law:

“The only way I could have been arrested is if the House adopted the resolution, which it did not,” the Republican operative and former adviser to President George W. Bush told Fox News on Wednesday night.

“So, it’s nice to know that Speaker Pelosi wanted to have me arrested. It’s nice to know that she thinks she had the power to but we’re still a nation of laws and she has no authority to do so and had she attempted to arrest on any of the number times that I was in and out of the Capitol, without a resolution passed by the entire House of Representatives she would have been up the proverbial creek without the proverbial paddle.”

“You know, she sounds a little bit like Inspector Clouseau and a little bit about the Mad Red Queen, but Speaker Pelosi was dead wrong in her assertion today and I’m sure she had a good laugh and it’s nice to know that she dreams of slapping me in her own personal jail. But she didn’t have any authority to do it,” Rove said.

A House committee did vote to hold Rove in contempt in 2008 for not responding to subpoenas concerning the firings of U.S. attorneys, but the vote never reached the full House floor. Sorry, Pelosi, but you don’t have the power to go around arresting people just because it feels good — although, apparently, she was much too high-minded and beneficent to actually exercise her imagined authority. (And, I might point out, unlike in Operation Fast & Furious, nobody died in Karl Rove’s case.)

The democrats would throw us all into “re-education camps” if they could get away with it.

Actually Congress has more authority to throw an Eric Holder in jail than they would a Karl Rove. Rove didn’t hold a Constitutional office. He wasn’t a cabinet head. He wasn’t CONFIRMED by the Senate. His job didn’t involve functions that had Congressional oversight.

If Stretch Pelosi could have put Rove in jail, then that means Boehner can have Valerie Jarret arrested too.

Pelosi, we live in the United States of America, and here, most of us are pretty big fans of this thing called the rule of law

The Democrats today aren’t big on the law. The Constitution, Ginsburg doesn’t like it much. Immigrants, legal or illegal, all the same to them. Obama likes to quote the Bible, like of “the least of them”, to justify doing whatever he likes. He’s not big on: “It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid”.

SouthernGent on June 21, 2012 at 11:49 AM

That’s a cute response by Rove. That whole Pelosi statement was odd (surprising, I know), and seems like it could have implications she probably didn’t intend. Is she tacitly agreeing that Holder’s behavior has been criminal (kind of a tu quoque type accusation), or is she claiming to have knowingly allowed Rove’s alleged criminal behavior to continue with impunity? Neither interpretation really casts her statement in a very good light.

Someone should mention one word that makes all the difference. MURDER.
A federal agent was MURDERED while on duty. Just like if a cop had been shot during a traffic stop.
This wasn’t a bureaucratic over reach. This was a MURDER.

Now, let’s talk about between 200 and 300 innocent men, women and children MURDERED by these guns in Mexico. President Munchausen helped arm a group attempting to overthrow a democracy. In international law, that can be considered an act of WAR.

Interesting article concerning Congressional jail and contempt.

Excerpt:

Under this process, the procedure for holding a person in contempt involves only the chamber concerned. Following a contempt citation, the person cited for contempt is arrested by the Sergeant-at-Arms for the House or Senate, brought to the floor of the chamber, held to answer charges by the presiding officer, and then subject to punishment that the House may dictate (usually imprisonment for punishment reasons, imprisonment for coercive effect, or release from the contempt citation).
