ABC World News leads tonight with … the northeast heat wave?

posted at 9:37 pm on June 20, 2012 by Allahpundit

I mentioned this in the Williams thread and have been waiting for them to post the full episode online so that I can confirm it, but they’ve only posted the individual segments for the moment. Mark Halperin insists that it’s true, though, as do several commenters in the other thread. Plus, if you go the World News home page, you’ll see that the heat wave segment is listed first, followed immediately by that little matter involving the Attorney General being cited for contempt by a House committee after he refused to provide documents about the government’s gunrunning operation.

I hate to slag a network that has the good sense to employ Tapper — and as you’ll see, his segment on it is fine (apart from Sawyer insisting that the operation was “botched”) — but I can’t understand why they wouldn’t lead with it. It’s not simple partisan bias; they did cover the story, and their segment treated it with more gravitas than Brian Williams’s intro did on NBC. It can’t be that they’re letting viewer interest guide them either: If networks were in the habit of leading with the stuff that the audience was most curious about rather than the stuff that’s most important, the Kardashians would be the lead segment every night. So what’s the explanation? CBS was lame too in not leading with F&F, but at least they replaced it with a real story, not the standard “hey, have you been outside today?” wonderment that seizes newscasters whenever the weather is unseasonable.

Gee… Allah was expecting the rest of the country to give a f34king monkey’s bollock about some partisan grandstanding in Congress.

Ever listened to ABC News on the radio during Rush or Hannity? They take “bias” to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL!

UnderstandingisPower on June 21, 2012 at 12:07 AM

That’s an individual station decision. Where I listen to Rush the national news segments are Fox News. Call them and complain.

Warm days in June in New England is unseasonable?

Trying to ascribe the word “seasonable” to New Endland weather is a fool’s errand.

We routinely have a one-off 60-degree day in December. 90 degree days in late June are fairly routine.

.
If you look at this operation as a portion of an effort to establish more restrictive gun control laws in the US, it was “botched”. It would help if Sawyer was to offer her explanation of why she uses that term. Could she be admitting the operation did not continue to the desired outcome – more gun control?

Well here in the South, otherwise known to the liberal enclaves of NYC and DC as Dumbf***istan, 95 degrees and humid in June is pretty . . . ordinary. So we’re unimpressed by their hand wringing propaganda. Especially since so far, this summer is shaping up to be pretty mild compared to what is typical. We have barely broken into the 90s at all so far, and by this time last year, we were into our 100+ degree streak that lasted several weeks. In fact, it’s been downright cool in the mornings; very pleasant for running and dog walking. So much for global warming I guess.

What the hell do you expect? Diane Sawyer is just a high dollar mouth piece. I saw her anitgun special the network advertised all that week. It laid everything out planely, so the simple clingers could hopefully understand guns did not make them safe.
I thought how appropriate. She’s probably a dozen deep in armed guards 24/7. Arrogant fool that’s slapped on the screen every week nite for my viewing pleasure. It’s like “F Troop” never really got cancelled.

Be glad ABC couldn’t find the sock puppets they led with to ignore the ACCORN scandal. Their viewers would still be in the dark.

onomo on June 21, 2012 at 6:53 AM

Now try to imagine it was Ashcroft being held in contempt of Congress.

ABC would have talked about nothing else for the rest of the week.

TallDave on June 21, 2012 at 7:08 AM

Well ABC is part of the MFM which resides in the Nation of Politicalhackistan. It is a small third-world country that is beloved of tyrants who treat them like the children they are and that is always upset when the cheap, glib, populist and socialist agenda isn’t catered to. While there are one or two good people stuck in Politicalhackistan, they are overwhelmed by the nomeklatura of the top of the hour talking heads who can’t figure out what to do when a beloved of them actually gets in hot water. Thus they can only relegate segments to later in the program when a BIG STORY slips by them for MONTHS and only let that percolate to the surface once the blood in the water is obvious along with the fins slicing through it.

THEN and only then will it make top of the hour presentation.

Usually in summer.

This explains shark attack stories.

And political coverage.

And the declining income of the powers that be running Politicalhackistan as the viewers flee to more timely, more accurate and more insightful analysis and reporting by those staging a rebellion on other fronts.

Hundreds of Mexicans and a border patrol agent killed by weapons given to drug lords by the ATF. Holder has personally been caught in a lie to Congress (claiming he had only recently heard of F&F). And the DoJ has in general been caught in a lie (claiming they didn’t let any guns walk).

So the real questions are why are you so racist an unfeeling to not care about the deaths of hundreds of Mexicans facilitated by the American government and what happened to the most transparent presidency ever?

lexhamfox on June 21, 2012 at 12:21 AM

At least the media’s being consistent right? They hardly covered Bush’s executive privilege claims regarding the firing of political appointees in the DoJ. We can stop worrying that the media is filled with hacks with the sure knowledge that they are deeply concerned about not propagating partisan grandstanding.

gwelf on June 21, 2012 at 8:17 AM

Because we in flyover country really do give massive amounts of flying flukes when it hits 90 in Washington DC.

Really.

They act as if it’s never been hot before. Maybe they wanted to lead up to agw. Wait til the electric gets cut back when Mr. Smart Power shuts down all their coal fired power plants, and they can’t use the AC. It’s been unseasonably cold here in the great NW. Finally supposed to break 80 today. Now, what is F&F all about?

Kissmygrits on June 21, 2012 at 9:44 AM

“Our extreme weather team” fanning out across the N.E., LOL!

A whole team of reporters who report, “It’s summer. It’s hot.” What a crackerjack news organization!

This morning the stories were Alex baldwin beating up a photog and do purses contain lead.
Nothing about F&F or the jobs numbers. I wonder why ?
we all know there is no media bias.
