No charges from grand jury for Texas dad who beat daughter’s molester to death

posted at 9:56 pm on June 19, 2012 by Allahpundit

C’mon. Navel-gazing about the fine line between self-defense and voluntary manslaughter is fun, but was there ever really any doubt?

Flores was killed June 9 on a family ranch so remote that the father is heard profanely screaming at a dispatcher who couldn’t locate the property.

“Come on! This guy is going to die on me!” the father yells. “I don’t know what to do!”…

The tense, nearly five-minute 911 call begins with the father saying that he “beat up” a man found raping his daughter. The father grows increasingly frazzled, cursing and crying into the phone so loudly at times that the call often becomes inaudible.

At one point tells the dispatcher he’s going to put the man in his truck and drive him to a hospital before sheriff’s deputies finally arrive.

“He’s going to die!” the father screams. “He’s going to (expletive) die!”

Follow the link for background, including the fact that the molester was seen carrying the little girl off and ended up with his pants and underwear around his ankles, just in case you were wondering how bad his abuse of her got. The father’s also apparently highly regarded by those who know him, as you’re about to see in the clip, so there would have been plenty of character witnesses on his behalf at trial. The only hope the prosecution had of an indictment was some sort of evidence, forensic or otherwise, that the father had beaten the guy vindictively after he was powerless to resist, which would have blurred the line on self-defense. Instead, the 911 call suggested the opposite — that dad was genuinely horrified that he had killed the guy, notwithstanding what he had done to his daughter. It’s said of grand juries that they’ll indict a ham sandwich if the prosecution asks them to. Not only couldn’t the D.A. meet that standard here, I don’t think they were even close.

No, the navel-gazing wasn’t that much fun either. The law was followed and the correct decision was made. Not even that big of a deal in Texas. We have go to beta-yankee news organizations to read about it.

Um, Texas law clearly allows for self-defense…of one’s self or another person. Clearly the standard of the law could not be met here. Please cite the law(s) that allow Obama to do the things he does (and no, creative, “living, breathing” interpretations don’t count).

It really sucks for liberals when laws actually work, doesn’t it? Legal positivism will get you burned.

In the closing arguments the defense attorneys claimed Williams and Watson were being used as scapegoats for the L.A. riots.

After a few jury changes, a hung jury resulted for all charges except a felony count of mayhem for Williams, and one misdemeanor assault charge for both Williams and Watson on October 18. Watson was then given credit for time served and was released. The families of the defendants celebrated the lesser sentences.

As I said…Not a chance in hell

Texas Rancher Beats Child Molester To Death

I lived in Texas for close to 20 years, worked the oil field, construction, and a whole host of other jobs. I was even a state Juvenile Corrections officer for a couple of years. Graduated from Texas A & M with a B.S. in Sociology and have a AA in mostly nothing useful. When I read this story and later listened to the quivering outrage from a few liberals outside the state wanting the Rancher to face a Grand Jury and be charged with a crime, I had to laugh. I have a better chance of being taken bodily into heaven and sitting at Gods right hand than this man has of being charged with a crime. In a few of the big cities it might have happened, maybe and that’s a big maybe. This however happened in Shinner Texas and in Shinner they make a pretty good beer and cows, lots of cows. I have more than a passing acquaintance with both and with the people who make the beer and raise the cows. Here’s a simple rule of thumb, folks in Texas don’t much like thieves, child molesters, murders, muggers rapists and the like and if while engaged in the practice of said activities someone has a really bad crime day they don’t much give a rat ass how he or she came to have that really bad crime day. So if crime is your chosen profession I suggest practicing your profession somewhere else. That bad crime day could be yours if you decide to make Texas your home.

God bless this man and his daughter. Killing someone, no matter what they did to you or your family, is never soul settling, on the contrary, it is unsettling, as is clear from the guy’s 911 call. It is something, too, that this little girl will never be able to forget, despite her young age.

Yet, if I had a daughter and had seen this happening on my ranch, the perp would’ve lived a whole lot longer, so long in fact that he would have been begging for death before I ultimately gave him a chance for it.

There would be not a tool in the barn he would not have been introduced to, slowly and deeply, and some of them pre-heated in the fireplace and placed in areas we would not want to think about. There would have not been a 911 call in the end, never, but a very long night of his digging his grave and then being thrown into it and covered with dirt, still half-alive, writhing in pain.

I love traveling to a lot of fair places in our great country, but there is nowhere else I would live.

I grew up about 100 miles from Shiner (literally a stone’s throw in Texas), have been there many times, and know exactly the kind of people who make up law enforcement and the grand jury there. They are my people–the kind that make me so proud of my state. I went to college in Austin. Well. That’s a whole other story.

I’m a Yankee, but no liberal. May just become a Texas Yankee when all is said and done.

This man protected his daughter, didn’t try to cover up the act and even tried to get help for the scum that tried to sexually abuse his daughter. The jury did the right thing and this man should be awarded a civic medal for doing what’s right.

Check Sperling’s Best Places online for demographics on everything from people to crime, health care to climate. Just enter the city and state you’ve got in mind. Good Luck.

Yet another reason to move to Texas. I’m thinking it’s going to come down to either one of the Dakotas, Texas or Indiana. Only reason I haven’t already moved to Texas is the heat. It doesn’t work too well for us fairer skinned types.

njrob on June 19, 2012 at 10:46 PM

Well, Pilgrim (*channeling John Wayne*), if you’re worried about the heat and your pasty skin, I’d say you’d be a lot happier in those wimpy-assed states you’d mentioned. Plus, they don’t have roaches big as skateboards or armadillos either, the poor bastards.

Note to libtards… If you assault a rancher’s daughter (of any age) all of the county will properly consider your actions, suicide.
