Good grief, you are thick. A free and prosperous society can afford to (and is likely to) clean up after itself without a gun to it’s head. Why? Because we want to live in a clean environment (even Republicans). We are living proof of that. You think that only the boot heel of government can cause people to do the right thing.
Unthinking like yours would have us oppressed and destitute and unable to clean up our messes. But you can’t see that because you refuse to look beyond your own prejudices.

Is it not self-evident that businesses that use fewer resources for a given process, incur less cost for the same price? The same revenue minus less cost means increased profit – the motive of the capitalist system. In the sciences, we see it as Eta – the mathematical definition of efficiency.

We’re not talking rocket science here; it’s Business 101. It’s older than dirt, usually written as the old saw “want not, waste not.” The notion that conservation must be mandated in order to come about is, frankly, a classically-fascist point of view (“All within, none without” – Mussolini).

Pushing policies that amount to small-f fascism suggests a base desire to control others. Do not be surprised if others take offense at your concern-trolling, using some nebulous notion of “the environment” as your fig-leaf.

Henry Waxman is one of the reasons California is in the mess it’s in now. His and his California henchmen’s policies have been tantamount to the murder of the State of California over the past 30 years. Almost all democrat (and a few republican) California politicians should be in jail, but they don’t have the funds for incarcerations in California anymore.
