Quotes of the day

posted at 9:31 pm on June 16, 2012 by Allahpundit

The new media rose up precisely because the old media failed to tell the truth. That very first new media breakthrough was about 15 years ago when this lowly little store clerk in a lowly little apartment equipped with his computer and a modem broke one of the biggest stories of the decade. His name was Matt Drudge and the rest is history. And in hindsight, we see that the story he broke was more than just a president having an affair. To me it was much, much more than that. It was about a major old media publication that had spiked the story eleven times. And they knew all about it. Eleven times! Not just once to check their facts. Not twice just to double-check. Eleven times they spiked the story. Why? Because as charter members of that Democrat Media Complex they were protecting their guy. So, when a fellow with a modem and a website found out about this, he decided to tell the truth they refused to tell. And oh how that old media cried foul and they howled. They denounced Drudge as irresponsible and unprofessional and even dangerous and anti-everything from motherhood to apple pie. How dare that nobody from nowhere without a degree or a pedigree try to influence the national discourse. But the real reason they feared him was because he wasn’t beholden to the old media’s machine and the Thought Police. Unshackled, he was free. And a few months later, Drudge got to speak at the National Press Club in DC. He predicted the future in his speech there. He said, “We have entered an era vibrating with the din of small voices. Every citizen can be a reporter, can take on the powers that be….I envision a future where there’ll be 300 million reporters, where anyone from anywhere can report for any reason. It’s freedom of participation absolutely realized.” Thus the birth of citizen journalism, and you are the future he predicted!

Palin was clearly a draw for many RightOnline attendees.

“We’re Palin patriots,” Susan Rodgers of Seattle, Wash., with her husband Prentice, to POLITICO. “The minute we heard that she was speaking, we signed up and bought tickets.”

“She’s recharging,” Prentice said, when asked if Palin was becoming less relevant losing in 2008 as John McCain’s running mate. “She’s reloading.”

“Don’t say that!” scolded his wife, jokingly.

“She’s targeting new opportunities,” Prentice said, laughing.

Also spotted at the Palin speech: a bag, owned by a conference attendee, with a bumper sticker that read, “Don’t Blame Me, I Voted For Palin!”

Good speech overall but Palin is wrong about which issue the ruling class used to distract from debt reduction: It wasn’t class warfare, Obama has always been about that, it was the bombing of Libya. The news was all about runaway spending one day and then suddenly we’re bombing Libya to help our new Al Qaeda allies, without explanation as though there was nothing odd about it, and the GOP went along without raising a fuss because it was a welcome diversion for them too, as Boehner admitted on Rush’s show he was never going to cut in any meaningful way in spite of his promise to the tea party in ’10.

That’s why they didn’t raise a fuss about it not being approved by Congress as they otherwise obviously would have.

I LOVE that woman and wish to hell she was running for president. GO SARAH!

Herb on June 16, 2012 at 9:47 PM

Ditto that Herb!

She is a fighter and tells the damn truth. Refreshing-
Her and Andrew Breitbart. Two of my hero’s and they make/made a difference.

They tried to destroy her and she kept on going and will not be intimidated or shut up. Not even to the McCain campaign-she kept fighting as they sabotaged her and rolled back and forth over her with an 18 wheeler. The woman has guts-like I have never seen. I am not sure I could have survived all that.
I also love her humor. She mocks them with the truth. Reminds me of someone..:)

I was lucky enough to go to her rallies in 2008. Something I won’t forget. The last one had Entertainment Tonight,Hasslebeck and Hannity there. When she spoke of the media- the entire place erupted with Boo’s and turned to the Entertainment Tonight stage set up. Screaming “liars” BOOOOOOO.
Funny, they didn’t air that part. :) Also, a huge banner above hanging saying Hillary sent me and shirts saying Another Democrat for McCain Palin. They clipped that out too.

Thx for the video and top 10 quotes from the speech. Per usual, she knocked it out of the park.

Dont blame me either, I voted for Palin. Helped my gag reflex voting for Johnny Mac.

Palin said if the media had vetted Obama, “they would have known that Obama hung out with anti-American intellectuals” and was “actually a member of the socialist New Party when he ran for state office in the 1990s.”
Palin then had more fun at the expense of the mainstream media, pointing out that they were much more interested in her husband Todd’s party history (he is a registered independent) than the fact that Obama was tied to a socialist party.
“Todd sure as heck never registered as a Socialist,” Palin said with a grin.

Because of McLame’s debacle, I think she made the right choice to sit out this election. She WILL be there in a future election. For now, she is our best asset. She’ll take it to the left and hold the right accountable.

Sarah Palin is the bright spot in politics. Truth and courage with a smile.

And she does this after almost four years of the media and politicians alternating between dismissing her and trying to shred her and her family. Most of them would never have survived what she has been through. But she’s the one who has them gnashing their teeth.

INC on June 16, 2012 at 10:56 PM

I LOVE that woman and wish to hell she was running for president. GO SARAH!

Herb on June 16, 2012 at 9:47 PM

You and me both. It’s a shame. I think Sarah could’ve walked away with the nomination and handed Maobama a major defeat.

Many moderates will she Sarah would’ve been too polarizing but I’ll never agree. We need a real conservative fighter who provides the sharpest contrast possible to Maobama.

Too bad she didn’t run. That being said I will always admire Sarah for all she’s done for our cause. She is a great warrior, a great mom, and an amazing person.

KOOLAID2 on June 16, 2012 at 10:57 PM

Was among the first to get DSL, back when you had to live real close to a main hub. Some nights there was more data going out than being downloaded.

I didn’t have a c/d burner on my computer, and was running Windows 98. I hooked up an old boom box with some cables and recorded the songs on cassettes.

Divergent.

It’s like Hunger Games only better and takes place in Chicago.

JPeterman on June 16, 2012 at 10:52 PM

My sister gave me the first Hunger Games novel to read the other day. I read the synopsis and asked her if it was based on Battle Royale, but she didn’t know what I was talking about.

Divergent sounds interesting, I wonder how deep it gets, philosophically, into the different factions.

cmsinaz on June 16, 2012 at 10:59 PM

Like Palin, Allahpundit has risen in the intellectual ranks of the Republican Party. Correct me if I’m wrong but these two individuals of superior intellect see the old media for what it was, minus the computer of course. Just like they see Obama’s spending, minus the economic meltdown. Again, of course. Context escapes them! But will not this superior reasoning scare the hell out of independents and result in the election of Obama for a second term? Remember, we can’t repeat the mistakes of 2008.

angrymike on June 16, 2012 at 11:01 PM

Because of McLame’s debacle, I think she made the right choice to sit out this election. She WILL be there in a future election. For now, she is our best asset. She’ll take it to the left and hold the right accountable.

4Grace on June 16, 2012 at 10:52 PM

…that’s why I’m not heartbroken!…(I’m sorta lying)…but you are right!

They denounced Drudge as irresponsible and unprofessional and even dangerous and anti-everything from motherhood to apple pie. How dare that nobody from nowhere without a degree or a pedigree try to influence the national discourse.

Sounds strangely like Juan “You’re just a Blogger” Williams and his obama jizz bucket tied to his left leg.

Good evening!
