Video: Boomtown, North Dakota

posted at 4:56 pm on June 13, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

While the Obama administration continues to limit access to America’s bountiful natural resources through scant permitting and chokehold-worthy regulations, they continue to deny Americans the material abundance that would come with tapping those resources. The opportunity costs of their high-minded dictates are manifold, as we daily miss out on creating a bunch of productive private-sector jobs, producing new wealth, and growing our GDP, as well as increasing the government’s revenue stream.

Last week, I posted on the GOP’s ongoing effort to get the Obama administration to hustle on expanding drilling access with their Domestic Energy and Jobs Act — a measure that would allow private individuals to work wonders for our economy, hardly any government involvement necessary. Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy talked up North Dakota as a perfect example of the type of opportunities the oil and gas industry can offer, and his office just produced a vid demonstrating how swimmingly things are going on the ground there.

The state unemployment rate in North Dakota right now, you ask? Three percent. (That’s the lowest in the country, by the way.) But, by all means, let’s just keep “investing” more taxpayer money into green energy projects; I’m sure that’ll create jobs eventually if we just keep at it long enough. Or something.

Good luck ND. Having to deal with bho/epa might be a real problem for you? You see, can’t have a state making money from our God given oil/gas/coal/shale now can we?

Here in TX the Eagleford Shale is doing very nice also. The problem, they can’t find enough people who know how to do this or pass the drug test.

If states will file suit against the epa etc. to get jobs going, make people money(I mean every person involved, diners, etc.) JOBS will be had! But NO bho/epa is he!! bent on stopping all this for ‘green krap’ and foto’s!

Higher employment and higher wages bring their own problems!” Obama Rationalization Syndrome.

Look for stories in the media to highlight the perils of booming economies.

Anything to help Barry keep his lousy job.

According to the enviro-nazis, the whole thing should be shut down because of one nut-job who killed a man on his way to work in the Bakken:

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2018406580_apushitchhikershooting.html

“As the men await trial in the murder of teacher Sherry Arnold, the case has stoked worries that a once-quiet corner of Montana has been irreversibly altered by the oil boom. Crime rates across western North Dakota and eastern Montana have spiked as thousands of workers flock to a region that has become one of the top-oil producing areas of the country.”

This is the kind of stunted child-logic we are dealing with in these environmental zealots. If thousands of people flock to a mostly deserted patch of badlands, OF COURSE THE CRIME RATE IS GOING TO INCREASE.

I wonder what the % of folks on welfare in ND would be?

…are JugEars people and the EPA trying to figure out a way… on how to F U North Dakota yet?

KOOLAID2 on June 13, 2012 at 5:14 PM

I want to see the GOP go after Obama and the Democrats on their claimed position as the party of the poor and middle-class.

No one is hurt more from high energy prices than these groups and the Obama administration is assaulting ALL forms of conventional energy in this country and waging a virtual war on these people.

High fuel prices hit consumers directly at the pump but also at the store. As a logistics expert for a retailer I can tell you that fuel prices are a big component of our price and rising fuel prices make t challenging to offer Everyday Low Prices.

The same can be said for electricity. Consumers are getting whacked at home and at the store. Like fuel, the cost of electricity is passed on to consumers in the cost of goods.

And of course, it’s those on the lower end of the economic ladder that feel it the most.

So let’s go after the Leftists for their economic assault on the poor. Exposé the Dems and the damage their energy hostility causes.

In a ranking of welfare caseloads that includes Puerto Rico, DC, US Virgin Islands, North Dakota ranks #50 with a little over 8,000 on welfare in the entire state.

Regardless, it’s in Obama’s best interest to keep them on welfare. A job boom in a red state producing something of tangible value to all Americans has to be an absolute nightmare for Barack “energy prices will necessarily skyrocket” Obama.

Once LaRaza, Black Panthers and moozies hear about the prosperity of N Dakota, they’ll dump so many of their patrons on that state that N Dakota’s welfare ranking will be like CA or NY ….a few more years my friend !

Same in ND and for offshore on the drug testing.

One thing different between Bakken and Eagle Ford is the ability to get the produced crude to refineries. In TX it is a hop skip and jump. There is little refining capacity in ND but one nice but small (50,000 bpd) refinery. Yes there are a few in nearby states but they are all fairly small.

Even my small software company in Texas has been approached about providing software and doing professional services for Bakken. I hope Romney takes a trip out there and makes a big deal about the jobs and the economic boom going on.

I wanna move there to, eh? Naw, but my company has moved an installation there also. Wtg ND, let’s see if obummer takes credit for your prosperity.

It’s great how ND is booming, but why were the voters stupid enough to vote against cancelling property taxes? For voting like that, they belong in Illinois.

Eventually the “Boom” goes away..it always does.

Back in the mid 70′s, my brother used to chase rigs (welder)in NE Wyoming..he did it for a long time, had his own business..and the great oil glut in the mid 80′s stuck a pin in the oil exploration business….pretty much killed it dead and it’s never recovered.

A whole lotta people went bust..

On a related note, the federal government has opted not to include the dunes sagebrush lizard on the endangered species list.

The Associated Press report calls the decision “surprising”, which it is given Team Obama’s normal attitude towards oil drilling and the environment. But while most of the complaints on how the listing would hurt oil drilling in the Texas portion of the lizard’s habitat, most of the area is actually in New Mexico, which hints that despite the current polls showing Obama with a wide lead over Romney in N.M., Team Obama is worried enough that a negative action against the state’s energy industry could cause blowback in November.

Last week, I was on a plane sitting next to a fella from MS who was returning home from his gig in the oil fields of ND. In the course of our conversation, he mentioned he had been working the oil fields and rigs for over 20 years. I thought it to be odd that he would be working in ND. I guess the obscenity that has been done to the oil industry in the Gulf of Mexico has made even those in MS have to go to ND to work.

He, also, told me that they are shorthanded in ND. So, any of you who would like a six figure job in the oil fields, get your butts up there!

kakypat on June 13, 2012 at 8:41 PM

I live and work out in those ND oilfields and it is a very exciting place to be.

You’re welcome up here but, you’d best bring your own place to live. The problem with our boom is there is a housing shortage.
As for Zippy’s welfare peeps….a little taste of our winters will take care of that problem!
