Lanny Davis blasts “vicious people working for the President”

posted at 3:31 pm on June 9, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Via BuzzFeed and Matt Lewis, here’s the latest in blue-on-blue political warfare from Lanny Davis, literally one of Bill Clinton’s most ardent defenders.  Davis presented the defense during Clinton’s impeachment trial and has been loyal to both Clinton and the Democrats for decades.  At some point this week, those loyalties ceased to be redundant as the Obama team humiliated the former President and even had Clinton’s own team insinuating that he might be a little too old to be taken seriously any longer — at age 65.  An Obama administration official told the New York Post that Newark Mayor Cory Booker was “dead to us” despite humbling himself in what was widely panned as a “hostage video” after contradicting the Obama campaign’s Bain Capital-”vampire capitalist” strategy.

Speaking yesterday on “America’s Radio News Network,” Davis blasted Obama’s teams in the administration and the campaign, and wondered where they’d find any friends after this week:

“You have vicious people who are working for the president — not the president [himself] — who are saying that Corey Booker — one of the great supporters of President Obama’s policies — is ‘dead’ because he’s giving the president good advice, disagreeing with the Kool-Aid drinking people in the campaign who think the way to win the presidency is to trash the other guy rather than to defend your own guy’s record. …”

“[W]hy would they want to create enemies, or depict people as enemies, who are their friends?”

Not the President himself?  Is Davis sure about that?  After all, he’s the man in charge, the one who hired these “vicious people” in the first place.  Are we to believe that Lanny Davis thinks it’s an accident that we have Chicago-on-the-Potomac now, or is he just noticing it because they’re now going after Democrats?  If it’s really the former, it’s worthy of a Captain Louis Renault award:

More to the point, we are now seeing Democrats melt down into disarray.  Remember when the conventional wisdom was that a Mitt Romney nomination would split the GOP and the Tea Party, leaving Barack Obama with a united Democratic Party and Left-Labor activist base?  The opposite has proven true — the pressure of a poor economy and rising anger from voters has now split the Democratic Party, while Romney has united the Right.  There is a lot of time between now and the election and conditions can change rapidly, but Davis is right about the imminent meltdown.  In fact, it may have already started this week.

Lanny, you are a loyal Clinton friend and supporter, obviously loyal enough to take this swipe at Zero and Co. as a way to get back at Zero for what he did to Bubba this week. Go ahead and say it – Barack Obama is vicious and he directs his underlings to act vicious on his behalf.

Not that it needs to be said, because Americans are catching on to what the Obamas really are.

If the Clintons were smart, they’d disrancs themselves from Zero or else they’ll be framed for the national security leaks (along with Joe Biden) and every other rotten thing Zero can blame on them.

Obama has proven over and over, he will throw anyone under the bus as long as it means he doesn’t get any dirt on himself.

That only works as long as you can keep the perception that you are hitting all the right buttons, Obama’s economic policies, social policies and foreign policy are all being seen as having bad results or are failing and all those have been maginified in the past few months with jobs, debts, obamacare and the middle east, Russia and China.

It’s amazing it took this long for things to start backfiring.

Obama himself is monomaniacal, focused on the one goal of weakening America as a world power permanently, to please the memory of his father and his mentors. Saddling the taxpayers with unsustainable debt, stifling productivity, and promising unending entitlements are his method. He is not stupid, he simply hates this country, and will continue to kneecap it until has last breath.

That’s crap. Romney has done nothing to unite the Right, and he cannot, because people know he’s a weasel seeking power for its own sake. Obama has united the right, because it’s better to have that weasel – who will be subject to our political pressure – than the committed, ideological Leftist Obama.

But a second Romney term, when he won’t be as vulnerable to political pressure, will be a problem. That’s why our first priority has to be to get as many pro-liberty Republicans in Congress as possible.

I’d say that Obama has done the opposite of what he should have – split the Democratic Party due to his incompetence and indifference and has united the Right. Romney is just the beneficiary of the right, all inclusive) agreeing that Obama has to go.

All the credit goes to Obama at this point. If Romney can continue to run a shrewd campaign then he will also gain real support and not just the “getting rid of the bigger evil” support, which is mainly what he has now.

Schadenfreude on June 9, 2012 at 7:10 PM

The funny thing is that he wants Obama to run on ‘his record’. First he has never once even had a record to run on, his campaign is in virgin territory on this one. Now he actually has a record of…. 3+ years of utter failure and Davis wants him to run on that?

Healthcare? The Stimulus? Davis really thinks this will win Zero the election?

Team O is doing the only thing they have available and that’s what they’ve always had. Lies, negativity, and a sycophantic media. Obama had no problem throwing his pastor, his church, and his friggin grandmother under the bus in the 1st election. Davis thinks they’re going to give a crap about Corey Booker or Bill Clinton?

SittingDeadRed on June 9, 2012 at 7:13 PM

Davis is also employed by the Philadelphia based law firm of Dilworth Paxson L.L.P.

Del Dolemonte on June 9, 2012 at 5:19 PM

Is he really at Dilworth?

JohnGalt23 on June 9, 2012 at 6:22 PM

He works out of their D.C. office.

Del Dolemonte on June 9, 2012 at 7:15 PM

You are absolutely right about that! He would be a guest on the G. Gordon Liddy radio show and defend Clinton and argue with decency, honesty and logic.

ExpressoBold on June 9, 2012 at 3:51 PM

Let’s not get carried away, the Clintons did not exactly play by the Marquis de’ Queensbury rules either. Obama is so bad, we can jokingly say we miss the Clintons, but in reality Lanny Davis was equally as smarmy and ruthless as many in the current administration, he just worked for Don Clinton rather than Don Obama.

Love seeing the democrat mafia wars in progress though; as others have said, pass the popcorn.

But a second Romney term, when he won’t be as vulnerable to political pressure, will be a problem. That’s why our first priority has to be to get as many pro-liberty Republicans in Congress as possible.

BCrago66 on June 9, 2012 at 4:06 PM

What second term?

Mitt did not seek a second term in Mass.

I doubt Mitt intends on a second term. He does not need the money.

This if the first office Romney is running for as an actual Republican. In Mass that registration was just a technicality.

Mitt is far from proving to many of us he is even a Republican let alone uniting the party.

Steveangell on June 9, 2012 at 7:23 PM

He hasn’t done it, but they united, good enough, like in Wisconsin.

Mitt missed a huge historical opportunity by not showing up with Gov. Walker at a factory. Now, that would have been courageous.

He and Obama are two weasels, one way worse than the other.

Schadenfreude on June 9, 2012 at 4:43 PM

What would Romney have brought here, seriously?

Same with Obama- Does anyone think other than more media circus (which is hard to believe at times) that any political candidate would have brought anything to the fight? All it would have done was divert attention away from the Walker or Tom as they ran for the office as the talk would have turned to whichever Presidential candidate was here. But the race wasn’t about them. Hell, even Clinton couldn’t draw any big numbers in his visit in Milwaukee which is bluer than blue.

I have to just disagree and say that things here were a big enough show without bringing in someone else to steal some limelight and whose presence would have changed the line of questioning from “What are your plans to do if elected (or re-elected) Governor to “What do you think about the person standing next to you.” Sorry, but this was our fight and we didn’t need the focus to go sprawling out to “Oh look, so and so is here, let’s change it to them.”

Betenoire on June 9, 2012 at 7:29 PM

What would Romney have brought here, seriously?

Hmmm.

You are right on the rest of course.

Wonder if Romney was disinvited.

But that is doubtful. Maybe Mitt could care less about uniting the Party.

Steveangell on June 9, 2012 at 7:35 PM

Lanny, What did you expect from a Marxist who plays by the Saul Alinsky playbook? You know what they say about people who lay down with dogs….

lea on June 9, 2012 at 8:38 PM

The vicious guys think Obama should attack Romney, and therefore anyone who defends Romney must have their neck ripped apart by attack dogs. Clearly a losing position. Along comes the eminence grise of the Democrat Party with the solution. Obama should run on his record. Cough, choke. What record Lanny? Obamacare? It’s about to be overturned? Dodd-Frank? That’s just more class-warfare pandering, which already hasn’t worked. Jobs created and saved? Have you looked at the jobs lost? That haven’t come back? THERE. IS. NO. RECORD.

If this is the best the sage heads of the Donks can come up with. . .
stick a fork in Obama, he’s done.

smellthecoffee on June 9, 2012 at 10:06 PM

Let us be clear. Mitt Romney has not united the GOP. He has most assuredly not united conservatives.

The presidency of Barack Obama, now that’s a different story.

Most of you have heard it before, but it bears repeating. To paraphrase the great Thomas Sowell, Mitt Romney could never get me to vote for Mitt Romney. Barack Obama will get me to vote for Mitt Romney.

It’s fun watching the commies eat their own.

Hope the Dems meltdown/split doesn’t lead to Hillary’s nomination at their convention. They owe her after she took one for the team in 2008.
