Does Nancy Pelosi always have to be a jerk?

posted at 8:01 am on June 9, 2012 by Jazz Shaw

Politico went out of their way this week to run one of those touchy-feely, tug at your heartstrings stories which is sure to have us all feeling better about the future, singing Bob Dylan tunes and doing trust falls outside of the congressional cloakrooms. It was the 25th anniversary of Nancy Pelosi serving in Congress, and Steny Hoyer joined in with Speaker John Boehner to mark the moment.

After a generation in the rough-and-tumble world of Capitol Hill, few things in politics surprise House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi these days.

But she was caught off guard Thursday when the House temporarily stopped its work so House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) could pay tributes to her on the House floor marking her 25th anniversary in Congress.

It was a rare, warm-and-fuzzy moment in the normally partisan chamber as Boehner and Pelosi shared a hug and Hoyer recalled the first time he met Pelosi (in 1962, in the office of former Sen. Daniel Brewster, D-Md.).

Awww… that’s just touching, isn’t it? Politico goes on to talk warmly about the many compliments being showered upon everyone involved and the general sense of “What a Wonderful Life” which imbued the hallowed chamber. And John Boehner actually was very flattering (in a professional way) and cordial to his rival. But I was watching the video this morning and caught the end of former Speaker Pelosi’s remarks. The video follows, along with a partial transcript. You can fast forward to the 13:15 mark to hear them, unless you’d prefer to sit through Steny comparing Pelosi to Thomas Jefferson.

So I thank you Mr. Speaker for your kind words. While, as you said, we did not always agree on taxes, we did at one time when President Bush was President. And we worked together at that time when we worked on his stimulus package which was tax oriented, you’ll remember that, and it was good for the country, and it was a good model for us to go forward.

Really? Everyone in the chamber is in the middle of singing your praises, including the leader of the other party, and you have to take a moment out to get in a shot about how “wrong” he is about not wanting to jack up everyone’s taxes? For an occasion such as this you might think that simply thanking your family and all of your constituents for their many years of support would suffice. Or, if you wanted to get in a good natured shot at the opposition, something along the lines of, “Watch out because I’ll be looking to take that gavel back this November” would do. Everyone would have laughed and nobody would have criticized you for it. (In fact, she did include a comment about it “not being fun” to give the gavel back to Boehner after that, but she could easily have left it there.)

She also apparently didn’t think the list of credits tacked on to her name were sufficient, since after she had been referred to as the “first woman Speaker of the House” she jumped in to add, “First Italian-American Speaker of the House, first Maryland Speaker of the House, first California Speaker of the House… many firsts.”

OK. We get the point. You’re a legend.

My dad used to be fond of using a phrase from his days in the Army which referenced people who were so messed up that they could, “*** up a soup sandwich.” I still don’t really know what that means, but today I think it really applies to Pelosi.

What a horrible woman…

Yes, the answer is yes. She does always have to be a jerk because that is the way of her world. Make her go away. Far, far away.

In answer to your headline, yes, pretty much! There aren’t enough words to sing that woman’s praise, if you ask her. But frankly, I can’t think of a single good thing to say about her so I’ll shut up now.

scalleywag on June 9, 2012 at 8:09 AM

A disgrace to Italian-Americans everywhere, but unfortunately, joining some of her peers like the Cuomo “men” (Mario & Andrew) and Geraldina Ferrari. A cousin of mine went to high school with one of the Cuomo daughters. My uncle used to say that Mario was a no-good bum. I think he stopped there because we were little kids at the time, but I’m sure his uncensored remarks were more accurate. It makes me insane when people like that run around shouting about how “Catholic” they are, and then go and do the exact opposite of what a real Catholic should do. (And yes, I’m Italian and Catholic.)

JoAnn1965 on June 9, 2012 at 8:09 AM

1962 was probably the last year Nancy Pelosi actually thought like a real human, before her lobotomy. This woman gives me the creeps. As Dennis Miller says, she looks like she is perpetually watching the landing of the Hindenburg. Thanks for that headline on a morning when I should still be asleep.

When some of us refer to Nancy Pelosi as “nuts,” we are not using that word pejoratively. She really IS mentally deranged. There is something very wrong with her mind. She continues to display a complete disconnect from reality. In the cursive, she’s “nuts”.

A perfect example of why term limits needs to become part of this nation’s future. Even some folks in San Francisco are finally beginning to question her concern for the nation as a whole—leaving the extreme left of the Democratic Party as a poor example of the country’s direction.

scalleywag on June 9, 2012 at 8:18 AM

Pelosi is cause to demand competency evaluations and requirements to serve in and to continue to serve in Congress. Term limits are the answer to clear our nation of ongoing and future abuses in Congress by people such as Pelosi who are so clearly incompetent to the job if not in general where the public is concerned.

Without term limits, then some sort of ongoing evaluative testing for members who declare intentions to campaign for any re-election after, say, three terms.

Spot on – I keep telling people that Biden will, ever-so-nobly and with adoring high praise from the MSM, bow out of the race for “health reasons” (which will never be investigated) sometime after Romney announces his running mate. 2. She believes the engine of this country is the MIDDLE CLASS. Unlike the other party who believes if we somehow excuse the upper 1% from paying any taxes, they will reward the unwashed masses by throwing a few dollars around their way.

3. She believes big government should stop attacking women by enacting laws that takes away their freedom to choose.

4. She is not anti immigrant. Unlike the other party that’s proudly anti immigrant.

5. She doesn’t believe in attacking every nation just so we can enrich our government t**t sucking defense contractors.

Uppereastside on June 9, 2012 at 8:46 AM

Well duh, why do you think Republicans are working so hard to get the other party out of office?

Come on… Give her some slack. That was her first attempt at humor…. ever.

Does Nancy Pelosi always have to be a jerk?

Being a jerk requires no effort from her. It comes naturally to Princess Nancy. Socialists are by nature self-righteous finger-wagging jerks.

It would take much effort for her to try to be something she is not.

I’ll fly into Oakland, San Jose, or even Sacremento, but never San Fran. I sometimes have to do business there, but won’t spend the night or buy anything in San Fran. Not one dime

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, San Francisco was a nice place to live, an interesting and well kept, sophisticated city.

It all fell apart beginning with about 1969.

Now, when was the first time Pelosi was elected to public office?

Dianne Feinstein, who has been ensconsed in the Senate for years and years, the ultra Leftwinger from CA, Democrat of course, was the mayor of San Francisco then and for years afterward before moving on into the Senate.

No coincidences there.

“First Italian-American Speaker of the House, first Maryland Speaker of the House, first California Speaker of the House… many firsts.”

Waaaa…. You mean she is NOT Cherokee? Oh wait. That is the other one.

A snake will always want to bite you. The moral to this story is never try to pet a snake. No offense to real snakes. The rule should be, 25 and done.

Pelosi believes so much in the middle class that she hires people below minimum wage at her tuna fish cannery and to tend to her vineyard vines. Pschewww, middle class my arse.

All I can say to Boehner is, “are you serious?”. “Are you serious”?

And just think how many middle class people Pelosi saves from the trials and tribulations of living a middle class life by making their lives aborted as easily and swiftly as possible. Pschewww…saved several million from being alive in only last year alone!

When I talk to my dog and he looks at me and tilts his head listening intently having no idea what I’m saying…..I think I do the same thing when I hear Nancy speak…I know she’s talking but it just doesn’t make any sense.
