Rand Paul endorses Romney; Update: Video added

posted at 10:09 pm on June 7, 2012 by Allahpundit

I didn’t get to watch “Hannity” tonight but the Freepers say that it happened. So that’s what that meeting in late May was all about.

Dustin Siggins, one of our Greenroomers, interviewed Paul recently and asked him what he wants from a Romney presidency. Quote:

DS: There’s been talk about you being asked to be VP by Mitt Romney, especially in light of the meeting between the two of you in late May. What are the top three specific policy solutions you would like to see the GOP’s presumptive nominee and whomever he picks to be VP to focus on in the general election and subsequently sign into law if elected?

Sen. Rand Paul: I believe the number one threat to the nation is our debt. We have to balance the budget in a finite period of time, and it probably won’t happen until we get a Balanced Budget Amendment. Now, a President doesn’t sign a constitutional amendment, so I don’t know how much of a difference support from a President will make. But it will take a difference in governing. When we were in charge with Bush and in charge of both Houses, we doubled the size of Department of Education and expanded Medicare. Bush I expanded the wetlands nonsense. Will we do a better job with a GOP Administration and Congress in 2012? I hope so, and I’ve tried to get actively involved, including endorsing endorsed Ted Cruz in Texas and Mark Neumann in Wisconsin.

I think people are kidding themselves in speculating about Paul as VP. He has only two years of experience, would be demagogued even more gleefully by the left than Paul Ryan would for his willingness to make deep cuts, and almost certainly wants to preserve his independence from Romney’s inevitable shift towards the center. He won’t be on the ticket, but his endorsement is important in (hopefully) keeping Paul’s legions inside the tent in November. And it’s important to Rand too, of course, insofar as it means he’s a lock to speak at the convention now and can introduce himself to the country in anticipation of a future run. If you were worried about some sort of floor revolt among Paul-supporting delegates in Tampa, you probably don’t have to worry anymore.

I’ll post the video as soon as it’s available. Stand by.

Update: And here’s the video now.

Ever notice Paulbots have an aneurism when someone other than Paul says the words, “liberty” or “constitution”. For some reason they think Paul invented both of these and owns the rights to them.

It takes at least three generations of alcoholism and inbreeding to shrug off the importance of this endorsement. Whether you like it or not, 5-7% of Republicans (and likely higher percentage of Democrats and Independents) believe that Ron Paul would make a better President of the United States than either Romney or Obama. These people are politically active, mostly young, and highly volatile. If the endorsement will convince just 10% of them to pull the red lever instead of hugging their bongs, it’s a cool million votes in Romney’s piggy bank.

viking01 on June 7, 2012 at 11:55 PM

He won’t be on the ticket, but his endorsement is important in (hopefully) keeping Paul’s legions inside the tent in November.

It won’t matter. Unless Romney comes our way on Constitutional war or something there’s no reason to support him over Obama. Rand can endorse Romney all he wants, but I don’t care about personalities or even the candidate. I only care about and will vote on the philosophy of that candidate and how it’s consistent with ending government intervention.

Romney simply won’t do anything to stop government intervention and as such wars will continue, policing the world will continue, civil liberty destruction will continue and I cannot support any of that.

I’ll probably look toward Gary Johnson or someone third party. Nice knowing you GOP, but you’ve got McCain 2.0 on your hands and once again the debates will be a lost opportunity to truly defend limited government and illustrate the failures of intervention. Romney lacks the knowledge or passion to defend limited government. He’s a “moderate” at a time when we need extremism. For moderation is how we got here.

Rand Paul’s Romney Endorsement Fallout: Crazy Like Alex Jones

BREAKING NEWS!

One of PHUP’s Ron Paul readers — due to confidentiality rules, I can’t release his name /s — has been picked up by the police and transported to the emergency room. After examination, he has been put on a 72-hour hold and will be transferred to a maximum security, psychiatric hospital within the hour pending further evaluation by state psychiatrists and other mental health professionals.

He was found in the middle of a heavily-traveled, four-way intersection nude, but for a tinfoil hat and his Alex Jones’ double-secret, decoder ring mumbling, “Rand Paul is a traitor to ‘Freedom & Liberty!!!’ He’s a neo-con! Believes in fiat money! He is a slave to Israel, the Israel-Firster! And, has been bought off by Mitt Romney or subjected to Romney’s secret MK-ULTRA II mind-control and programmed to endorse him.”

Further updates may be forthcoming, but be assured, he is resting comfortably and he would like all of you to review his endless posts on Townall.com, HotAir.com, and DailyCaller.com about “real conservatives” (that would be you, only if you are voting for Ron Paul or staying home in November and banging your spoon on your high-chair in protest) while he is out-of-commission. Remember, it is better to write in Ron Paul or stay home in November and be an honourable loser than to support the “Mormon, Marxist Mitt” or “Muslim, Marxist Barack.” There is absolutely NO DIFFERENCE between either of them. They both hate America and are under the control of the New World Order, the Tri-Lateral Commission, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Bilderbergs, and the Trans-Humanism Cabal. None. Don’t believe me? Ask them.

All Oblamer needs is to put two more Kagan type shills on the Supreme Court, to keep Eric Holder’s destruction of Justice by Just-Us in place and the Constitution and Liberty will be memories for probably a couple generations or until the ChiComs arrive to collect debts. If we’re that lucky.

Remember that when you vote.

Rand will not be vp.

After changing my mind several times over the last 6 months I think it’s going to be JINDAL.

Jindal? Have ya’ll been snorting bath salts? I would take Rand Paul over the guy who bombed the state of the union response.

I like Rand. The old man on the other hand….

Errr… what?

Only a Ronbot would be sad at that miserable performance, normal folks fully expected Ron Paul to do poorly. Although few would have expected him to do that badly in his home district.

I mean, damn, the people who know Ron Paul the best, the voters of TX-14 – chose Romney more than 3-1 over him.

That has to sting.

If the Republican Party is serious about drastically cutting spending and regulation and moving toward true limited government, it MUST include libertarians and their ideas instead of chasing them to the Libertarian Party like Gary Johnson.

We need many more like Rand Paul, I really wish Gary Johnson had chosen to run for the Senate from NM. He would have easily won and given us one more true fiscal conservative with a proven record of cutting spending and building a surplus.

I think both Ron and Rand Paul have always known that Ron wouldn’t be the candidate but worked to get their ideas a seat at the table. Ron’s crafty working of the caucus system plus Rand’s Romney endorsement are working well towards that goal.

I, for one, am tired of Republicans who talk the talk about limited government but don’t walk the walk. Even golden child Paul Ryan voted for TARP.

There was a Ron Paul ‘Endorsement of Mittens’ video too,

…until someone waved an electromagnet by the hard drive.

Yeah, the campaign was an effective scam on the donors. Rational thinkers would classify the ‘crafty working’ as gaming the system and thuggery.

Whether you like it or not, 5-7% of Republicans (and likely higher percentage of Democrats and Independents) believe that Ron Paul would make a better President of the United States than either Romney or Obama.

{from another thread} So?

A solid 8% believed that Elvis did not die in the bathroom in the 70′s but lived to a ripe old age in anonymity. The rational 92% don’t give a flying fig what the loons think.
