It's much worse the lost jobs. We betrayed our closet ally. We screwed Canada. Because of this, Canada is forced to reevaluate it's whole economic position so that it is independent of US infrastructure.

It is a loss of honor. It is a loss of face. And it will be a loss in influence and revenue down the line.

Obama is systematically f'ing over our allies by taking them for granted.

He's doing it with the Israelis as well with the same result. They're now being forced to look at alliances and relationships beyond the US because the US has shown itself to be an unreliable ally due to Obama. That mean they're courting the Chinese for example. The Chinese like the Israelis... they respect them.

A huge reason we have such power in the world is because of our network of alliances. We built them up over generations and paid for them in blood. And Obama is treating them like dog crap... rendering them worthless and our allies disgusted.

I suspect Obama doesn't really know what he's doing. He's profoundly clueless. The alternative would have him intentionally destroying the US international status. The fool is barely qualified to be a congressmen and never should have been a senator much less a president.

Yep. I always show Progs this map when they start with the crap about this being a pristine area, blah, blah, blah. The area outlined in black is the Ogallala Aquifer.

There’s not an acre in America that the proggies can’t find a reason to label ‘environmentally sensitive’, ‘delicate’, or ‘pristine’. After what they did to that godforsaken useless frozen swamp called ANWR, anything is possible.

And yet the Ogallala aquifer is pretty damn important... if you like to eat.

There is a legitimate environmental concern (benzene leaching, etc). Of course, as the map notes - there are gas and oil lines already, even over the significant areas of the aquifer (most depth is in Nebraska), and there's little that should stop construction of a modern pipeline with safety and spill precautions taken into effect.

If it were going to run through a particularly sensitive area, it could be rerouted locally, or additional protective measures taken... which apparently were going to be taken with Keystone anyway.

Another moronic thought. It would take 30,000 additional tank cars with shipping and receiving terminals because NO refinery has enough real estate to handle that capacity by rail.

FYI, the largest tank car manufacturing plant has recently doubled its capacity to put out 35 or so new tank cars per day.

Why are you addressing Jazz? Erika wrote this.

Sorry, I should have explained myself.

Jazz lives in Binghampton and generally supports intrusive, expensive dictatorial government. He's the same guy, after all, who thinks it the rightful place of the Feds to outlaw internships, of all idiotic stances to take. He's written twice right here at this site advocating an extension of sales taxes to the internet. He likes all sorts of big government activities, like so many self-destructive residents of the ever-declining towns and counties of his part of the world.

Untold in this post is that the southern tier of New York state has the same oil and gas resources as eastern Ohio and northern Pennsylvania. But Albany has said "no; not allowed" to fracking, a technology making many residents of northern Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio wealthier. The big government Jazz loves so much has decided that, in its infinite wisdom, that the poverty stricken residents of the southern tier can't be allowed by their betters to benefit.

Perhaps this is an issue where Jazz might want to stand with the people, instead of with the corruptocrats of Albany and the idiot enviros living all over Tompkins County. Perhaps Jazz might want to tell "the rest of this story".

So, in answer to your question, I was clumsily egging him on.

2nd the Green River formation is NOT where you can drill and use hydraulic fracturing. It has to be retorted first since kerogen is a POLYMER and after retorting becomes a high naphtha containing SYNTHETIC CRUDE OIL.

But hey go ahead and listen to people who don't know squat about crude oil, logistics and refining if you like.

That's what drives me crazy about Californians, their insanity ruins a place, they are forced depart to other places, and they bring that insanity with them to the new place. It never occurs to them that their ideas are what is ruining all these places.

The political lie in regards to Canadian crude is this. A pipeline is a fixed asset. It will be used and is much cheaper than tankers from the middle east. You can't park a pipeline in a harbor. While crude is a world product transportation is not. If product is cheaper at the end of a pipeline and it will be vs. a tanker the tanker will have to go elsewhere to sell its product or dump the price to compete with Canada.

Canadian tar sands are mined not drilled. Turning off or slowing a pump down on an oil well can't happen with mining. You would have to shut down billions of dollars of investments. Tell that to the share holders.

Less of our money will be used to fund middle east terrorists.

Helping America or Americans would be a new way of thinking for liberal leaders. Lots of rank and file Democrats believe (wrongly) that liberal policies help people. But the leaders know it's all about lining their own pockets.
