White House on disastrous jobs report: Problems in the labor market won’t be solved “overnight,” you know

posted at 4:01 pm on June 1, 2012 by Allahpundit

Anyone want to try defining “overnight” for me, just so that we have a rule of thumb going forward? On Inauguration Day, I would have accepted “2009″ or even “his first two years in office” as plausible answers. Instead, five months out from election day, somehow dawn still has yet to break. His braintrust is now actually on the cusp of arguing, in all seriousness, that it’s unfair to judge him on what’s happened in the jobs market over the course of his entire first term.

What do you do when America’s just taken an economic gut punch, with a vicious European uppercut soon to follow? You hold six fundraisers, naturally:

With Republicans steamrollering ahead with a group of well-fed Super Pacs and an increasingly successful money effort by Mitt Romney, President Obama Friday will attend six fundraisers, a possible sign of budding desperation for a campaign that is lagging far behind its initial fundraising expectations.

Obama will travel to Minneapolis, where he will ensconce himself at the Bachelor Farmer Restaurant for three successive fundraising events. Afterward, he moves on to Chicago for a fundraiser at the Chicago Cultural Center and then two events at what appear to be separate private residences.

Have a look at who’ll be at his Chicago fundraiser. It must be a comfort to him, with so much going wrong, to spend time with old friends.

Incidentally, here’s what today’s atom-bomb jobs report did to his reelection odds on InTrade. A surprisingly small dip, all things considered, but I think they’re in the ballpark of what his actual chances are right now. If next month’s report is a stinker too, though, expect Romney to surge past him and become the new favorite in November:

His new Plan B on the economy? The thingamajig stimulus.

One bright spot in the Obama economy: Excuse production is up more than 2,000%

His braintrust is now actually on the cusp of arguing, in all seriousness, that it’s unfair to judge him on what’s happened in the jobs market over the course of his entire first term.

So in all seriousness(which is a challenge when it comes to this joker), what exactly is his plan in his 2nd term? If he says more stimulus and green energy projects, why would anything turn out differently?

Doughboy on June 1, 2012 at 4:05 PM

Or in three years, apparently.

Dack Thrombosis on June 1, 2012 at 4:05 PM

If you hold the labor force participation rate at the level of January 2009, the current unemployment rate is 10.9% and has remained in a range of 10.7%-11.5% since October 2009. There hasn’t been any sustained improvement.

I’d like to see a spreadsheet or some type of analysis on how many days Obama has ACTUALLY been in the White House vice “campaigning” or out of the office. This guy has not even “acted” as a President during the last 3 1/2 years because we all know he does not know HOW to be a President.

Come on, after 3 1/2 years you cannot come up with a different saying than the first month’s of “We inherited this mess”…what have you done with it since? only made it last longer and worse. Thanks. NEXT!

Didn’t he say something a few years back about “If I don’t have this done in three years, this’ll be a one-term proposition”? I may be paraphrasing.

Sure, recoveries take longer than overnight. But they usually don’t stay flat for two and a half years either.

If it weren’t so painful for our Beloved Country, this would be a bright day because we are one day closer to the end of the long national nightmare that Obama’s “overnight” first term has represented.

Six fundraising stops in Minnesota and around Chicago. Hmmm, wonder what’s between Minnesota and Illinois?

The outlook will be much brighter on Wednesday November 7, 2012 and the actual kick start will begin on January 21, 2013. Personal debt will be lower, business debt will be much lower. Put a competent congress in place to straighten out four years of no budgets and we’re good to go. Just seeing improvement will feed improvement.

There are dog years, human years, and Obama years.

On Obama’s calendar the first three years of his admin is not even overnight. In Obama time his admin spent only a few hours shoving Obamacare down our throats. It only seemed like over a year to us mere mortals. In Obama time Bush was President just yesterday, and that is why he can still be blamed for everything.

JPeterman on June 1, 2012 at 4:16 PM

Bush and Congressional Republicans knew what Fannie and Freddie were doing in forcing mortgage and home equity loans to (minority) borrowers without means.

They were complicit to the extent Bush era cronies enriched themselves by riding on the housing bubble.

They were cowards in refusing to fight against accusations of racism from the likes of racist Maxine Waters and racist James Clyburn.

The Bush presidency failed. The Obama presidency fails. What next? At least the Romney campaign fights and scraps to achieve victory. Hopefully a Romney presidency will do the same. Democrats have been engaged in full-throated political warfare for decades. Meanwhile, establishment Republicans disengaged after and because of Watergate, a demoralizing and disorienting loss.

Political warfare is a beautiful thing when it is engaged for the good of country and not just personal ambition. Romney and the Republicans are showing signs of life in 2012 and have a truthful, country first message. They must fight to get it heard.

Please remind me why it is good to elect a person (Obama) who has NEVER been an executive over anything, never tried to meet a payroll, and most notable accomplishment was to vote “present?” Then, that same person (Obama) nominates a career politician (Biden) to be his VP and again another person who has no executive experience. Then, they fill keep positions in the cabinet and other positions with the lowest percentage of private industry experience. We (America) votes for this person to be President expecting him to be able to get the nations economy moving forward due to what?? Now, we want him for another 4 years to do what differently??

There is a reason almost all the Presidents have come from the Governor’s office. Thankfully, the Republicans have a deep bench for the years ahead.

“There are some folks here who could use $3,000 a year. Let’s get that done right now! If you got $3,000 a year extra…”

Someone with even 1/2 a clue would realize that $3,000 has to come from somewhere, it doesn’t just materialize out of thin air on the ‘credit’ side of the ledger. And guess what Mr. President: the people you’re taking that $3,000 from? … THEY COULD USE IT TOO! TO, LIKE, HIRE PEOPLE AND STUFF!

Here are a couple clues to help Barry remember this word in the future: a “thermostat” is what your people turned up to eighty degrees when you moved in to the White House.

When turned up, a “thermostat” is what increases the “folks’” heating bills, which is especially bad when the “folks” don’t have a job, and energy prices must “necessarily skyrocket”.

When he said “change we can believe in,” he didn’t say change we can believe in “overnight”.

Another OOTW candidate.

Problems in the labor market won’t be solved “overnight,” you know

They won’t get solved on the golf course or Martha’s Vineyard either, you know.

Dr. Bammy’s prescription for the economy: bailout the states.

Moving the goalposts? He’s saying it’s unfair to even keep score!

You should listen. It’s quite, uh, revealing and not too painful.

txhsmom on June 1, 2012 at 4:28 PM

Okay, I took your advice. My original comment stands. I can’t stand to listen to this jugeared jackass. LOL

In all seriousness, what is wrong with the people in this audience laughing at this morong and believing every word he says?? My mind cannot understand the stupidity of people who voted for this assclown.

If he wasn’t such a flaming narcissist, I could almost see him pulling an LBJ around September – for “health” reasons.

Almost.

Pollsters have wondered how Mr. Obama’s decision to embrace same-sex marriage would play with various segments of voters, and in particular with black church-going Christians, who generally tell pollsters they support the president but many of whom are also opposed to gay marriage.

“Some things are bigger than the next election,” the pastors said in their letter.

i wonder with the economy, the coming out of the closet issue above, his dragging of feet on the surge or troops, the delay of months of decisions on the BP Oil spill, Fast and Furious, the “yutes” not as excited to vote for “The One”, etc etc will all play against him this election.

Go Romney!

His braintrust is now actually on the cusp of arguing, in all seriousness, that it’s unfair to judge him on what’s happened in the jobs market over the course of his entire first term.

Hey, teachers are being told not to use red pens to correct errors in students’ homework anymore. We’re in a judgement free world nowadays.
