Good news: Obama alienates Poland by referring to “Polish death camps”

posted at 9:05 pm on May 29, 2012 by Allahpundit

Hey, it’s not like they’re a close ally and a keystone of our eastern European policy. The only person angrier than the Poles tonight, incidentally: Ed Morrissey, who’s being deprived of a golden Obamateurism item for tomorrow morning. Sorry, buddy!

The bad news? This isn’t the only dumb, offensive thing that a prominent Democrat has said about Poland this week. The worse news? When I say he’s alienated Poland, I don’t mean he’s alienated a few bloggers in Warsaw or the editorial page of some partisan newspaper. The outrage goes to the very top:

“The White House will apologize for this outrageous error,” Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski tweeted. Sikorski said that Polish Prime Minister Donald “Tusk will make a statement in the morning. It’s a pity that this important ceremony was upstaged by ignorance and incompetence.”…

“A Polish death camp” — Sikorski also tonight tweeted a link to an Economist story noting that “few things annoy Poles more than being blamed for the crimes committed by the Nazi occupiers of their homeland. For many years, Polish media, diplomats and politicians have tried to persuade outsiders to stop using the phrase ‘Polish death camps’ as a shorthand description of Auschwitz and other exemplars of Nazi brutality and mass murder. Unfortunately this seems to have escaped BaracK Obama’s staff seem not to have noticed this.”…

Alex Storozynski, the President of the Kosciuszko Foundation, lauded the president earlier in the day for recognizing Karski, but now says “Karski would have cringed if he heard this….So far, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, the Associated Press and others have changed their stylebooks to ban the use of this phrase. Now, the Obama White House must do the same. President Obama’s remarks are already being called ‘scandalous’ by media outlets in Poland. Obama was seen reading this phrase off a teleprompter. The President must acknowledge his mistake and apologize for it. He must do it for Karski and the other Poles that risked their lives trying to stop the Holocaust.”

BuzzFeed has a round-up of Polish Twitter reaction, and it ain’t pretty. Here comes White House spokesman Tommy Vietor a-grovelin’:

National Security Council Spokesman Tommy Vietor tells BuzzFeed: “The President was referring to Nazi death camps operated in Poland. The President has demonstrated in word and deed his rock-solid commitment to our close alliance with Poland.”

In a second comment, Vietor said: “The President misspoke – he was referring to Nazi death camps in Poland. We regret this misstatement, which should not detract from the clear intention to honor Mr. Karski and those brave citizens who stood on the side of human dignity in the face of tyranny.”

The fact that Vietor felt obliged to issue a second, more apologetic statement shows you how badly the White House was caught off-guard by the fury of the backlah. I’d bet cash money that both Tusk and Sikorski have personal phone calls from the Unicorn Prince coming in the near future, assuming they haven’t happened already.

In fairness to O, I’m sure he didn’t mean to imply anything about Polish culpability for the Holocaust at a moment when he was honoring a Polish hero for helping to expose the Holocaust. But since that wouldn’t have stopped a collective liberal pants-wetting if Bush had made the same gaffe, we must press boldly on and rub The One’s face in this. Go nuts.

…dumbest President ever…

zoyclem on May 30, 2012 at 7:27 AM

Dachau was a concentration camp, used long before the Holocaust got underway to house Nazi political prisoners of all types. Dedicated extermination camps, of which there were six, were only constructed in Poland.

ChicagoJewishGuy on May 30, 2012 at 3:30 AM

Sachsenhausen had gas chambers and crematoria constructed around 1943 to facilitate larger scale elimination of prisoners, mostly soviet POWs. Nothing compared to the scale of Auschwitz though. It was used as a training center for SS officers who were then sent out to other camps to put into practice what they had learned.

At least we have an inkling into why he thinks Socialism/Fascism/Communism are possible.

He obviously choomed his way through History (US and World), Math, and Economics. He doesn’t know that what he has done has been tried before and failed. And doesn’t have the reasoning skills to appreciate why.

Probably a couple other classes as well. Made him susceptible to frauds like Ayers et al. Cult of Communism.

Ignorance is like that.

I’ve lost count of how many historical “gaffes” Emperor Hussein has made. Indeed, there are so many THEY ARE NOT GAFFES. They expose his IGNORANCE of history, and the ignorance of his staff. I doubt they have a single person there who knows as much about American and Western history as I knew in the 5th grade.

This guy is a LAZY IDIOT. He can’t be BOTHERED to learn anything, can’t be bothered to PREPARE for anything so that he can spare our great nation the embarrassment of being represented by this colossal moron.

Didn’t he bother reading about the Holocaust, if for no other reason than to INSERT HIMSELF into that part of history? Such as, “Auschwitz was an infamous Nazi death camp that was located in Poland. Under President Obama, much more flexible death camps are being set up for the Final Solution for the “conservative problem.”

Considering that obama is a flaming anti-Semite who probably does not believe that the Holocaust actually occurred, it’s really no surprise that he does not have his facts straight, or, does not consider discussion of the Holocaust to be an issue worthy of a accuracy. Oh yeah, AND, he’s a putz.

Ignorance and incompetence are his calling cards, Mr. Sikorsky.

In fairness to O, I’m sure he didn’t mean to imply anything about Polish culpability for the Holocaust at a moment when he was honoring a Polish hero for helping to expose the Holocaust.

The point isn’t what his speechwriters were attempting to bluff their way through, of course. The point is that “the most brilliant President ever” is a nitwit with no sense of his surroundings and little useful education. He is an affirmative action fraud.

stukinIL4now on May 30, 2012 at 8:54 AM

Poland demanded a “strong and clear response” from the U.S. after President Barack Obama’s mention of a “Polish death camp” while honoring a Pole who told the world about the Holocaust.

Must of learned that fact in the Choom bus on the way to skipping history class.

Way to screw up again Mr. “Smartest Man in the White House Ever”.

OT – I grew up in a predominantly Polish neighborhood in Michigan (though not Polish myself) and I heard a lot of people telling “stupid Pollock jokes”. I bet that has now been replaced by “stupid Obama jokes”. The difference between the two types of jokes is that one is not based in fact but prejudice and the other is based on Mr. Obama’s own words.

More DUMB AND OFFENSIVE STUFF FROM LIBERALS:

MSNBC plagiarized YAHOO’S Headline at the top of a Reuters article on Medal of Freedom Winners. The headline reads as follows:

FACTBOX – Presidential Medal of Honor winners
Reuters – 15 hours ago

Here is the first sentence of the article. You can read the list of CIVILIAN Medal of Freedom recipients at the link if you care. The point is, these are NOT MEDAL OF HONOR recipients, as both Yahoo and MSNBC report.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama awarded 13 people – including two who have died – the top U.S. civilian honor on Tuesday. Following are brief descriptions of the Presidential Medal of Freedom winners and their accomplishments.

http://in.news.yahoo.com/factbox-presidential-medal-honor-winners-205858819.html

Does MSNBC even realize the difference between the Medal of Freedom and the Medal of Honor?! The Medal of Honor goes to military, for exemplary valor in war. The Medal of Freedom goes to CIVILIANS–as it clearly points out in the first sentence of this story! Yet MSNBC ran a headline naming these 13 CIVILIANS as recipients of the Medal of Honor. It’s lazy and it’s offensive, and insulting to military Medal of Honor winners, a special class of hero. Thanks for proving that MSNBC is clueless, as is Yahoo, which first ran this incredibly stupid headline on the Reuters story in the first place. MSNBC is in a class all its own for stupidity and cluelessness.

The Medal of Honor

Ineteresting turn of phrase but nonsensical. Unless of course by being “intellectually honest” you admit your stupidity.

Buckeye Sam calling a President excrement just shows your hatred for America …

Not at all. But you know that…hopefully because you are “intellectually honest”(whatever that is supposed to mean.

Of course the reason that they put the camps in Poland was that they knew that the Poles would not object. The Poles actually continued the pogroms after World War II.

Anti-Jewish Violence In Poland, 1944–1946 refers to a series of violent incidents that immediately followed the end of the Second World War in Poland and influenced postwar history of Jews as well as Polish Jewish relations. The exact number of Jewish victims is a subject of debate, but the range is estimated as 1,000[1] to 2,000[2] (with 327 documented cases).[3] Jews constituted between 2% and 3% of the total number of victims of postwar violence in the country,[2][4] including the Polish Jews who survived the Holocaust on territories of Poland annexed by the Soviet Union.[5] The incidents ranged from individual attacks to pogroms. Partly as a result of this violence, but also because Poland was the only Eastern Bloc country to allow free Jewish aliyah to Israel,[6] the number of Jews in the country changed dramatically. Uninterrupted traffic across the Polish borders intensified with many Jews passing through on their way to the West. In January 1946, there were 86,000 survivors registered at CKŻP. By the end of summer, the number had risen to about 205,000–210,000 (with 240,000 registrations and over 30,000 duplicates).[7] About 180,000 refugees came from the Soviet Union due to the repatriation agreement.[7] Most left without visas or exit permits thanks to a decree of Gen. Spychalski.[6][8] By the spring of 1947 only 90,000 Jews remained in Poland.[9][10][11][12]

Yes.

Obama is a prime example of what happens when a self-centered spoiled brat child is allowed to mature to physical adulthood without ever having been disciplined.

He’s a 50 year old 5 year old.

Don’t be silly, as long as you obey the rules you will not be asked to leave. This is a lean right site and we have hosts who determine the tenor of the events and articles, we don’t need a hall monitor. We are not interested in keeping our views in “political check” but to express them. Have you said “fair” yet, the current word of choice by Obama? No matter how fair the opportunities, there will never the same outcome and it isn’t what we should be striving toward.

You’re not the first troll to show up here, and unfortunately you won’t be the last. But, one thing you will not notice. Most of the trolls who came before you are no longer here, because sooner or later, like all liberals, they enter into a discussion with their intellectual betters and find themselves quickly painted into a corner. It is then that they do what liberals do; they lash out. They end up saying something banworthy, and Ed or AP bring the hammer down. It happens to ALL OF THEM. You will be no different. It’s only a matter of time.

I wish I knew what twisted need in you is met by coming here. You know none of us will ever agree with you. You know you will never convince any of us, and it’s clear from your methods that’s not your intention. So what need is met by coming where you are unwelcome just to make yourself even more unwelcome? Is it the same sick liberal trait of being totally incapable of leaving anyone alone? Are you like this on the playground?

CurtZHP on May 30, 2012 at 10:37 AM

It is a much bigger story that Romney misspelled America in his new IPad App. I am sure Romney programmed the APP himself and proofread every word on it. Obama is too smart to make a mistake like this, it was the speechwriter and teleprompter’s fault. Romney on the other hand shows he is just as dumb as Bush. \sarc

weaselyone on May 30, 2012 at 10:38 AM

Of course the reason that they put the camps in Poland was that they knew that the Poles would not object.

Wrong. The reason they put the camps in Poland is that most of the Jews were in Poland and in nearby areas, relatively speaking, easily accessible by railroads originating in Poland. Before WW I Poland was part of the Russian Empire. About 80% of the Jews murdered by the Nazis lived in areas that were part of the former Russian Empire.

Also, relatively speaking the Polish were no more anti-semitic than Europe in general, and they were not as bad as the Russians, Latvians, Lithuanians, and Ukrainians who volunteered to help the Nazis with their mass murders.

Lastly, the notion the Nazis cared about any “objections” that might come from the native populations about anything they did is laughable.
