Videos: Which campaign is looking “Forward,” anyway?

posted at 11:21 am on May 24, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

One presidential campaign uses the slogan “Forward.” It’s even in their campaign ads, which is a good thing, because otherwise one might be confused about which campaign looks forward at all.  Via Guy Benson, the Obama “Forward” campaign’s new ad continues the ball-spiking over last year’s Osama bin Laden raid:

Like Guy, I have no problem with Obama claiming credit for the OBL raid, and at least they’ve dropped the offensive argument that Romney wouldn’t have made the same call, or they have for now, anyway.  Presidents get to claim credit for military operations that happen under their command, just as they have to take the blame for those that don’t turn out well.  The problem here is that, after flopping on their attacks on Bain Capital, it’s clear that the Obama campaign really doesn’t want to talk about their goals for a second term in office, but instead want to look, er, backward to the few accomplishments they can claim.

Team Romney, on the other hand, is all about looking “forward.”  In their latest ad, they give an even closer look at Day One of a Mitt Romney presidency in January:

“That’s what a Romney presidency will be like,” the ad concludes.  At least Romney’s talking about the next term.  The “Forward” campaign seems stuck vacillating between May 2011 and 2002.

After three plus years of Obama’s disastrous policies and management, it would be completely appropriate for one of the Romney supporting Super PAC’s to run an ad showing a dog chasing its tail, while a list of Obama’s failures scrolls up the screen and then FORWARD? changes from a watermark to the only thing left on the screen.

That’s not something that can or should be pinned entirely on Obama. We’re talking about unfunded mandates that were put in place long before he became President. Ironically THIS is the kind of deficit he can accurately claim to have inherited(albeit not from Bush). What is Obama’s fault though is his unwillingness to do anything about it.

The Romney people need to do an ad informing people how much their home utility bills are going to go up in the next few years, thanks to Obama’s war on coal. Obama is keeping his promise to “make electricity costs skyrocket.” A few conservative sites had the story yesterday about how much more eastern electric companies are having to pay for future capacity, thanks to all the new EPA regs. It’s jaw-dropping, and all those costs are going to be passed on to consumers, in their monthly electric bills.

The history of the use of the word “forward” by communists and socialists going back to the 19th Century was covered by an article in Wikipedia. After the article was referenced by someone on the Republican side, the article magically disappeared.

But what I’d like to know about Romney and the Repubs is why they aren’t trying harder to turn the blue states, like Maryland. Seriously. Two days ago there was an article on Gateway Pundit’s site where it states that the new buy for kilowatt hour electricity in the Mid-Atlantic states and Eastern Ohio will increase from $18 to $167! That isn’t a 15% increase. That’s pretty much the end of civilization in these states as we know it.

Why isn’t this being covered in the blogospher? Why hasn’t someone who understands these things put it in simple terms like “if your average bill was $200 a month, it will now be $2000 a month”….It’s like the taxageddon argument. Someone needs to point out that everyone will be hit when the Bush tax rates expire—particularly those who earn under $50,000. Vague headlines of pending increases always apply to someone else to most people. They don’t make the connection until you say, “Hey, Dude! That’s gonna COST YOU $3000″.

The red and white stripe variation in the flag is boring and since there are already white stars, there isn’t enough red. The country needs a new flag that reflects the multicultural diversity of the Progressive States and the forward-looking guidance of our Dear Leader. Forward to Inclusion!

Proposed redesign: A rainbow of red, black, white, green, lavender, and orange stripes across the banner; a large, single red star with white and black outline superimposed in the center. In the middle of the star, a gold profile of the Dear Leader with chin upraised, boldly gazing to the left and surrounded by a wheat garland. On diplomatic occasions a Qur’an may be substituted.

I didn’t read all posts before I commented. Obviously, we’re both concerned. Me particularly. I live in the Mid-Atlantic.

Even the libs in Montgomery County, Maryland who are getting hit with new state income taxes and much higher property taxes would cringe at a $4000 a month electric bill. This needs to be boiled down into what the skyrocketing cost would be for the average family (or even the unaverage family).

Can you imagine the death and destruction that will follow with no electricity whatsoever? $18 to $167 will be dumping the frog into a full roiling boil.

Hubby, former Navy “corpsman” feels the same. It was nauseating to see his anti military mug at the Air Force Academy…blech

Getting ready to contact my U.S. Senators. Just emailed our County Republican Party Chair marked urgent. The following is from the article:

The Senate will have a critical opportunity to do just that when it votes on stopping Obama’s most expensive anti-coal regulation sometime in the next couple of weeks. The vote is on the Inhofe Resolution, S.J. Res 37, to overturn the so-called Utility MACT rule, which the EPA itself acknowledges is its most expensive rule ever.

This vote is protected from filibuster, and it will take just 51 votes to send a clear message to Obama that his War on Coal must end.

I hope we can get this info out and the votes to stop this. Haven’t read the Imhofe Resolution yet.

As an AFA grad, I couldn’t stand to watch the grad ceremony this year because of him being there. Glad I was there during the Reagan era – although we had Barry Goldwater for mine.

Prezzy Vacillating, which has been taken to new heights by the occupier, is still blaming Bush for our ‘mess’. He spews out more disinformation with every word.
