Video: S.E. Cupp and “The View” slam “Hustler”

Via Greg Hengler, a cleansing bit of feelgood bipartisan solidarity after yesterday’s sleaze. Has anyone on the left actually defended the “Hustler” stunt, incidentally? Hasselbeck says here that she can’t get NOW to pick up the phone (yet), but the only liberal willing to go to bat for Flynt that I’ve seen is this miserable has-been. Did I miss any others?
Yesterday’s deep thought from the man responsible was that the photoshop of Cupp is “satire,” even though it’s unclear to everyone what’s being “satirized.” Here’s today’s deep thought, which is a lot closer to satire than yesterday’s was:
In an interview with Reihan Salam for Vice magazine, pornographer Larry Flynt reveals that he’s now a hardcore supporter of President Obama’s just two years after calling Obama an “ineffectual wimp” for giving in too much to Republicans.
“I think President Obama has overperformed,” Flynt says. “He got handed on his platter when he became president more than any president in history ever had to deal with…. I think he’s done a marvelous job.”
Two clips for you, the first from “The View” and the second, via Mediaite, of the “Red Eye” crew wondering whether she can sue. The moment when Cupp talks about feeling ashamed despite having done nothing at all will break your heart. If it’s any comfort to her, and I’m guessing it’s not, there’s nothing personal in what “Hustler” did. If they hadn’t used her image, they would have used Michelle’s or Ann Coulter’s or Ann Romney’s or some other conservative woman’s. It was an attack on all; she just happened to be the one who took the hit. There’s a funny bit of truth too in the other clip when Gutfeld describes freaking out years ago after he found out his sister’s boyfriend bought “Hustler” instead of “Playboy.” The striking thing about the photoshop is that, even in the context of a porn mag, there’s no pretense made that it’s supposed to be titillating. It’s pure degradation, explicitly designed as punishment for her politics. That’s the same vibe that made Greg shudder, even as a kid.

As the Great One said tonight a Third Party hasn’t had a serious shot at winning an election since before the Civil War.
Look I”m just as p!ssed at the GOPe as you but the answer is to take over the GOP with conservatives. Honestly I don’t think we’ve really been focused on that until the last 5 years or so. After Bush left office we really looked at how bad the GOPe/ compassionate conservativism really was.
We’ve made some good strides with Cruz, Fisher, Lee, Walker, Ron Johnson, Rand Paul…etc.

So… the ‘answer’ then is for the GOP to become the moderate version of the Democratic party. I don’t think so.
If we wish to look at what a nation governed by the equivalent of progressives and ‘moderates’ would look like, we need look no further Great Britain. Their political class has come together to compromise… and have subsequently compromised their nation. The NHS, the immigration mess, a stagnate economy, shackled to the EU to the point that they can’t deport criminals, but are, instead, forced to house and support them…savings and pensions essentially yielding nothing due to massive ‘quantative easing’ and deflation of the pound. A nation crowded to the point of losing their green areas due to unchecked and rampant immigration, legal and illegal, and a ‘green energy’ program that has strangled energy production, shutting down coal fired plants with no alternatives in place, virtually insuring a dearth of energy, high prices and buying at almost any price from foreign interests.
Now that I think of it… seems like we’re already there. Rather than two parties with two starkly different platforms and ideologies, we are governed by one political class, all to eager to work together for their own career advancement. “I’ll scratch your back and vote for your bill, if you’ll scratch mine and vote for mine. We’ll talk the talk and make it appear that each one of us has a ‘victory’ to show our base. It’s a win win! IF they get wise, we’ll say we ‘evolved’ on the issue! ”
Perhaps conservatives are merely reacting to the failings of our political class.

The problems cut across all levels of the GOP, from precinct committeemen to presidential candidates, all the way up to the paid consultants and unelected party leaders. Meh. I have given up. I’m ready to move on. Bush’s presidency underscores how neither party is serious about cutting spending or the size of the government.
Bush used 9/11 to grow government and cut our freedoms while leaving our borders wide open so American citizens could get their lawns mowed for $20 but have to get groped to board planes. Disgusting.
Meanwhile, the progressives have undermined every institution in America. The Republicans think we are still playing a proper gentlemen’s game of politics. The whole country is going to hell (much like during the civil war only strike it, reverse it. The people appear to be begging to get put on the governments plantation.) Interesting times call for interesting ideas and I am more than willing to look into a new party. It just needs a good name.

Lived on the Left until 9/11, when I began to become a self-educated conservative. Happily voted Bush in 2004, voted McCain with disdain, voted Mittens with huge reservations and am now done with the GOP.
They are the Whigs.
I don’t trust them and don’t have any idea what they stand for – except a fundraising entity – and I will not give dime one to the GOP again.

The logic doesn’t follow, Kathleen. The RINO cannot existentially deal with the dominant threat to our society — the Left. To do so, to even try to do so, would cause internal turmoil beyond his capacities to function. Essentially, to do so he’d have to concede that conservatives were right and that he was after all a conservative. This prospect is more appalling to him than any concession to the Left. The RINO is a untenable political creature, a kind of visually appealing bird totally unequipped for flight or even survival: a candidate for extinction.
