Video: S.E. Cupp and “The View” slam “Hustler”

posted at 4:01 pm on May 24, 2012 by Allahpundit

Via Greg Hengler, a cleansing bit of feelgood bipartisan solidarity after yesterday’s sleaze. Has anyone on the left actually defended the “Hustler” stunt, incidentally? Hasselbeck says here that she can’t get NOW to pick up the phone (yet), but the only liberal willing to go to bat for Flynt that I’ve seen is this miserable has-been. Did I miss any others?

Yesterday’s deep thought from the man responsible was that the photoshop of Cupp is “satire,” even though it’s unclear to everyone what’s being “satirized.” Here’s today’s deep thought, which is a lot closer to satire than yesterday’s was:

In an interview with Reihan Salam for Vice magazine, pornographer Larry Flynt reveals that he’s now a hardcore supporter of President Obama’s just two years after calling Obama an “ineffectual wimp” for giving in too much to Republicans.

“I think President Obama has overperformed,” Flynt says. “He got handed on his platter when he became president more than any president in history ever had to deal with…. I think he’s done a marvelous job.”

Two clips for you, the first from “The View” and the second, via Mediaite, of the “Red Eye” crew wondering whether she can sue. The moment when Cupp talks about feeling ashamed despite having done nothing at all will break your heart. If it’s any comfort to her, and I’m guessing it’s not, there’s nothing personal in what “Hustler” did. If they hadn’t used her image, they would have used Michelle’s or Ann Coulter’s or Ann Romney’s or some other conservative woman’s. It was an attack on all; she just happened to be the one who took the hit. There’s a funny bit of truth too in the other clip when Gutfeld describes freaking out years ago after he found out his sister’s boyfriend bought “Hustler” instead of “Playboy.” The striking thing about the photoshop is that, even in the context of a porn mag, there’s no pretense made that it’s supposed to be titillating. It’s pure degradation, explicitly designed as punishment for her politics. That’s the same vibe that made Greg shudder, even as a kid.

The hottest conservative commentator ever. SE Cupp is just mindbendingly hot.

You know, considering the campaigns of Barrett, the White House and this Hustler thing, you’d almost wonder if they hired their campaign managers from Boehner/Cantor’s crowd.

S.E. Cupp went on The View?

NotCoach on May 24, 2012 at 4:08 PM

It’s pure degradation, explicitly designed as punishment for her politics.

That’s how the so-called “progressive” left operates. We’ve seen it before with the Palin porn parodies. We’ll see it again with some other conservative woman, or gay, or black conservative. Liberals are the least tolerant people I know.

I’m sorry, that View clip does not impress me. I am rather disappointed quite frankly. Yes, Hustler is vile and will always be vile, but there seems to be an embracing of identity politics going on here. Forget that nonsense and the, “I think my feelings are hurt (pouty lip)” nonsense as well. Attack the editors of Hustler for the vile scum they are and bury them by exposing them. The View hugfest though is obnoxious in my view. Just my 2 cents.

I’d rather see S.E. Cupp give a rhetorical slap down to that shrill yenta Behar and Caryn Johnson (a.k.a. Whoopie Rape-Rape).

I think they know she’d clean their clocks, so hence the justified gang-up on Flynt. Still…

Rixon on May 24, 2012 at 4:17 PM

An appearance on The View seems like it’s oligatory after this sort of thing.

Has S. E. Cupp ever criticized Bill Maher? I saw she does his show a lot.

Dr. Tesla on May 24, 2012 at 4:17 PM

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting S.E. a few months ago at an event supporting our military. A Delightful young lady, very kind and respectful of all that she was around and worked with that day. For someone like her to be subjected to this kind of crap is a travesty.
Flynt is truly a dirtbag.

JusDreamin on May 24, 2012 at 4:18 PM

I can understand now why S.E. is an atheist. Hard to believe there’s a God would ever put a man like Larry Flynt on this planet.

Doughboy on May 24, 2012 at 4:20 PM

[Obama] got handed on his platter when he became president more than any president in history ever had to deal with

I like how Washington had to shepherd an infant nation into the world, Lincoln fought a divided nation over slavery (and the rise of vampires) and kickstarted a national railway program, and FDR (ostensibly) guided a nation through a bitter depression and then beat the Nazis AND the Japs, but Obama had more on his “platter” than anyone in history to deal with, which is to say: a recession and a couple wars reduced to nation-building-slash-peacekeeping.

It’s like there’s some kind of contest to see who can most outrageously paint a deck stacked against Obama in order to whitewash his ineffective execution of the office.

The Schaef on May 24, 2012 at 4:22 PM

Doughboy,

There are probably more Larry Flynts on this planet than not. Is this too cynical, let me know. :)

Dr. Tesla on May 24, 2012 at 4:22 PM

The View often times reminds me of Maher’s “Real Time”. On the rare occasion when the host seems to indicate a time for applause for someone representing conservatism, there’s always this audible hesitation on the part of the audience. They’re such programmed sheep that either they are afraid to clap, or they’re so bitter against opposing views that they don’t want to clap.

MadisonConservative on May 24, 2012 at 4:22 PM

Why is she sitting in the audience?

I didn’t understand that either?

MechanicalBill on May 24, 2012 at 4:22 PM

A more accurate bit of “satire” would be a photo of Flynt’s limp penis in obama’s mouth (or vice-versa).

Pork-Chop on May 24, 2012 at 4:23 PM

As Rush was saying a few days ago, sometimes you have to measure your success in terms of the attacks you stir from your adversaries.

S.E. has been blossoming since she joined with Beck. She has a sharp mind, and lots of spine.

Full speed ahead, S.E.!

To their credit (I don’t agree with their politics), Planned Parenthood and Sandra Fluke roundly denounced this on Twitter yesterday.

TeresainFortWorth on May 24, 2012 at 4:27 PM

What choice do they have?

As much as they’d like to support the sexist sliming of another “non woman” conservative woman, the denizens of the left-media hive realize that their credibility on these issues would drop from it’s current infinitesimal to below zero.

Dr. Carlo Lombardi on May 24, 2012 at 4:29 PM

How does S.E. Cupp go on Bill Maher’s show knowing he called Palin a c?. To me, that is pretty close to what Hustler was doing with the “photo”. I don’t buy she didn’t know about that. It kind of seems like she’ll overlook some stuff if you invite her on your show.

Dr. Tesla on May 24, 2012 at 4:29 PM

Who cares what Hustler did. It’s a really nasty ‘cartoon’ which is in total keeping with what Hustler does every month. Cupp doesn’t need the cows from The View or anyone else to defend her… she is articulate and thoughtful which is why Hustler have to resort to silly degradation to attack her in distorted images rather than address any of her points or ideas with their own.

This is just another of numerous posts we have seen at HotAir about this non-story.

If you want me to talk to you, you’ll have to learn how to talk like an adult. I don’t understand why you want to snipe at me all the time. I get you want my attention, but you can just talk to me. Disagree with me all you want, but try to have a conversation.

Dr. Tesla on May 24, 2012 at 4:47 PM

This really does anger me. On the one hand, you consider the source. On the other hand, she has a point that this will be out there forever, just the image. Any time you google Sarah Palin’s name, strewn throughout the real images of Sarah, (of which there are almost no bad ones) there are those stupid photoshops of her face on various other women’s bodies in explicit clothing. It will never go away, and all of this was intentional dehumanizing based on politics.

S.E. Cupp is a strikingly beautiful girl, truly. Why can’t it be said, as a real sincere complement, without being a slimy pig about it? To further compliment Ms. Cupp, she does not ruin her outward beauty by speaking. There are many pretty girls who suddenly aren’t so pretty when they start talking. She isn’t one of those, not by a long shot.

chriskl99 on May 24, 2012 at 4:54 PM

Larry Flint used the same tactics that NYT/WaPo employs to attack conservatives every day. The only difference is that the latter does so under the auspices of journalism while the other does it with gratuitous smut which is impossible to intellectually defend. They both made their money in the print media heyday, and now they’re fighting to stay relevant by making the occasional splash by smearing their political opponents.

We’re supposed to believe that Romney is an anti-gay bully because as a 15 year old, he forcibly cut the hair of some kid presumed to be gay in 2012. We’re to also believe that John McCain is an adulterer because anonymous sources heard unconfirmed rumors that he was. We’re supposed to condemn Flynt while we allow this to pass as journalism.

The selection of SE Cupp was strategic not random. They really couldn’t have used Palin or Ann Romney. Honestly, the reaction would have been volcanic, and to that extent it’s a recognition from the Left that the cultural boundaries are being redrawn by the Conservative Media.

Why SE Cupp? She’s prominent, Conservative, pretty, the occasional guest on Bill Maher and young. I think that they thought they could skate by. But once again the cultural boundaries are being redrawn and Hustler may find it’s walking on thin ice. Do you think they expected this much Left wing outrage?

How would you like to go back in time and offer free marksmanship lessons to the guy who botched Flynt shooting? C’mon, the guy is on death row anyway (for another murder).

How could the world be worse off?

I can only hope that the freebie on the internet usurps his magazine profit

Hustler wants shows like The View attacking them. That’s not the demographic they are after. :)

Look, everybody asserts S. E. Cupp is super hot but may I be the one guy on here that suggests that she’s not THAT good looking. She’s ok, but she’s no super model, and those glasses need to go. She looks like she’s going for some kind of bad school girl kind of look. Could be wrong it happens a lot.

This is not “satire,” it’s exploitation of her personal image without authorization. Sueable by MILLIONS of dollars. She is a private citizen.

I hope she destroys him.
