NC student on pro-Obama teacher who berated him: “She doesn’t want to hear anything but what she believes in”

posted at 4:01 pm on May 22, 2012 by Allahpundit

The follow-up to yesterday’s viral vid du jour. It’s nice that this kid is getting some TV time for exposing his teacher but the Fox News interview doesn’t do justice to how savvy he is. For that, read the Salisbury Post:

“I didn’t think that it was going to be like this, but honestly I’m excited,” he said. “I want people to see this, let this be an example.”…

“I videoed this because there are millions of kids going home every day telling their parents there is a teacher doing this, and a lot of parents think because teachers are role models they can’t be doing anything that bad,” Rogers said…

Hunter Rogers said he felt like Dixon-Neely was “lying to my face” when she said that people have been arrested for speaking ill of the president.

“Either she was lying to me or she didn’t know any better,” he said. “But I know way better, I know that nobody can take away your freedom of speech unless you threaten the president.”

His parents have pulled him out of the school because of all the attention the incident’s gotten. I was thinking while I watched the clip that there’s bound to be lots, lots more of this sort of thing bubbling up online now that smart phones are ubiquitous even among young teenagers, but Ace is already one step ahead:

Oh, by the way: Know that the next step, coming to your school, is a ban on recording devices or cell phones with a recording feature.

They don’t want people to know how awful and incompetent many of them are, and they’ll make up any pretext for keeping this a secret.

So expect your local schools to begin banning recording devices, arguing it’s “disruptive” to orderliness and “promotes a climate of suspicion and guardedness rather than openness and honesty.”

Meaning: The Teachers Union teachers could not keep their jobs if the public got a look inside the classroom.

Fight this when it comes to your town– because it is coming.

Exactly. It’s not just the attempt at indoctrination that made this a hit online; Rogers didn’t end up being indoctrinated, after all. It’s the fact that his teacher really might not have known that you can’t be arrested for criticizing the president. (Per the blockquote, note that even Rogers isn’t sure whether she’s lying or just tremendously ignorant.) That’s what the unions will worry about — not that indoctrination will be exposed, since that can hypothetically be cured with a reprimand and a blanket “no politics in the classroom” rule, but the fact that some of them simply don’t know what they’re talking about when they’re at the blackboard. If YouTube clips start revealing incompetence, that’s a much bigger threat to their institutional prerogatives. The obvious solution: A ban on student cell phones. As Ace says, it’s coming.

Your homework assignment this afternoon is to read Troy Senik’s tribute to the worst union in America.

Meanwhile, I was at Notre Dame over the weekend and watched them award Valedictorian status to a clownish liberal poli-sci major who summer interned for Dick the Weenie Durbin, while coasting through school with the easiest 4.0 outside of the race-victim-studies department.

Never mind the Pre-Med, Bio-Chem, and Chemical Engineering majors there with 4.0 GPAs … the head of the Notre Dame Democrats must surely be the best student in the school.

BTW, there is no “Teachers Union” collective bargaining contract in NC. Every teacher signs an individual contract. Membership in the NEA or the NCEA is “voluntary” and dues are not automatically deducted from the teacher’s paycheck.

The sad, and more likely truth to the matter is that the teacher is a product of blind indoctrination (re our public and higher learning education systems) and we can rest assure knowing she is not aware of her own ignorance or indoctrinated teachings.

Our class valedictorian, a physics major, last showed up at a reunion as a “musician” with his significant other who described herself as his live-in-ho.

Seriously, I understand the joke you were making but how many of us really know who we want to be when we graduate? I spent 24 years on active duty in the Navy and then had the opportunity to “reimagine” what I wanted to do for a living. I honestly did not realize what a challenge that exercise would be. The burn out rate for teachers is huge with many leaving what they thought would be their career within a few years.

We need to figure out why only idiots stay in education. Keep in mind the topic of discussion that was written on the white board was Mitt Romney is a bully. Nevermind the event occurred in 1965 this “teacher” thought this was an appropriate discussion point. And when challenged by a student smarter than her she went ballistic. Why do school systems keep these unemployable idiots with a teaching certification and not real teachers?

Happy Nomad on May 22, 2012 at 10:09 PM

Some states have laws against recording a conversation without the knowledge of all participants.
In those states, the teachers WILL go after students who record, and expose, them. And the teachers will be on solid legal ground.
Before anyone encourages kids to do more of this, check the laws of the state.
iurockhead on May 22, 2012 at 4:50 PM

Not sure if it applies to the classroom, but some might find this handy: James O’Keefe offers a good breakdown on what the recorded conversation consent laws are by state:

No sweat – just give the kids digital audio recorders sans camera, text, email and cell. I use one all the time when conducting legal arbitrations, for the same reason – to keep the parties honest and to have an accurate recording of what was said. Solves that problem.

Seriously, the reason this teacher’s head is so full of false information is easy to understand.

Just listen to something called “the Tom Joyner Show” for 5 minutes and you’ll know where all this came from.

He has lots of fans and they all talk like this teacher.

Seriously.

Pythagoras on May 22, 2012 at 11:51 PM

Although no one would want to be recorded all the time at their job, my school has been looking at relaxing our ban against cell phones being used in class because the teachers are just so dang tired of fighting a useless fight–the kids want to text and it’s ridiculous to be reduced to a cell phone spotter when there’s no need.

As for why teachers burn out, part of it is that some administrators or other teachers are little better than bullies and take it out on teachers they don’t like, or lie to teachers for sake of convenience. Part of it is that parents automatically assume the teacher is the reason their little angel isn’t succeeding, and not that their angel isn’t on drugs, sleeping around or just in general no longer caring about school for whatever reason. And part of it is the avalanche of paperwork and regulations and requirements, so much so that it feels like you need a secretary if you want to actually get to teaching.

It’s easier to be a crappy teacher than it is to be a good one, because if you just pass the kids along, no one complains. Try to hold them to some standard, and you’re evil or incompetent. It’s to the point where I much prefer being in a room of smart aleck teenagers who hate school than being around adults. The kids, at least, are usually upfront and honest with their feelings.

DethMetalCookieMonst on May 23, 2012 at 9:50 AM

Nope. SCOTUS ruled years ago that students don’t have the same rights as adults. That’s the only way they could justify mass locker raids on school grounds. Look it up.

nukemhill on May 22, 2012 at 4:34 PM

———————–
That applies to the locker, not the person, nor does it give the state (school system) the authority to seize (with the intent of converting) property.

“You’ll get this back at the end of the day” still applies as long the thing is in plain view, but “take everything out of your pockets and I’ll decide what you can keep” does not. In addition, these policies have to be documented and in place prior to the search/seizure.

BobMbx on May 22, 2012 at 4:47 PM

Another student wanted to get our son in trouble. So they lied to the administration saying that our son had a knife in his backpack. They immediately took him out of class, searched and emptied his locker, had him go to the principals office (locked the doors, with someone guarding the door) with his backpack to empty the contents, and had him empty his pockets. No phone call to me about this. Of course, they didn’t find anything. But they have done these searches a few times — just by an “assumption/lie” from another student who holds a grudge against our son.

I’m amazed that a few decided to be all offended by the kids hair.. rather than the fact his teacher was an ignorant O-bot tool… attempting to bully and brow beat her students into good little leftists. That the kid was well informed speaks well of him and his parents..

and before I enlisted in 1980… I had shoulder length hair.. most young men did then. I’ve kept it short since leaving the Air Force by choice.. but come on.. there are some seriously anal people here when the kids appearance is their biggest complaint.

Is this Obama’s fault?.. not directly.. but his cult of personality among liberals and especially black Americans is frightening in it’s intensity. I listen to Hannity most days on the radio.. and he gets a lot of black callers.. virtually all speak like she did.. and virtually all start out.. “YOU ARE A RACIST… because you don’t like Obama”…

This teachers had zero control of her class.. a bad teacher all around especially since she was a screamer and not at all professional.

Her attempted indoctrination isn’t a surprise to many of us parents.. my teachers in the 60′s and 70′s didn’t touch politics at all. When I asked why the answer was generally.. we are here to help people learn to be good citizens and functioning adults.. not to turn us against each other.. that and Vietnam was still a raw subject with so many kids having had family over there..

The teacher might have protested the war.. and a kid might have had a brother or father wounded or killed there.. not a very good mix if you want to discuss the war.. there would be no objectivity to ease the conversation.

now…

Teachers openly slander and smear republicans in class and praise Obama as a demigod who walks on water. The change for me was jarring when I put my kids in school. I defend against it as best I can.. and my two seem well on their way to being good conservatives… but having to undo what the school system trys to indoctrinate is tiring.. most days I’m in pain so having one more headache isn’t on my to do list.

Why can’t they just teach and leave politics to the parents.. basic civics would be nice.. history and geography.. but they barely touch these things.. I had to memorize the preamble.. most kids now.. don’t even know that word.
