Oh yes: “Anchorman 2″ trailer debuts

posted at 6:41 pm on May 21, 2012 by Allahpundit

The first one was my favorite comedy of the past 10 years so I’m thinking this can’t possibly miss. But it can. Badly. If you doubt me, pick up this stinkeroo in the bargain bin at your local electronics outlet. My theory about it is that they went ahead and assembled an entire separate film out of the least funny ad-libbed outtakes from the first movie. The good news in that? They had the comic sense to know which bits were funny and which weren’t. The bad news? They may have decided that there’s enough of a cultural appetite for this particular shtick that they can get away with shoveling any old crapola into the audience’s maw. See, e.g., “The Hangover 2.” Or, actually, “The Hangover.”

The trailer did make me chuckle, though. High hopes.

this is kind of a big deal……..

Can’t think of a single thing Will Ferrell ever did that I liked.

Paul-Cincy on May 21, 2012 at 6:46 PM

Christina Applegate?

Philly on May 21, 2012 at 6:47 PM

I really don’t see why people thought the first one was funny at all.

The only good scene is the fight with other news casters and the public access guy yells something funny. I don’t even remember what it was, though.

lorien1973 on May 21, 2012 at 6:47 PM

it can only get better from here, because that clipped suuuucked.

I liked Anchorman, I’ll admit…my favorite part was with Baxter!

ellifint on May 21, 2012 at 6:49 PM

You want funny? Here’s funny. “Breitbart is Here” leads the Occupy Chicago NATO protests and they are too stupid to realize it. http://themorningspew.com/2012/05/21/breitbart-is-here-infiltrates-the-occupy-chicago-nato-protests/

Paul-Cincy on May 21, 2012 at 6:46 PM

I enjoyed Taladega Nights, and I liked Stranger Than Fiction, which is not really a comedy.

aunursa on May 21, 2012 at 6:49 PM

I can’t how fast it escalated.

Oil Can on May 21, 2012 at 6:52 PM

It wasn’t even the movie that was so funny- it was Will Ferrell doing what he does best- acting like an idiot! Although I do have concerns for A2….He was decidedly not funny when he hosted Saturday Night Live recently. Phoned it in, big time.

BettyRuth on May 21, 2012 at 6:53 PM

WTF is T!ts McGee!!

Apologetic California on May 21, 2012 at 6:54 PM

Given Ferrell’s recent inability to keep his comedy and politics separate, if the bad guy in this movie doesn’t turn out to be a Rupert Murdoch-like owner of some big cable news outlet I’ll be shocked.

jon1979 on May 21, 2012 at 6:55 PM

Is it a guy thing to like Will Farrell? He plays the same idiot in everything he does. I just can’t stand him.

Fallon on May 21, 2012 at 6:56 PM

Paul-Cincy on May 21, 2012 at 6:46 PM

I agree . I think he is like Michael Richards as he is a better fit for supporting roles but not leads.

CW on May 21, 2012 at 6:58 PM

Stranger Than Fiction, which is not really a comedy.

aunursa on May 21, 2012 at 6:49 PM

Not at all and painful to boot. Ouch.

CW on May 21, 2012 at 6:59 PM

Agree..funniest movie in the last decade.

Best scene.

Blasphemy! How about the vomit scene from Blades Of Glory?

“Let it rain down on me”.

Maxpower on May 21, 2012 at 7:00 PM

Damn, I thought that was hilarious! You might be tired of Will Farrell’s schtick, but Steve Carell is still funny…

Evrviglnt on May 21, 2012 at 7:01 PM

Wow! Them there people in Hollyweed sure are a creative bunch! Never know (what sequel) they’ll come in with next.

Hey! How about “Rocky XXXVILM!” A feature about an 97 year old former prize fighter in a nursing home, duking it out over who gets this months pain pill?

GarandFan on May 21, 2012 at 7:02 PM

Perhaps Will Ferrel and Adam Sandler can be typecast in the same movie. With their combined talents, the movie would average out to a D- .

..low expectations, AP. You need to get out more.

The War Planner on May 21, 2012 at 7:11 PM

Farrell is at his best in Anchorman. And his side kicks are great.

That Multi-channel street brawl is the funniest damned thing I’ve seen in years.

portlandon on May 21, 2012 at 7:12 PM

Allah, sorry, but Ferrell is just useless as an actor. Last good thing he did was leave SNL.

john1schn on May 21, 2012 at 7:13 PM

Ohhhhh…..You all can just go to your homes on whore island!

I loved this movie. :))

Anchorman 1 was okay, but I don’t think the world really needs a part 2.

The Buddy the Elf (or was it just called “Elf”?) movie was okay – it had a few funny scenes.

Ohhhhh…..You all can just go to your homes on whore island!

I loved this movie. :))

tencole on May 21, 2012 at 7:13 PM

That was a funny line.

I enjoyed all the jokes about his hair, and when Christina Applegate’s character crushed his ego in a fight when she told him his hair looked awful.

terryannonline on May 21, 2012 at 7:46 PM

The Hangover gets my vote for funniest movie of the past decade. However, because they refused to bring back Heather Graham for the sequel, I didn’t even bother to go see it. I haven’t even rented it.

The same is true for Anchorman II. If Christina Applegate isn’t in it, I won’t bother.

Reggie1971 on May 21, 2012 at 7:58 PM

Paul-Cincy

Can’t think of a single thing Will Ferrell ever did that I liked.

Actually the first Anchorman is the ONLY thing Ferrell ever did that I liked. I’m guessing that Anchorman 2 won’t be nearly as good.

Warner Todd Huston on May 21, 2012 at 8:02 PM

Christina Applegate and Baxter – no ifs, ands, or buts.

Philly on May 21, 2012 at 8:19 PM

ok, and Fred Willard and Jack Black.

Philly on May 21, 2012 at 8:23 PM

Meh. I thought the best part of the trailer was the voice over narration by Bill Kurtis.

jix on May 21, 2012 at 8:40 PM

There has been only one ‘Anchorman’ for me. One name: ‘Ted Baxter’. Now he was an ‘Anchorman’.

Little Nell on May 21, 2012 at 8:47 PM

2013 huh? Let’s pray that the Mayans were right.

The funniest thing about Anchorman 1 was that among the bonus items on the DVD were the ad-libs of different scenes and the ones that didn’t make it into the film were funnier than the ones that did.

Left Coast Right Mind on May 21, 2012 at 8:51 PM

Last time I like Ferrell was in Old School.. then he got political and it was all downhill from there.

melle1228 on May 21, 2012 at 9:16 PM

Oof.

I loved Anchorman. Highly quotable and very funny all around, but that teaser was a bomb. Caddyshack 2 anyone?

Dash on May 21, 2012 at 9:36 PM

Fist pump… can’t wait :)

Chicost84 on May 21, 2012 at 10:31 PM

The only thing I find funny about this guy is that anyone else finds him funny.

Everything I’ve seen him in seems like a bad Saturday Night Live skit that goes on for two hours.

NoDonkey on May 21, 2012 at 10:50 PM

How about the way he will read an.y.thin’ off the Teleprompter.
Who does that make you think of?

tj4osu on May 21, 2012 at 11:28 PM

No….the stink will be strong on this one I believe.

portlandon on May 21, 2012 at 7:12 PM

Agreed.

Sherman1864 on May 22, 2012 at 4:33 AM

This trailer made you chuckle, Allah? Why?

1. Every character seems to be “off”; it is as if they are all embarrassed to be there, and just doing it for the money.

2. Why is he drinking coffee instead of his traditional Scotch? The PC police? Ugh.

3. Ferrell seems to be uncomfortable in his skin playing the roll, at least here. It is as if he is playing a guy playing his character, or a bad immitation done as a high school skit.

4. Where is the female lead? Or did they conveniently leave her out so he can have a new relationship? Time will tell.

5. They don’t look like they are having fun doing this. What made the original film funny was they were indeed having fun, much like what made Star Trek’s “The trouble with tribbles” actually work.

6. Have they jettisoned the over-the-top campiness? If so, it will be our loss.

Anchorman one of your top favorites? I always thought you were kind of smart, but now? That was just another piece of garbage put out by hollywood, and somebody should just flush the toilet to get rid of, oh whats his name, the star. I can’t stand stupid.
