Obligatory: North Carolina teacher tells student not to criticize Obama

posted at 4:41 pm on May 21, 2012 by Allahpundit

We missed this yesterday as it went viral, but maybe that’s for the best since now I can bring you the exciting conclusion: She’s been suspended (with pay).

An employee at the Rowan-Salisbury School System said they have been flooded with calls from around the country on Monday…

The district released a statement on Monday.

“The Rowan-Salisbury School System expects all students and employees to be respectful in the school environment and for all teachers to maintain their professionalism in the classroom. This incident should serve as an education for all teachers to stop and reflect on their interaction with students. Due to personnel and student confidentiality, we cannot discuss the matter publicly.”

I’m 99 percent convinced that she’s a liberal who was forced to fall back on the inane “presidents can’t be criticized” argument to seem “even-handed” while imposing a gag order on O’s behalf, but one percent of me is holding out for the possibility that she really might believe it. Actual quote from the clip: “As a social studies teacher I cannot allow you to slander any president in here, past or present. If that’s the case, somebody could say negative things about the Tea Party.” …Yeah. Imagine if people started saying negative things about the tea party.

Maybe she just meant that she wanted to keep the classroom more or less free from political contention? I.e. no bashing Bush, no bashing Obama, no bashing the tea party, etc. Although in that case, what’s with her claiming that people were arrested for criticizing Bush? Are we dealing with a lefty hack here or, more terrifying, a social studies teacher whose grasp on the First Amendment is a lot less tight than her students’? Two clips for you, one the abridged version with highlights from Fox News and the other the director’s cut.

The Rowan-Salisbury School System expects all students and employees to be respectful in the school environment and for all teachers to maintain their professionalism in the classroom.

This expectation is incompatible with hiring union members.

I was rather pleased to learn that the students who are victims of this horrible “teacher” were still well-informed enough to know that Obama admitted bullying “Coretta”, that Bush was mercilessly, criticized and that (despite rumors to the contrary) O is not actually God.

Maybe she just meant that she wanted to keep the classroom more or less free from political contention? I.e. no bashing Bush, no bashing Obama, no bashing the tea party, etc.

I believe the whole thing started when the teacher herself started critizing Romney for bullying.

Allah, forget about your 1% doubt.

WisRich on May 21, 2012 at 4:50 PM

Allah, I think you missed the most important part of the whole exchange. The teacher starting talking about how Romney bullied a kid in HS. The student challenged the teacher on her attack on Romney by pointing out that Obama’s own book said that he shoved a girl in grade school. When the teacher didn’t believe the student about the truth, she said she wouldn’t allow the president to be slandered during this “debate”.

blammm on May 21, 2012 at 4:50 PM

“As a social studies teacher I cannot allow you to slander any president in here, past or present. If that’s the case, somebody could say negative things about the Tea Party.”

That’s strange, when one of the students called Bush “shitty” on the video, she didn’t reprimand that student.

ButterflyDragon on May 21, 2012 at 4:51 PM

, a social studies teacher whose grasp on the First Amendment is a lot less tight than her students’?

I’m going with this one. My kid has had 3 real dumb social studies teachers…

exliberal on May 21, 2012 at 4:51 PM

I have no trouble believing that:

1) she doesn’t understand the constitution; and

2) she is a far-left bozo who wants to indoctrinate the students.

Let’s face it, most leftists have little to no understanding of the constitution (their understanding is limited to believing it is alive and should change with the whims of a majority). That doesn’t mean that she can’t also be a far-left radical who wants to proselytize to her students.

Monkeytoe on May 21, 2012 at 4:52 PM

Man, I love how those students are just fuc*in’ with that teacher, because she’s dumb and she deserves it. I read somewhere else yesterday that the kid on the tape had a friend record it so he could show his parents that he has not been exaggerating all year — his teacher really is that dumb, and she really does do nothing in the classroom except spew anti-intellectual leftist rants. This seems to be a case of a few students deciding that if their public school district is going to force them to sit in a classroom with an ignorant buffoon for a teacher, they’re going to give her the respect that hiring decision deserves.

Rational Thought on May 21, 2012 at 4:53 PM

Except when it falls in line with their agenda.

But I must confess there is nothing funnier than a Leftist getting all indignant when you use a term like President Downgrade or The dear Liar.

Then you remind them of why he has those nicknames and that they did far worse to President Bush.

At that point in the discussion their anger is palpable.

Although in that case, what’s with her claiming that people were arrested for criticizing Bush?

Death of a President 2006 Movie

Years after the assassination of President George W. Bush in Chicago, an investigative documentary examines that as-yet-unsolved crime.

They made a movie about a sitting President being assassinated. So no – no one got arrested for criticizing Bush. This person doesn’t belong in a class room teaching social studies to students.

“Teaching as a Subversive Activity”: The Theory of Political Indoctrination

April 12, 2012 – 6:13 am – by Zombie

Last weekend I visited the U.C. Berkeley campus and on a whim attended a lecture with the provocative title “Teaching as a Subversive Activity — Revisited.”

Because this was a presentation aimed at education insiders only, the lecturer, retired professor H. Douglas Brown from S.F. State, seemed perfectly willing to let the cat out of the bag about political indoctrination on college campuses. Fortunately, I had my trusty camera with me, so I was able not only to snap a few pictures but also record several key portions of his speech, which I found so eye-opening that I felt the general public deserved to hear it as well.

Seriously, aside from the blatant bias and the factual inaccuracies in her statements, she also demonstrated an appalling inability to reason logically.

Instead of giving her a paid vacation, the school district should require her to complete (and pass) a remedial class in logic, the First Amendment, and classroom etiquette. Also, since she was unaware of Obama’s admitted history of school bullying, the district should also require her to read (and pass a quiz on the contents of) both Dreams from My Father and The Audacity of Hope.

What kind of high school class allows such statements as “people used to talk s*** about Bush all the time”? Am I so old as to not know that s*** and f*** are not longer offensive?

IMHO, the teacher is simply rationalizing. Criticism of Obama offends her, so she casts about in her mind for a reason to not allow any such criticism. So she thinks … ah … he’s the President, you better not criticize the President. “Not in my classroom”. Then when the student brings up a counterexample, that Bush was criticized all the time, her argument goes beyond the bounds of logic, and she says oh no, Bush wasn’t criticized in such a way, because such you could be arrested for such criticism. Again, trying to rationalize her desire to not hear any criticism of Obama. With absurd justifications for it. Pure rationalization, that’s all it is.

Teaching is hard. I don’t think she’s very smart.

An employee at the Rowan-Salisbury School System said they have been flooded with calls from around the country on Monday…

Great! Too bad she’s getting paid for doing no work but somehow I don’t think that is too much different than usual. She truly is a vile woman who indoctrinates rather than teaches. The kid was asking some legitimate questions and she just became a shrill shrew and more and more incoherent when she couldn’t get around the points being made by one of her students.

I hope everybody takes the time to listen to this woman. She may have a teaching degree but her words point toward somebody who is more ignorant than her students. But most importantly, “teachers” who end up screaming at their students for dis-respecting Obama (while trashing Romney) are unfit to be in any classroom. She’s supposed to be the adult and the kid that was taunting her (and he was) was far more intelligent than this idiot that claimed people were put in jail for slandering GWB and making the claim that Romney could be attacked because he only aspired to be President.

Seriously, the left has completely lost it.

Give that kid a LOT of credit. That took a lot of guts to disagree with a teacher

There’s no way I could have done that at his age. I’d have a lot of trouble doing it now. Typing is one thing, standing up in the moment in such a situation, and thinking on your feet, much harder to do.

I was playing a hashtag game on Twitter where people were coming up with suggestions for Obama’s “Indian name” and so I thought I might want to check out some of the real names in the 1835 census of Cherokees. Some of the names might surprise you, particularly those beginning with the letter D.

You will find Benge under the B list.

Some of the Benges changed their name to “Bunch”.

There is a rule among the Bunch’s Never Say Benge.

It would probably take an act of Congress to fire her…she will be paid sitting at home until this all blows over.

Obama is the worst president in the history of the United States and I pray to God daily that he loses this election in such a landslide that he is never taken seriously as a leader ever again.

There. ARREST ME.

Anyone who doesn’t understand first and foremost that the REAL purpose of the First Amendment is to PROHIBIT government interference in POLITICAL SPEECH (such as saying our president sucks rotten eggs) has no business teaching a hooker how to unseal the condom much less schoolkids.

^^This^^

C’mon Allah, I know you try to be “fair and balanced” and all that, but that so-called teacher’s comment about people being arrested for saying bad things about Bush was parroted daily on KOS and DU during the Bush presidency. It sounds like this lady was fully indoctrinated with the evil Bush and his even more evil VP conspiracy theory.
