Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:01 am on May 21, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

As a general in the War on Women, Barack Obama might be best compared to one who inadvertently fires on his own positions.  Team Obama has tried to exploit the usual gender gap in national elections by claiming to fight on behalf of women.  Earlier this month the campaign rolled out the creepy “Life of Julia” campaign, and President Obama himself launched the same attacks at a recent commencement speech at all-female Barnard College.  How effective has Obama been at this war?  Former CNN and NBC anchor Campbell Brown wants Obama to surrender immediately, as she writes in yesterday’s New York Times:

WHEN I listen to President Obama speak to and about women, he sometimes sounds too paternalistic for my taste. In numerous appearances over the years — most recently at the Barnard graduation — he has made reference to how women are smarter than men. It’s all so tired, the kind of fake praise showered upon those one views as easy to impress. As I listen, I am always bracing for the old go-to cliché: “Behind every great man is a great woman.”

Some women are smarter than men and some aren’t. But to suggest to women that they deserve dominance instead of equality is at best a cheap applause line.

Brown who supports Obama’s position on abortion, scoffs at the idea that contraception is a driving issue in the 2012 elections:

The struggling women in my life all laughed when I asked them if contraception or abortion rights would be a major factor in their decision about this election. For them, and for most other women, the economy overwhelms everything else.

As for “Julia,” well, let’s just say that Brown sees government dominance as a bad trade for male dominance:

The women I know who are struggling in this economy couldn’t be further from the fictional character of Julia, presented in Mr. Obama’s Web ad, “The Life of Julia,” a silly and embarrassing caricature based on the assumption that women look to government at every meaningful phase of their lives for help.

Brown’s husband is doing some consulting work for Romney, but Brown says she remains independent in this race.  She does, however, have some advice for Obama.  If the President wants to win womens’ votes, maybe he should quit treating them like dependent idiots:

I have always admired President Obama and I agree with him on some issues, like abortion rights. But the promise of his campaign four years ago has given way to something else — a failure to connect with tens of millions of Americans, many of them women, who feel economic opportunity is gone and are losing hope. In an effort to win them back, Mr. Obama is trying too hard. He’s employing a tone that can come across as grating and even condescending. He really ought to drop it. Most women don’t want to be patted on the head or treated as wards of the state.

I wrote about the Left’s inability to connect in my column last week for The Fiscal Times.  Looks like we’re achieving consensus.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Listen Campbell, if we wanted you to have an opinion, we would’ve issued you one when we issued you your abortion rights, your web design loan, and your bachelor’s degree. Your job is to shut the heck up and report the news as we have edited:

Here’s today’s hard copy–

I can imagine the Democrats starting to panic. What Obama and company call a campaign tactic, is actually a divide and conquer stratety and, when that doesn’t work, you lost the votes you were trying to gain and aren’t likely to get them back.

In 2008, the man who wasn’t vetted and didn’t have a record, could look above the fray and not get into this stuff. The campaign didn’t go after Sarah Palin, their surrogates in the press did. The campaign didn’t put out stories about John McCain and affairs, their surrogates in the press did. Now, they have to do more of their own dirty work and the press is left to condone it and cover for it, which they’ll gladly do.

Ultimately, it’s going to come down to, not only are you better off than you were 4 years ago but, also, “Where’s the beef?” and policy is where this administration has serious problems.

Julia needs the government but never needed a man other than the one time for conception of the child who essentially became a ward of the state. This isn’t a war on women, this is a war on self-dependence.

PappyD61 on May 21, 2012 at 8:35 AM

The Democrats already have forced Corey Booker to walk back his Sunday heresy against Obama. My guess is one of the network morning shows, CNN or MSNBC will likely give Brown some airtime in the next day or so to walk back her’s, or face the future job employment consequences (i.e. — Campbell’s TV future would then be solely up to Roger Ailes whims…)

jon1979 on May 21, 2012 at 8:38 AM

Someone was keeping up with Obama’s bio at the literary agent’s site over the course of nearly a decade, updating and editing it. Whoever that was, left Obama’s birthplace as Kenya until 3 weeks after he announced his campaign for President.

I suspect Obama deliberately lied to help sell his book. But the fact that he cannot and will not produce his birth certificate from Hawaii makes that simple explanation problematic. If Obama was not born in Hawaii, then he is not a natural born citizen and is not eligible to be President. If he has deliberately lied to conceal that fact, he is guilty of a grave crime against this nation; felony fraud, perhaps treason. This lie at the literary agent’s website on Obama’s bio raises serious questions about Obama’s character, and about his history. Someone must answer for the discrepancies–which are glaring since the bio was updated regularly all around the birthplace of Kenya, but leaving that statement.

People who keep trying to dismiss it as “birtherism,” are ignoring a real problem–and these questions won’t go away. The truth will out. It’s just not possible that it was a minor “clerical error.”

Wayback Feature Unravels the Obama Bio Lie
Clarice Feldman

Doug Ross of Director Blue used the wayback feature to investigate Obama’s literary agency’s website and it shows that there were a number of revisions to the literary agent-distributed Obama biography that said he was born in Kenya; these revisions reflected changes in Obama’s life. But it wasn’t until 2007 when he threw his hat in the ring for the presidency that the bio was changed to state he was born in Hawaii.

annoyinglittletwerp on May 21, 2012 at 8:49 AM

It is agreed that the economy is first and formost the one uniting concern. It should be the primary interest of the voters and it will be regardless what anyone does or says.

Over in obama’s camp they agree and are doing the best they can to create their little sparkles of the week to distrack people and hammer their little hollow sound bites.

However one of their greatest fears is exposing evidence and discusssion that Obama is not who he claims he is. If that were not so then there would not be threats made to the news media of swift retaliagion for any or anyone that mentions anything about his Certification of Live Birth, that it is a lack of any evidence that he was born in Hawaii or anywhere else beyound a clear and easliy proven forged certification, that his Social Security card is a problem that not only should not exist, actually does not exist, the Selective Service card that is being shown to be in question if not a fraud, the evidence that he went to college as a foriegn student and so on. These things matter and if they were exposed, they alone would end his presidency and everything it has stood for and fostered off on the American people.

It is important Because it violated our Constitution at the very base of its existence and as such should his presidentcy should not stand and Obama should endure the consequentcies.

It was not like no one knew this before he was elected or even afterwards. It was at best an open secret that the American people were being told is not true, and just to ignore it, and that remains true to today. This did not happen because a few democrats or even socialist managed to pull off the deception. There are powerful people involved here. Who had the power to destroy his mother’s passport records that would have shown if his mother was are was not in the United States at the time of his birth, and the backup records in the national archive on microfilm for just the week of his alledged birth? These two sources of information would have ended any question of birth, even if there were no birth certification. Obviously those documents proved otherwise. Where did he get his Social Security card from and has anyone checked to see which card he was using when he supposely worked as a financial advisor or editor? Far too many unanswered questions, but clearly ones that someone does not want answered, especially now. I wonder if times if Obama is living the fabricated life of someone in a witness protection progam.

Of course if it were proven that Obama did not qualify for the office, it would have reprecusissions that no one in Congress wants to face; the undoing of everything he has done since he proclaimed, “I Won!”. Proving his deception seems to be the last thing those with the power to make it happen, will allow to happen, and talking about it is not something they want to continue.
