Bold new critic of Obama’s class-warfare nonsense: People are calling me a Nazi for thinking I already pay my fair share of taxes

posted at 6:05 pm on May 16, 2012 by Allahpundit

Cheer up, Jon. If they weren’t calling you a Nazi for that, they’d be calling you a Nazi for appearing on Fox.

After multiple Lovitz posts, the first half of this segment will be familiar to you, but at least watch the second half for when Kelly plays devil’s advocate by giving him the Elizabeth Warren “we’re all in this together” pitch for tax hikes. Even now, after watching three or four interviews with him on this subject, I’m not clear on whether his big problem with O is wanting to raise taxes on the rich or simply the rhetoric used to justify raising taxes on the rich. Lovitz is, I believe, a longtime liberal; did he have some major problem with Bill Clinton’s 39.6 percent top bracket? Kind of an important topic since we’re seven and a half months from reverting to those rates unless President Serious gets something done with Boehner beforehand.

Exit question: Has Lovitz considered reducing his tax burden by leaving Athens on the Pacific?

I think the big difference is that now he is a business owner instead of just an actor. I think his whole way of thinking is probably changing, and while he still thinks he is a democrat he probably wont for much longer.

Ed isn’t that where Jon Lovitz’s has his business a comedy club?

I guess he could move his business to Florida it’s a right to work state with no federal income tax. It’s something to think about. Isn’t that where Rush Limbaugh moved to after Taxes skyrocketed in New York?

Do we still have to reiterate what that acronym means:

Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei = National Socialist German Workers Party

The operative word in there is Socialist.

How does putting the word National in front of that word change the meaning of the word Socialist?

Best explained in this Bill Whittle video:

I’ve seen at least two interviews given by Lovitz on the subject. My impression is that while he thinks he already is paying a fair share of taxes, he would not object to an increase in taxes. What’s really ticking him off, I believe, is the rhetoric.

I think what is unsaid by, but on the mind of, Lovitz is this, IF YOU CAN JUSTIFY RAISING TAXES WITH THIS DISHONEST RHETORIC, WHAT WILL YOU FOIST ON US NEXT?????

The new meme is to say something like, “Well, back then, they were actually more like the conservatives of today, are like. Therefore, the Nazi’s were conservatives.”

This is the bullshite I hear from my progressive BIL, on a daily basis. Just as Obama has inserted himself into the history of former President’s, socialists are trying to insert themselves into history as the saviors of mankind.

SWLiP on May 16, 2012 at 6:14 PM

Yep. That’s what happens. Liberalism is like a sweater with a thread hanging. You start pulling on that thread, Lovitz with his tax issue, and for me it was the UN’s “special” treatment of Israel (constant condmenation) and the whole thing comes apart. Then, because you’ve had the unmitigated temerity to question a pillar of liberal orthodoxy, you get attacked. Then, since you know the attacks that you’re getting are bogus, it occurs to you that maybe some of the attacks that you’ve heard (and made) on conservatives are similarly bogus. So, just to check, you decide to actually read something by a conservative (which practically no liberal has ever done) and you find yourself nodding kind of often. Then for a while you’re “independent”, but you’re really noticing how dishonest and insulting your liberal friends are when they discuss things with you. You make a conservative friend, who isn’t dishonest or insulting, and mostly just seems better informed, and before you know it–you’re listening to Rush and reading Red State and Hotair. It’ll be interesting to see how far Lovitz takes it.

Will Smith had a similar (though far more muted) response on French TV when told that their top tax rate was going to 75%.

In his own inimitable way, Lovitz gets it. He does pay his fair share, as do most very wealthy people (other than those who dodge income tax pretty much entirely, such as Jobs and Zuckerberg). And it certainly does seem that as a rule, the dodgers are Democrats.

UnrepentantCurmudgeon on May 17, 2012 at 11:20 AM

Plantation slaves is the lot of life in Hollywood… tow the line or you won’t get the part (PERIOD)

Useful tools and hypocrites… you can be free only if you break the chains that bind you. Jon’s comment… “You have to be true to yourself” only works once you become so wealthy that your existence requires no additional outside influx of hard cold cash or paid management.

TAX MORE….TAX MORE….TAX MORE…… Let us not be fooled again… We are paying enough, it is in fact our over bloated corrupt unaccountable politicians and the non-producers and non working entitlement thieves that have created this circle jerk. It is the working class private sector that is currently bearing the weight of the world on their shoulders while the waste fraud and crony capitalism that is keeping ALL these 1%er clods fat, dumb, happy and rich!

Heftyjo on May 17, 2012 at 12:10 PM

I think that he thinks of himself not as a democrat, but as a liberal.

The problem is, with this gov’t-endorsed two-party system, he ends up having to go with the democrats whether he likes them or not.

If he was able to break himself away from the whole Dems-vs-Reps groupthink that short circuits people’s ability to seriously look at politics with a larger worldview, it wouldn’t suprise me if he found himself to be more Libertarian than Democrat.

Smoovious on May 17, 2012 at 1:14 PM

Every election cycle we hear that conservatism is on inevitable decline, dying a death of demographics. “The youth are so much more liberal than their parents. In twenty years, all the old folks will die off and there will be no more conservatism.” And yet, there always seem to be more conservatism. What gives?

Life experience.

At some point, youthful angst and stupid idealism grows up. And resents Uncle Sam’s greedy hand in his back pocket.

Actually, at the city, county, state, and federal levels, the average American does pay about 50% in taxes on every dollar earned. That’s average. Dunno how it shakes out for Lovitz personally, but that’s a reasonable assertion when you consider the total tax burden from state-to-state as well as federally.
