Video: Preachers in Baltimore blast Obama for same-sex marriage stance

posted at 12:41 pm on May 14, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

And so it begins.  Yesterday, my friend Deacon Greg Kendra asked his readers whether they had heard anything in their Catholic parishes about Barack Obama’s endorsement of same-sex marriage; I didn’t in mine, but it was Mother’s Day, on which our pastor focused.  In Baltimore, at least, it was a little different — and much angrier:

Just days after President Barack Obama announced his support for same-sex marriage, pastors and priests around Maryland took to their own pulpits with their reaction– and in some cases– condemnation of the president. …

When Obama announced that his position on same-sex marriage had evolved, it outraged some African-American pastors like Pastor and Del. Emmett Burns.

“He has said to his base, African-Americans, ‘I am going against your beliefs and your thoughts,’” Burns said.

He’s so opposed to same-sex marriage, he told church members he will no longer support the president and now predicts Obama will lose the election because of it.

This will be a disaster in places like Maryland. No one expects the congregants of Pastor Burns’ church to run out and vote for Romney, but they’re going to be a lot less enthused about Obama — and a lack of enthusiasm in his base will put an end to hopes of a second term. Maryland is a safe state for Democrats under normal conditions; it last went Republican in 1988, and Obama won it by 25 points in 2008.  However, the same reason for that large margin of victory shows the risk for Obama, which is that 30% of the vote in the state comes from the African-American community that Pastor Burns and others serve.

The White House stirred up a hornet’s nest, and the damage to their standing among people of faith will be difficult to overestimate.  With evangelicals suddenly motivated to support Mitt Romney, these pulpit blasts aimed at Obama’s base come at the worst possible time.

I’d love for one of these charlatans to explain how you can condone the lawful killing of babies in the womb but condemn lawful same sex marriages – an act of sin in which no one is killed.

Sodomy produces death, whether you’re perceptive of it or not.

Accepting sodomy as just another “normal” practice, increases the practice.

Seminal fluid doesn’t mix well with the bacteria in the colon.

I’ve said before that if the consenting adult practitioners of sodomy were to just practice it behind closed doors, and shut up about it, there really wouldn’t be any big “political firestorm” over it.
But demanding that the government give institutional recognition to same sex marriage, brings it out of the bedroom (or motel room, or back office, or parked vehicle, etc) and flaunts it in our face.

That is a situation that will not be tolerated by a MAJORITY of Americans.

My mistake someone edited that comment.

So for the religious blacks, they can sell out just like that. Their beliefs don’t mean a thing, as long as they support the liar in chief.

If Barack Obama gets his way and same-sex marriage becomes the law of the land, I wonder how some of those pro-Obama preachers will feel when the Government forces ALL churches to perform those marriages….or else be threatened with fines/legal action. So much for the wall of separation between church and state…and so much for America! Democrats obviously want government to be bigger than God in our lives. So very sad.

Romney would be really smart to pick Allen West for VP. He’s a proven leader and true conservative with a great family history of service.

He would also make Dem head spin around like the Exorcist.

President Obama Ends Abortion!

These church positions can make you nuts. I called a diocese today and offered that President Obama had found a way to end abortion.

We all have gay marriages and practice sodomy.

They hung up!

Preachers, ay? Have we heard from the Imams yet?

You ARE aware that many heterosexual couples practice sodomy as well, right?

And no one’s going to proclaim loudly in the public square “HEY! This is how WE get off! Here’s every gory detail about the act!” because once the government recognizes same-sex marriage they have to. We already have laws against lewd conduct and obscene behavior in public… which would apply to hetero couples flaunting what they do in bed as well.

TMOverbeck on May 15, 2012 at 7:20 AM

And by the way, I find sodomy disgusting. I have a gag reflex for most things fecal. I can’t imagine getting ANY part of the body (besides the one obvious exception) involved in that. However, that’s where my revulsion stops. If gay couples want to do that in the privacy of their bedroom, fine with me. (In fact, I remember hearing on the radio somewhere that many gay men don’t even go there, that they prefer to use other means to, um, arrive at the climax.) If we just disregarded the stereotypes that our ancestors perpetuated about the homosexual crowd, we just might be surprised at how mature and civil the vast majority of them are.

TMOverbeck on May 15, 2012 at 7:30 AM

Whoa… this is way too general. Tell me where to go or who to contact and I’ll drive up from St. Mary’s to anywhere in the state to sign this petition. I want my name on it today!

JSGreg3 on May 14, 2012 at 4:48 PM

Sorry I’m a day late, but I was diverted by the book I heard about briefly on Hannity’s radio show. It’s by Edward Klein, apparently an ex-editor of New York Times magazine? This book is a nice look behind the mask Obama and his wife and friends wear. I think I’ll be buying it because just getting the scoop on Oprah and Michelle is giggle-producing reading.

Anyway, you don’t have to drive anywhere. You can go to: MDpetitions.com

And you could volunteer to gather signatures. I’ve a feeling that there are going to be a lot more after O’Malley and Miller and their fellow thieves finish with the “special session” which is designed to force anyone earning more than $100,000 a year to go bankrupt. IF that doesn’t work, O’Malley has a plan to force counties to increase real estate taxes so they can make sure you turn over your property to the state so illegal aliens and OWS folks can move in.

Those of you who think it’s the Warren Buttfets the Dem want destroyed had best recheck the snarky details and begin to contemplate how close you are to being labeled “rich”. It didn’t take long to go from “billionaire” to $250,000 a year for two people, and now we’re down to $100,000. $50,000 is just around the corner.

Yes.

But they aren’t trying to “actively lobby” for societal acceptance of it.
