Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:01 am on May 14, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

We had so many good candidates for OOTDs last week, we really didn’t have time to get to the classic entry that Barack Obama created all on his own on Thursday:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tI888wtoTzo&feature=player_embedded

Obviously, the first level of Obamateurism in this clip is giving Republicans a sound bite that will fit neatly into both TV spots and their constant criticism of Obamanomics and his lack of attention to jobs and the economy. It’s practically custom-made for the RNC and Team Romney.  In fact, it’s difficult to think of a scripted quote that the GOP would have inserted into Obama’s Teleprompter that would have been more damaging on this point.  Every time Team Obama starts to use distractions like Seamus the Roof-Ridin’ Dog, all Romney has to do is say, “Looks like Obama’s forgetting how deep the stagnation is this week again!”

But it goes even further than that.  Obama has been saying all along that he’s not to blame for the current state of the economy — that he inherited a much worse mess than people understood at the time, and it’s been a constant struggle to keep the US economy limping along even at this pace.  If that were really true, would Obama ever forget how bad the Great Recession actually got?  If it’s that forgettable, then maybe Obama should have had things fixed up by now … and if he couldn’t, why give him another four years to keep screwing it up?

Finally, Obama wants to cast Romney as an out-of-touch One Percenter.  But it’s Romney who’s talking about the economy, while Obama’s talking about gay marriage and a long-dead terrorist, while telling us that he sometimes can’t remember the economic pain millions of voters are still feeling to this day.  Who exactly is out of touch again?

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Together we fought back? I don’t recall Obama ever being on the same side as Americans who do not bundle for his fundraising. Solyndra, the UAW, public sector unions- got literlly trillions. The unemployed, the family struggling to make ends meet, the parent concerned about saddling their kids with massive debt….. Obama worked against these people for the last three years.

I wonder if Romney and the RNC have the stones to use all the gifts Ø has given them to pulverize Ø’s campaign into dog food? Lets see!

In the meantime 230K have expended their 99 weeks of unemployment over the weekend. 1275 American military members (69% of the total)have lost their lives in the 3.5 years Obama has been in office. The national debt increased under Obama more than all other Presidents combined.

But by all means things like the economy, jobs, and the troops and combat are beneath Obama who spent last week worrying about making sodomites feel better about themselves. We learned as an aside that the troops fight on Obama’s behalf. And, of course, mourned with the President’s family that they will not be going on the ususal Summer vacations to Martha’s Vineyard and Hawaii this year because of those extremist Republicans or something.

What you call above the fray, I call totally disconnected from reality.

Happy Nomad on May 14, 2012 at 8:19 AM

Well it’s been obvious that BO has a bad memory, otherwise why are all the grand election promises from 2008 still unfulfilled?

This guy has always had a bad case of verbal diarrhea and has literally said anything and everything that he thought would please his audience of the moment or help him redirect blame (no matter how shamelessly).

I really don’t care the reason, Obama has to go. And it doesn’t necessarily have to be Chicago! There are 56 other states out there.

Nah, the quivering lip and teary eye requires the ability to exhibit humility, even if it’s faked humility. Obama is incapable of doing that, his arrogance drives him and everything he does.

Trafalgar on May 14, 2012 at 8:30 AM

So…while Obama was campaigning…millions lost their jobs….
Which, I might add, hasn’t stopped…..
lost jobs and the campaigning…

Electrongod on May 14, 2012 at 8:33 AM

It’s not funny anymore. I wonder how many people are not going to be able to hold on long enough to get this a$$hole out of office and make the changes needed to get things moving again.

Night Owl on May 14, 2012 at 8:34 AM

“But, but Romney’s rich!”

Obama’s rich.
And rather than use his riches, for 3.5 yrs he’s been using taxpayer money for his “unprecedented” number of travel vacations.

Yes, we’ve suffered enough in Illinois. I think Hawaii deserves him full time. (Sorry, Kini.)

Fallon on May 14, 2012 at 8:42 AM

Obama’s brain is foggy. He has no eye for details, can’t remember numbers (57 states), cannot remember the names of people raising money for him (Mr & Mrs Waffles), can’t remember places(Maldives, Hawaii in Asia), can’t remember his faith (“my Muslim faith”), can’t remember his daughter’s age, can’t remember his wife’s name (“Michael and I”) and I can go on and on. . .
His campaign reminds me of Kerry’s and Doles’s, short on substance but with a lots of fluff.

Sticky Wicket on May 14, 2012 at 8:45 AM

At least our first black POTUS could say he “felt our pain ” and be given credit for that. This mulatto POTUS doesn’t even remember our pain.

Has it not been clear from jump street that ChicagØbama, the queen of distraction (all that make-up, hair dye, and sucking up to deviants and the stupid), has always planned to run on his alleged “charisma”. Well, if said “charisma”, aka “Chamberlain Charm”, exists, it is within the warped minds of intellectual laggards and the unfortunate “dull-normal”. They too are all about form over substance.
It’s too bad that the GOP has yet again foisted upon us a seriously flawed candidate.

If it’s that forgettable, then maybe Obama should have had things fixed up by now …

Of course it’s easy for him to forget about the struggles of the average American family when he has access to a couple of 747s, countless fully armored limos, an army of security agents, free Kobe beef and arugula every day, as much vacation time as he wants, and the adoring press covering his azz.

He has such a rough life.

Forget the $6 trillion in new debt.
Forget the 500,000 people that left the work force last month.
Forget the 320,000 WOMEN that left the workforce last month.
Forget that the National Socialist Democrat Party senate has not passed a budget in four years.
Forget that April was the deadliest month in Afghanistan in the war’s history.
Forget the record number of Americans in poverty.
Forget the record loss of household wealth.
Forget the record number of Americans and illegals on Food Stamps.
Forget that the bill for 0bama HellCare has doubled to almost TWO TRILLION DOLLARS.

All is well, 0bama has personally, in his heart, decided that gay marriage is a state’s right issue.

Romney got the most votes in the Republican primaries. If the GOP didn’t have primaries, you would have a point. Given that they have primaries, we have only the voters to blame. Johnson got no traction. At this point the only goal of Johnson’s run would appear to be aiding in Obama’s re-election. I think it is likely that a detailed examination of Johnson’s financing would support that conclusion.

GarandFan on May 14, 2012 at 10:19 AM

I for one hope that he equates himself with Nixon as he did with FDR and Lincoln and gives a speech that begins with “Well you won’t have Obama to kick around anymore”. I really look forward to that day.

Oldnuke on May 14, 2012 at 10:29 AM

when you have a job a constant paycheck and your wife and daughters are taking luxury vacations while you flit around raising millions for your campaign and you hang out with Hollywood, it is very difficult to remember that the majority of “others” are suffering.

Besides, sometimes your mind won’t let you remember the deepest disasters in you life.

The TOTUS download to his transparently empty cerebral region on most days is iffy at best.

My memory is failing as well. My recollection that Zero was focusing like a laser on that three letter word “jobs”, and wouldn’t rest until everyone wanting a job had one, must be mistaken.

Which is, of course, why his administration refuses to defend DOMA.

I don’t know about that last hypothesis one way or the other. But it’s very simple: Romney was not my choice. He didn’t even make my top 5. But he’s the GOP nominee, and only the GOP nominee has a shot at taking Obama down. So, we rally behind him and don’t fall for distractions. And BTW, this is absolutely the very last time I take this POV.

Looks like he ducked when he should have been pivoting again. Or, maybe “God love ya” Joe Biden has had more of a detrimental effect on Barack than Barry anticipated.
