Jeremiah Wright claims Obama ally offered $150,000 bribe in 2008 to shut up

posted at 10:31 am on May 13, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Hey, guess who’s back?  In his new book on Barack Obama titled The Amateur, Edward Klein caught up with Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s minister and friend for 20 years and pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.  The Hillary Clinton campaign nearly derailed Obama’s nomination by digging up Wright’s incendiary and controversial sermons at TUCC, including exhortations like, “God damn America!” and saying that 9/11 was nothing more than America’s chickens coming home to roost — among many other statements.  Obama later proclaimed ignorance of Wright’s rants despite his long association with TUCC, and eventually renounced Wright and TUCC entirely when Wright wouldn’t keep his mouth shut.

In his on-the-record interview with Klein, Wright claims that an Obama ally offered him $150,000 to keep his mouth shut and stop preaching until after the election, in excerpts published by the New York Post today:

‘Man, the media ate me alive,” Wright told me when we met in his office at Chicago’s Kwame Nkrumah Academy. “After the media went ballistic on me, I received an e-mail offering me money not to preach at all until the November presidential election.”

“Who sent the e-mail?” I asked Wright.

“It was from one of Barack’s closest friends.”

“He offered you money?”

“Not directly,” Wright said. “He sent the offer to one of the members of the church, who sent it to me.”

“How much money did he offer you?”

“One hundred and fifty thousand dollars,” Wright said.

According to Wright, Obama met personally with his then-pastor to ask him to do the same, although Obama apparently didn’t offer money for his silence.  Wright’s version of the conversation makes it clear that Obama knew very well what his pastor had preached from the pulpit, and what he was likely to do once attention focused on him:

“And one of the first things Barack said was, ‘I really wish you wouldn’t do any more public speaking until after the November election.’ He knew I had some speaking engagements lined up, and he said, ‘I wish you wouldn’t speak. It’s gonna hurt the campaign if you do that.’

“And what did you say?” I asked. “I said, ‘I don’t see it that way. And anyway, how am I supposed to support my family?’ And he said, ‘Well, I wish you wouldn’t speak in public. The press is gonna eat you alive.’

“Barack said, ‘I’m sorry you don’t see it the way I do. Do you know what your problem is?’ And I said, ‘No, what’s my problem?’ And he said, ‘You have to tell the truth.’ I said, ‘That’s a good problem to have. That’s a good problem for all preachers to have. That’s why I could never be a politician.’

Sounds as though Obama knew full well what the “truth” was going to be once Wright started talking to the media, at least according to Wright’s version of events.  Wright doesn’t have much to lose by telling the story now, but it should be noted in fairness that he might have a lot to gain.  If the media takes more interest in Wright this time around, he’s going to be a pretty hot property for the next five months.

I’d expect the White House to begin decrying distractions in the election campaign coverage in 5 … 4… 3 … 2 …

Update: In retrospect, the Obama friend should be glad that Wright turned down his offer.  It sounds a lot like the kind of thing that got John Edwards into trouble.

Obama later proclaimed ignorance of Wright’s rants despite his long association with TUCC, and eventually renounced Wright and TUCC entirely when Wright wouldn’t keep his mouth shut.

The same press that demands that Mitt come clean and be held accountable for a prank that happened 47 years ago can sit there with a straight face and accept the fact that Obama wasn’t aware of Wright’s views. And this wasn’t almost 50 years ago. He was a member of the church until 2008. What a joke.

He attended Wright’s church for over 20 years and when Obama attended the sermons were all about Jesus and family and butterflies and rainbows. But, remarkably, on the days Obama wasn’t in attendance Reverend Wright would go off the deep end with racist, anti-American and anti-semitic rants. Right.

I’m starting to think I’ll have to read this book.

Does anyone seriously think Obama wasn’t sitting in the audience clapping and cheering while “reverend” Wright was cavorting on the stage and screaming “GOD DAMN America”? How gullible do you have to be to even give the guy the benefit of doubt? 20 fricking years. Obama was marinated in hatred for this country, and actually pulled off the biggest scam the world has ever seen.

Here is a post from an Ex-con titled “takes one to know one” It’s a pretty good read from the perspective of someone who knows how to run a con.

Huh? Hillary’s campaign? I don’t think so. It was Hannity who pushed the Rev Wright sermons and forced it into the public discourse.

They only thing Shrillary’s campaign dug up was that picture of Barky in the arab garb, but they weren’t even competent enough to find out that he loved wearing sarongs all the time – as Barky defended his dress in that picture by claiming that it was just a publicity op, which people accepted because it was a normal answer – though it turned out to be, once again, a total lie.

To this day I still can’t believe that a man that sat in the pews (20 years!) of a hateful, racist, anti-Semitic church was elected president. Barack Obama should have not have even been considered to be the Dem nominee because of this fact alone.

It says a lot about our media, Dem voters, and “independents.” It’s sad that Barack Obama was not judged by the content of his character in 2008.

However, we need to know about Romney’s middle school antics, whatever they may be. I’m sure the NYT is devoting dozens of man-years to that investigation and we’ll get the sordid details in the fall.

When selecting a president the vetting begins with middle school, that is if the candidate has an R after his name and he’s trying to unseat The First Black President.

Just for you, Toots.

The story of Halliburton’s ties to the White House dates back to the 1940s, when a Texas firm called Brown & Root constructed a massive dam project near Austin. The company’s founders, Herman and George Brown, won the contract to build Mansfield Dam thanks to the efforts of Johnson, who was then a Texas congressman.

After Johnson took over the Oval Office, Brown & Root won contracts for huge construction projects for the federal government. By the mid-1960s, newspaper columnists and the Republican minority in Congress began to suggest that the company’s good luck was tied to its sizable contributions to Johnson’s political campaign.

More questions were raised when a consortium of which Brown & Root was a part won a $380 million contract to build airports, bases, hospitals and other facilities for the U.S. Navy in South Vietnam. By 1967, the General Accounting Office had faulted the “Vietnam builders” — as they were known — for massive accounting lapses and allowing thefts of materials.

Given that Obama has never in his career shown any evidence of being particularly radical when it comes to racial politics — and that no one ever seems to have come up with more video than that one sermon — I am left to conclude that either the Reverend was not nearly as consistently radical as is claimed, or that Obama was unaffected by it.

Those are oxymorons, but that’s what we do in the name of regime change.”

The controversial preacher also showed no love for Justice Thomas, as he told his audience that, though Thomas “looks like” them, he is “worshipping some other God.” He also made an intriguing comparison about the God of the Hebrew Bible and the Lord depicted in the Quran.

“The god of racists is not the God of righteousness. The god of the greedy is not the God of grace. The god of Wall Street is not the God of Main Street,” Wright proclaimed. “Those are two different gods and I ain’t talking about Allah and Yahweh. Those are the same names for the same God.”

He continued, taking a jab at Thomas and his Christian faith.

“And I’m not talking about black and white…some of ya‘ll think I’m talking about white folk,” he said. “There’s a whole lot of folk who look like you who are worshipping some other God — somebody shout Clarence Thomas. Hallelujah!”

Now we know that Martin was a time-traveler from 2036, and was actually basing his character on the history of an ex-president.

Battlecruiser-operational on May 13, 2012 at 11:11 AM

..B.O. (or MO) canxed this year’s escapade to MV:

Last August was the third straight year the First Family vacationed on Martha’s Vineyard at the Blue Heron Farm in West Tisbury.

Not that this is exactly shocking news, the Track reports. Because it is, of course, an election year. Which means that instead of playing 18 with deep-pocketed donors, sipping cocktails with Masters of the Universe and shooting hoops on his private court, he will be shaking hands and kissing babies in the swing states.

Also putting the kibosh on the commander-in-chief’s summer vacation is the fact that Blue Heron Farm, the 28-acre West Tisbury compound where the First Family holed up for the past two summers, has been sold.

It will be interesting to see if The Pantload does head somewhere’s for a well-deserved rest from..er..campaigning on our nickel.

I know this sounds far-fetched, but my Spidey-sense has been tingling for a loong time. Why is 0bama’s past shrouded? Why was he treated like the “golden child” and given every assistance from mysterious benefactors? Why the suspect birth certificate and selective service card?

Look at this man. Listen to his political ideas. Listen to the rhythm of his speech patterns. Subtract his eyes and nose and ears, and add his mother’s. Add that to the circles he and 0bama’s mother’s family traveled in, I think there is a reasonable chance that you are looking at 0bama’s father.

Give it a chance, and just see what you think. I am being serious and not outlandish. This is something that could be on InTrade. I’d lay $100 on it right now.

Also, listen around 6:00, when he refuses to acknowledge his father’s name.

Spidey-sense. Has been tingling for awhile.

cane_loader on May 13, 2012 at 12:50 PM

What I have never understood is the people who insist there is such a striking resemblance between Frank Marshall Davis and 0bama. I’m a pretty good genealogical detective, and especially good at picking out long-lost relatives from 100-year-old photos by studying facial features, sort of like doing Mr. Potato-Head in my mind like a police composite sketch artist.

I’m really good at it – it’s just a natural talent of mine.

I really discount the Davis theory. However, when it comes to the man I linked to above, I maintain that there is an incredibly strong resemblence, AND, I am able to add a couple of 0bama’s mother’s features to that man and get – almost exactly – 0bama’s face, in my mental map.

If I were asked to choose which man will be revealed, 50 years from now, to be 0bama’s actual father, the man I linked above is far and away the #1 candidate.

And, by the way, there is no way on God’s green earth that coal-black, pumpkinp-headed man, Barack Obama, Sr., had a child with Stanley Ann Dunham, and had him come out looking like the president.

Again, I’m speaking from my own genealogical photo talent, which is pretty good. When I look at family members at our reunions, I almost see a matrix in my head, and watch the parts swap in and out like Mr. Potato-Head.

See what y’all think.

From the article linked to by aggie 95:

When Obama walked on stage at the McCormick Center, many journalists in the audience leapt to their feet and applauded enthusiastically after being told not to do so. During a two-minute break halfway through the event, which was broadcast live on CNN, journalists ran to the stage to snap photos of Obama.

I found plenty of stuff in less than 5 minutes doing a Google search. Here’s an example:

Obama’s 2006 book and Web site outline a plan calling for essentially a government bailout of the inner cities, which he describes as “repositories for all the scars of slavery and violence of Jim Crow.” Among other things, he proposes:

Doling out federal grants “targeting ex-offenders or substance abusers”;

Subsidizing supermarket chains that relocate to the inner city;

Creating a “universal 401(k)” in which the government would tax private contributions and match public contributions made into new retirement accounts by low-income families;

Imposing “goals and timetables for minority hiring” on large corporations whose work forces are deemed too white;

Ramping up funding for the Community Development Block Grant program, Head Start and HUD public housing subsidies.

Funding Small Business Administration loans for minority; businesses who train ex-felons, including gangbangers, for the “green jobs” of the future, such as installing extra insulation in homes;

Doubling the funding for federal after-school programs such as midnight basketball;

Subsidizing job training, day care, transportation for inner-city poor, as well as doubling the funding of the federal Jobs Access and Reverse Commute program;

Expanding the eligibility of the earned income tax credit to include more poor, and indexing it to inflation;

Adopting entire inner-city neighborhoods as wards of the federal government; and

Spending billions on new inner-city employment programs, including prison-to-work programs.

Yeah, no reparations at all. Move on.org, nothing to see here.

Their bias is disgusting.
