I assume that was a sarcasm. Actually, productivity born of free market competition and efficiency gave us weekends and alot else– like prosperity.

I think you misunderstand, unions gave us actual weekends. Before unions the week was Monday to Friday and then began again at Monday.

Not my union… I am a Teamster (required union membership at work) and I work weekends (no time and a half nor double time on Sunday) and holidays (no holiday pay)…

All the Teamsters did when my union came under their umbrella was raise my union dues by 33%, and we just signed the worst contract EVER since I hired on with “the railroad”…

And I am subject to random drug testing (no issue from me), unlike welfare recipients (that I support with MY tax dollars)…

The Supreme Court ruled (via the Beck Decision)(no, not that Beck) that if you ask your union for a refund of the part of your dues that they spend on politics, they must comply.

Which is why the unions understate the amount spent on political activity.

Before a federal judge tossed out that part of Act 10 here in Wisconsin, a whole host of public unions had to choose whether to even ask their membership to recertify. A whole host of municipal unions decided to not even try, but almost all of the WEAC (teacher’s union affiliated with the NEA) locals overwhelmingly recertified.

That’s the “All of the Above” policy Obama is working on.

He enjoyed a a veto-proof majority in Congress in 2009 and yet failed to enact the unions’ top legislative priority in the Employee Free Choice Act (card check).

Technically not, though he had a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate the last half of 2009, and effectively had the same for the remainder of the 111th Congress.
